Happy Independence Day guys. Quick one: has anyone ever declared over 10k? Why do people go to great lengths to avoid it? For my DS' I literally declared like 9990 lol. But now I'm wondering: why can't I just take the full amount I want to use. So aside of safekeeping of the amount and the danger of loss, is there any other reason why people avoid declaring? What manner of questions do they ask in the declaration form and do they ever sieze funds?

Thanks guys!

I think you can declare over 10k oooh!
And I don't think they will seize your hard earned money. The highest they will do is ask you what you do for a living.
People just declare what they have...and it's noted whether below or over 10k dollars.

Thank you so much. Will ring Yolanda today. I actually tried paying at the hospital when I collected my zero balance letter and they told me to pay directly to Us anesthesia.

its very pathetic that their even trying to milk you even when you want to pay. You have to chase them for everything.

they are very disorganized. don't get worked up... they sent me that 8K + bill even after paying cheesy cheesy cheesy was so scared when I saw it, then spoke to Yolanda and she clarified it with me

Good Day Gurus in the House, Please i need your Help on this; My wife and daughter interview was this morning but she was late to the venue therefore asked to reschedule for the appointment after four days, she was also told to choose Emergency date because she have to travel December to give Birth and it seems November is almost Occupied.

Please i don't understand why in four days and Also how to go about rescheduling.

secondly; I intend booking my appointment and that of my son together next week but i don't know if i will be available for the interview this year because of the nature of my work and location. Please can i pay for and include my son in their next appointment?

Thanks and God bless

4 days to give the system time to revert the visa fee receipt so it can be used again for rescheduling.

I guess you can add your son to theirs since they are rescheduling. Fill his form , pay his fee and add him to your wife's profile b4 she books the date.

I'm still a first timer for renewal of course. And i shd know whatsup to plan well especially because of my location.
You'll be fine, zoemummy has shared a detailed checklist. I renewed a couple of months back too and was called for a follow up interview.

They just asked how much I paid at delivery and if I was going for medicals. Visa was ready the next day.

I've tried calling the number but it's says it's currently unassigned. Can I email her? Did you make your payments recently or was for previous years?

Thanks anonymousmum- I will call them again today and hopefully I'm transferred to another person and I'm able to pay with my card. Did they post your zero balance letter to you or you had to go pick it up from their office?

Receipt will be mailed to you instantly, you need to request for the zero balance which will come 2 days later

Thank you plenty, I have settled payment now but was told that they don't issue zero balance letters anymore. I'll keep chasing them.

Pls house, mamas who have travelled with Etihad, do they require fit to fly from ur doctor or port health? I am scheduled to travel with Etihad in few days time, not to US and not heavily pregnant but visibly pregnant - 2nd trimester. I dont want unnecessary delays, do you suggest i get a fit to fly from my hospital stating the info required in a medical cert as stated on their website or just wait till i want to check-in, probably they send me to port health. I have been trying their numbers to confirm but not connecting.

On that port health, please, how early do they open, because its an early morning flight? Thanks for your responses.

Why not ask your questions here so others can benefit? You wouldn't have gotten any information here if every newbie subscribed to the PM thing 100%

Yes I know that and I don't support 100% pm things.
I want to request for a detailed information on previous posts thus the pm. And the response might be perceived as an unpaid advert here.... Just trying to play by the rules.
I will definitely share more Info here as the need arises.

Hello house.

I'm grateful for the gift of this forum. I have consulted nairaland at almost every point of my adult life since 2007 - from the time I came fresh out of school, then NYSC, job, relationship, visa interview, and now birthing in the US. In the course of this journey, I have made interesting friends from here, and received countless invaluable contributions from guys here.

So here is the full account of the missionary journey of my DW.

She flew Qatar Airways at 34w4d to Atlanta in July. The journey was long. The layover was about 9 hours and Qatar pulled an unfortunately ugly card. We had arranged their complimentary hotel from Lagos (they call it STPC) and on the morning of the flight, we got the printed voucher. She got to Qatar and she was told her the airport hotel was full. They gave her a city hotel but Qatar Immigrations would not allow her in. It was later I learnt that Qatar immigrations won't allow entry to people flying for medical purposes/pregnancy.

Fast forward to Atlanta airport, no fireworks. The CBP asked her what she was there for and she told them to have her baby. Dazol! The man then told her to always carry her receipts. Not one document asked or presented.

Hospital: Emory Midtown (Dr Tates)

I'll skip the details that most of us know but I believe some other info here may help mamas contemplating Atlanta and Emory.

We paid for CS and epidural, about $6,525 and Dr Tate's $1,500. On the first appointment, he recommended a test that cost about $100 or so at another location due to the peculiarity of her pregnancy. Dr Tate said she'd need to be induced. She was induced at Emory on Saturday afternoon. All this time I was afraid of the bills that would be slammed at us as we seem to have clearly gone out of the provisions of the package by the induction - but DW's health was paramount to me. But, God, being so good, she pushed without epidural on Sunday afternoon and was discharged on Tuesday. That's about 3 days in the hospital.

Then the big bills came. About 3 weeks later, the adjusted zero balance statement came in. To cut it short, our prepaid money covered for the induction and the 4 days stay in the hospital (that was amazing). Since it was VD, we got a refund of the exact difference. Epidural refund was to come a month after the delivery. Because we paid with a USD card (GTB), refund was easy and straight. We didn't open any account in America. Emory's in-house paed, Child Healthcare of Atlanta, CHOA charged five hundred plus for 'professional' fees the first time with a discount of 40% if payment is made 30 days after receipt of the bill. About a month and half later, the same CHOA sent another bill of 283 for the '2nd physician'. DW argued and shouted and told them she cannot pay after already getting a zero balance from the same CHOA. They offered the 40% discount but DW asked for a 70% discount! They accepted and we paid. We also engaged an external paed after delivery, Kidcare,..cost $140 on first visit, and $90 for the second visit.

SSN came in by mail about a week after delivery. DW waited for me to arrive before we picked up the BC and the other documentation (that was about 1 month after delivery). We got the Nigerian passport after 3 visits to the Consulate at Roswell. $77 fee, $30 for the business centre that we paid through, and $65 for money order to expedite it. If you are in Atlanta, you can PM me to give you tips because expediting is not really an option for all. You must have proof that you are travelling in a few days time. Got the passport one week after. US passport was expedited ($165 I think, not sure now) and collected same day, in fact in 3 hours sef. Infant ticket was bought over the phone at $150 or so.

Special thanks to God and all the contributors on this forum especially cfcchick, Eilenora, reniduke. I am available to assist expectant Emory mamas. God bless you all.
