Oh no face palm not again.... I have to break my promise which is "not to respond to this again" (for the sake of posterity). benji93 please go back to my responses and read them very well. It is not about the solution to the problem (Mathematica can provide me with solution to inequations in 3 seconds). naturalwaves (by the way I like the bloke for his immense contribution to this forum) gave a handwritten solution to the inequation... derived a quadratic inequality from it and solved it but made a slight mistake which i pointed out to.... but in retrospect it seems he apparently misconstrued my solution to his quadratic inequality for the solution of the original inequation which I thought he was purposely intellectually trolling me because I made it clear it was for his derived quadratic (that is why i kept trying his solution to his quadratic inequality to see if it satisfies it rather than the inequation and also he was trying to extend the solution of his quadratic to the original inequation).

I really hope this will be my last response to this. Cheers!

Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, most of your points were on the quadratic till you mentioned at a time that the values will fail for both the quadratics and the parent equation. Moreover, the quadratic was derived from the equation but you kept on hiding behind the "if the qaudratic is correct tag". What you should have done is to check if the derived quadratic is wrong and correct the derived quadratic if it is wrong or even provide another solution to the problem from the beginning so that we can all follow through. I believe that would cost you nothing except if you do not have a pen all the while or you were not just in the mood to solve anything. It is a good thing to have someone scrutinize things so that everyone can get the best. It was never a game of right or wrong or ego play like you thought.

Let x= time Paul used in painting
y= time Fred used in painting
z=time both used in painting
Rate Paul used in painting= 1/x=1/2
Rate Fred used in painting=1/y=1/3
Rate for both used in painting=1/z=1/x+1/y
Hence, 1/z=1/2+1/3
1/z=5/6
Z=6/5=1.2
Therefore, time both used in the painting together is 1.2hours

I never knew a great thread like this has been in existence for years now. I look forward towards getting solutions to my mathematical problems. I have a glaring deficiency in mathematics. I have been passing with average result due to cramming.

The exam on linear algebra 11(matrix) I have next week is giving me concern. Cram job is not helping me either.

Please, if you guys can assist me by solving so of the past question papers for me, I will appreciate.
Thank in advance.

yes I meant your initial solution of x>-2/3 and x>4/3 (example 1 is in your set of solution which fails) . I have attached the full solution to the problem.

Gurus in the house, please i need ur help on this questions

1) P, R, and S are points, O is the centre of the circle. If POR = 150degree. Calculate PSR

2) P, Q and R are point on a circle, centre of OPQ =36degree, what is the size of PRQ

3) In the diagram, O is the centre of the circle, if OD=DC and LDCB=16degree, calculate LAOE

A point P moves so that it is equidistant from two points Q and R. Given that PR=8 and that <PRQ=30'. Compute the length of the line segment QR.

I assumed that you meant <PRQ=30° which is most likely (as 30'=0.5°)

|QR|=8√3 units =13.856 units

yes, exactly what i got. But icosahedron said i am wrong. Although, after finding the unknown angles, i finally applied sine rule and got the answer. What about you?

If the equations are really 3x+y=8 and x^2+x-y=6 then none of the options provided is correct!

I have provided the two values of y in my solutions and they are y=1.27 and y=26.73

If it was the right question that I solved, then I'm sure my solutions are right.

Cheers!
