alignacademy:It is the most brillant idea ever. By funding anti-smoking , it creates awareness and get publicity through WHO. The brand is seen as evil by most people but by this act, the ACT WOULD LEND LEGITIMACY FROM who AND GET NEW SMOKERS THROUGH CURIOSITY. 1 Like |

tripleY: It makes a lot of sense. 1. Smoking is addictive so everyone knows smoking is going to continue. 2. Smokers know that smoking is bad for them. They are aware that the cigarette companies are killing them 3. So this cigarette company decides to try to show its customers that it does care (which it doesn't) The big punchline: 4. And along the way, hopefully convince people who want to start smmoking, that they have found some ways to make smoking safe. 1 Like |

Conflict of interest is a crucial component in bioethics/research ethics in the life sciences and medicine. WHO just gave a practical illustration on a component of bioethics we learnt in school in a huge huge way. |

That is corporate polithinking/Politricking for you. They wanted to purchase some lobbying power and influence in the formidable anti-smoking Foundation and eventually be able to influence things. Like the Mafia saying - 'keep your friends close but keep your enemies closer' alignacademy: 1 Like |

rodeo0070: Not just them my brother. Doctors too, etc. Medical errors is the 3rd leading cause of death in the US. Yearly, cigarettes kill about 480,000 and doctors kill about 250,000. Let that sink in for a moment... And that’s for the US alone - with all their over testing. It will be worse in developing countries. Perhaps, in these parts, doctors kill more people than do cigarettes. |

alignacademy: Its a subtle style of what we call a "Hostile Takeover". Philips Morris will simply establish itself as the biggest sponsor of the campaign of the foundation until it becomes entirely dependent upon them for cash. That way, they get to decide what the foundation can and cannot do. After all, he who pays the piper dictates the tune. If they play ball, good, if they dont, pull the rug from under them. It works everytime................................ |

starstunna1313:It is because they are cowards for not putting their feet down to say we don't want something that will kill our citizens.I was so disappointed when I heard that the reason why tobacco company is still in our country killing the citizens and the government is not doing anything about it is because of the high tax rate and corporate social responsibility they are deriving from them. That is nonsense. |

Did you know that if you smoke, you're not only harming yourself, but your habit will affect up to 3 generations of your descendants? Smoking can cause damage to egg cells and sperm cells and these altered genes will be passed on to the next generation, increasing their chances of cancer and other smoking related illnesses (even if they themselves don't take up the habit) Quit smoking 1 Like |
