czaratwork: I understand that CPA, makes you a hot item in the labour market for accountants in Canada, how true is this ? .. Am thinking of just writing ACCA, as no one is able to provide me any information using ICAN for the conversion. Did you write any exam again after ACCA in this conversion to CPA process or you just paid some kind of fee ? thanks for the response.. please send to my yahoo mail.....PM on nairaland does not work for me |

You need to start the process right away. please inbox/PM me so that i can forward the process to you. If you are in Naija or Outside Canada, it is handled by CPA BC but if you are already in Canada, then get in touch with CPA of the province where you reside. If you start the process and you are not able to finish it before you land, you need to notify CPA BC that you have landed and the province where you reside so that they can transfer your file to that province. Even if you have finished the process, once you land, you need to notify CPA BC so that they can transfer your file to your province to enable you practice there. Tspice2015: |

So i heard but unfortunately i did ACCA in naija to back up my experience in banking not that i like being an accountant. My interest is IT SECURITY but i want to start from the known to the unknown. How long are you staying in Naija? How many papers can ACCA waive for you given your present qualification? I am asking all these so that you dont start something you wont finish. Thankfully ACCA now has 4 diets. (March, June, September and December). Lets assume you are starting from the scratch, you have 14 papers to go and if you take 2 at time you will have 1year nine months to write your exams. If you can ace 4 papers at a go then you are done within a year. Where there is a will, there is a way. Then to your second question, I only had to do an online course (overview of Canadian Tax and Law) which had seven 10 question quizzes. You need to score 70 percent to have considered to have passed each quiz and you can take the quiz over and over again until you pass afterwhich you will print your certificate of completion online and forward to them. The harder part of the course is getting them to enroll you for the course. You have to mail a certified cheque of CAD495 to them for them to give you access to the course. That for me was a process because you will need a bank in Naija that will do that for you then you will courier the cheque to them. I got my sister in the US to do it for me and it still took me 3 weeks to accomplish. ? .. Am thinkingi of just writing ACCA, as no one is able to provide me any information using ICAN for the conversion. Did you write any exam again after ACCA in this conversion to CPA process or you just paid some kind of fee ? thanks for the response[/quote] 1 Like 1 Share |

Ehrnie: Hi Ehrnie, I just came across this thread and I've been a silent reader. I'm practically waiting for ppr now, hope to get it soon and I plan to come to alberta. On this APEGA, can it be started while still outside Canada? I need more info on this oooo, thanks in advance. Cc: dupyshoo and all engineers in the house. einsteino:I can't think of any certification for civil engineers.Revit is quite popular here...would be good to know how to use it. I haven't met much civil engineers in the oil iindusty. The few i have met are into geotechnics and construction supervision of projects at fort mc. We dont have offshore oil fields in Alberta but plenty of pipelines. You can never go wrong with a masters if you have the opportunity. 1 Like |

Thanks. I have a mindset coach (she said she also turns peoples'challenges to opportunities) staying temporarily with us (me and my landlady) and she is like trying to tune my mindset to feeling positive about my job hunt. She asked of my strengths and i mentioned that i have a thirst for knowledge and like transfering what i have learnt to others she was like example? I used this immigration process as an example and she said Companies already know you have those qualifications and there are a handful that have better qualifications but they want to know they aint employing someone who will rock their boat. That you should use real life scenarios to highlight your strengths during your interview process. God has been ordering the steps of the right people towards me. I had a good session with her. follyzee: 12 Likes 2 Shares |

I have sent 2 mails to you. The second one is a form you will need to fill when you have submitted and they have accepted all the documentations you did initially. The 2 notarised documents of Identification they accept are either international passport, drivers licence or birth certificate. Thanks hayor2014: |

For those who have already started the ACCA conversion to CPA, you will be required to send in 2 of your notarised documents of ID listed below urgently so get them notarised and keep handy. The documents of identifications are any 2 from: a)International passport b)Drivers licence(my drivers licence has my middle name as my surname so they rejected it. i had to send my notarised birth certificate as my second form of ID) c)Birth Certificate [b]Read carefully PART 2: Identification Requirements in order to provide two valid notarized documents (for example a passport and a drivers’ license). Valid notarized documents are photocopies of your proof of identity documents (passport, driver’s license, etc.) that are verified (stamped and signed) by an authorized official (Notary Public, or Lawyer, or Medical Doctor, etc.). If your documents (including notary stamp) are not in English, you must have them translated by a certified translator. The two forms of notarized IDs (signed, dated, and stamped by an official seal of one of the following individuals: Notary Public, Lawyer, Minister of Religion Authorized Under Law to Perform Marriages, your Medical Doctor, Pharmacist, or Dentist, must be mailed (by courier, if possible) to the following address: Please note that photocopies of original or notarized documents received by email won’t be accepted and your application will be put on hold until we received appropriate proof of identity by mail. Please remember that under the MRA you are required to maintain your joint membership with ACCA to maintain your member status with CPA, as well as report your professional development with both CPA and ACCA. salford1: thanks alot for your reply. I use Revit well already, I think at least on an intermediate level. I wouldnt mind the pipeline engrng and I'm thinking out the masters already. Pls what areas in the O&G industry is lucrative and has a reasonable demand, trying to pin point what courses for a masters would make sense. |

Canadianfly:The 18k is likely for money spent on daycare/dayhome in a year. A friend of mine spent close to that for 2kids. She got around 3k back just on child care after filing her tax return though. The cellphone plan is not high. That is virgin mobile which is the next cheap network with good coverage after the likes of fido, koodo and freedom. If you want to know what high rates are, try bell, rogers or telus, the last 3 have no joy at all...lol Shaw internet/TV plan is $145 per month on a 2 year contract. Would drop the tv to the limited package of $25 plus $80 internet package when my current contract contract ends since we hardly watch tv, and we are also trying to limit the kids exposure to television. Canada is very diverse such that important things like work, cost of housing, schools e.t.c varies across towns, cities and provinces. It's not easy to give a one size fits all answer.. Before landing, I read through josh's story posted by yokus a few pages back. His template on mistakes to avoid when just arrived worked well for my family. 10 Likes |

einsteino:For cve, the most lucrative and in demand (Alberta, bc and sask) would be geotechnical speciality... especially on projects in the athabasca area. I am not sure if you would get a masters specific to pipeline though as it's a narrow field. Most companies would take employ mechanical, electrical, civil or materials engineering for pipeline related jobs. 1 Like |

penitential: Do the Visa office truly verify employment history physically? |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by Blackbuddy: 4:28pm On Oct 06, 2017 |
val4o: On a random basis, they may contact the employers of selected applicants for verification of employment details. NDVO does physically verification but so far, AVO usually calls or sends email to the concerned HR where they have need for such verification. AVo goes af far as to sometimes ask applicants to obtain and send the business registration documents of their employer and also take pictures of their office, the interior and exterior environments and even send samples of their work for review. This happened with a lady who applied via FSW 2014. She was a contract staff with Chevron, Lekki and had to provide the above. I had to advise her to take the pictures of her office during their TGIF party to avoid the suspicion of her colleagues and Chevron security department. She was successful with her application. 1 Like 1 Share |

Hello everyone, I withdrew from college because i just realized it's a private college and as such not legible for Post graduate work permit after paying about 1/4 of the tuition and attended classes only for a month. The college Directed told me he will inform CIC about my withdrawal. I have secured admission for May 2018, and in the process of securing admission in 2 different public colleges for Jan 2018. I am worried if CIC won't frown at me if the reported. Please advise. |

salford1:That $18k is probably for people with kids going to private school in Aspen Daycare for both my kids in a year would be $9600 (infant and toddler both full day progs). I was on virgin but it was becoming an abusive relationship. I'm on freedom mobile and I pay $40/month. With a new cellphone which I got recently it's an additional $35 so $75/month now. I use Shaw and internet and cable for now I pay $90/mth for the first 1yr on a 2yr contract. In a nutshell it's all about what works for you. I read josh's story too like 1yr and a half ago and it did make a lotta sense. 6 Likes 9 Shares |
