realpoacher:Ezenwa 's calmness is ever so reassuring. And I think he's been spoken to regarding his being dramatic. The defence worked tirelessly to shield him. Truth is he was resting on that day but Dude was alert few times the Zambians tested him. |

Icon4s: That was probably one of the best dummies anyone has seen in a while, it is just sad that u are even trying to understate that moment. U said Iheanacho was not ready but u have been known to have scathing attacks on Ighalo. He didn't have a good game by any stretch of the imagination but he also helped us get the goal by blocking Zambia's keepers sight. 1 Like |

Icon4s: Keep in mind when Agu got his role in the script right, Balogun excelled. Just like I pointed out during the crucifixion of Awaziem that poor cover from the full backs and defensive midfielders can make a good defender seem poor. I am glad that Rohr notices it too and I agree that Mikel Agu is learning the role. The second half showed it. I think that is why I did not even notice Balogun being poor in that first half. I was watching the positioning of the midfielders. I wish. I really wish Onazi does it. He would have been as big as Ngolo Kante or even bigger. But, he is interested in the forward play too much. Just as the position he was when he got injured. |

tbaba1234:Shehu as well as all the players needs thorough competition. Apart from Felix there's Torunarigha and I think Akpoguma. Torunarigha plays as a left back. If we can secure him it would do us good. Aina should battle Shehu. Nothing to lose. It would either mean Shehu keeps posting excellent performances or Aina replaces him. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: Go back and watch that first half. It did not completely have to do with Agu. His one on one positioning with the Zambian strikers was poor and his build up play was also sluggish even in the second half. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:42pm On Oct 10, 2017 |
adegwurulez: It also depends on the set-up. In Manchester United under Ferguson/Queiroz Champions League winning era, Tevez was mainly the man pressing the defence. The midfield stayed organized to receive the loosed ball that came from it. In our last game, Mikel was mostly the one doing it while the midfield stayed compact. I think this is due to the conservative orientation as a team. I am from the possession-heavy style of football and believe a lot in pressing as a unit. However, the defensive midfield and defence should stay compact. I agree with us pressing more to disposes oppositions. |

Icon4s: We are talking of Nigeria. Not Togo. We have the right mix of players, maybe even an overload of players to play a more offensive pattern. I even feel the conservative pattern hinders our best mix of players to excel. |

daveP:Iwobi has his place right in the middle of the park-though Moses Simon is easily be pocketed. Mikel is always in the midfield. The headache is who plays between Onazi and Ndidi cos if Iwobi retains his touches by the World Cup he would make us flourish in the midfield with Mikel player deeper. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe:Your first three paragraph are a gem. Mikel Agu will come good in that role as a direct replacement for Onazi in the future unless perhaps a better replacement is found. On Onazi the question is how is it that he keeps retaining his place? Doesn't the Coach see what you see? He bombed forward against Cameroon and we scored. I think he's doing something right based on the instructions of the coach which you ain't privy to. |

Mujtahida:Rohr should just pick between Ndidi and Onazi, honestly good to have two of them in d squad meaning we are covered in DMF but it seem Rohr is okay having Ndidi and Onazi in his starting lineup.. |

TheGoodJoe: At least I still made reference to Nigeria in that post. You cannot be playing against teams like Brazil, Germany, France, Spain etc and come all out offensive. You'll get punished. We do not have the equality to match there's so we have to remain compact and avoid being over-run and then hit them on the break. That is the way to play such teams. |

tbaba1234:I read that too on Ojokokojo saying his son won't play. The man na fvck up man if he still maintains that position. I'm just thinking perhaps World Cup can make him change his mind particularly seeing Iwobi, Aina doing great. |

Mujtahida: Did you notice Mikel and Iwobi combo that led to that goal. You noticed also that Iwobi and Mikel switched opposition at certain point. That is a killer combo. Let Mikel play AM and Iwobi play from the wings and switching positions with Mikel and at other times with Moses. We saw that work against Zambia (ie Mikel and Iwobi switching positions). Let's leave the Ndidi-Onazi combo the way it is for now. |
