Shebi you lambasted him after the Zambian match. Did a rewatching of the match change your view?
Look my guy u suppose to understand my views on football regards players.

I rate him highly and still rate him but am not happy with his performance especially in d first half.

But i w not be among school of thought that believed his performance against Zambia as to do with his age.

This is a guy that had great match against Algeria, Cameroon to d extent nominated as d best CB in Africa world cup qualifying XI.

But you've often talked about not having young guys in the defence. You permit it in the attack but in the defence you prefer seasoned guys.

There is always a threshold for optimum performance.

If you recall in one of our earlier discussions where I gave the average age from which different Nigerian players start declining. I gave that of defenders as 26/27 and went further to name most of our more recent defenders comparing their performances between when they were 21-23 and 26-28.

Yes I do not tolerate Green horns in the Super Eagles defense. Green horns I mean teenagers that have not played football at professional level or are just at the first season. Or have played like 2 seasons in less competitive leagues.

But note that I did not say Balogun should be dropped. He should depend more now on his positioning than speed. That is how experienced defenders that no longer have pace cope.

Balogun would be 30 by next year. Trust me he cannot be as quick as he was 3 or 4 years back.

Guy there was tension that day. I really didn't enjoy watching the match. In fact I felt we were poor. But after the match I rewatched the match and I saw that we weren't poor. Only there was too much pressure, too much expectation and the Zambians were dogged. The fact is the match was interesting with wave after wave of attack alternated by both sides. What the Zambians did was to make sure they broke up our passing game by upping the tempo of the game. It made us erratic and unsettled. It affected Balogun more than any other player in the first half. By the second half the Zambians naturally dropped some bit on the energy. That goal came through 15 passes from our end and very tight ones in the last seven that led to the goal.

The key is to not let Nigeria get into their rhythm. Once we do, we score. All our matches bear this out.
please where did you rewatch it

I know his age, what am trying to point out is that d same Balogun had an excellent games against Algeria, Cameroon but his performance against Zambia has nothing to do with age, that's my point.

Now, the difference is in the pace. He played against younger and quicker players and that lapse showed.

Thank God he was able to get it right in the second half meaning he can quickly adjust which is good news for us.

But his build up play remained slow even in that second half.

I think we should take it easy on Tammy sure it looks like he embarrassed a very proud Nigeria, but we have to admit pinnick kind of put him in that position, he needs to take it easy with this media talk, he dosent need to expose our plans everytime, he put Tammy in that position. Although I am not cutting him any slack there are ways things can be said where no harm is done on both sides, he hurt Nigerians with what he said, but I think it was inexperience and he will learn...we also need to think about things from him own side, he sure will be under pressure from England especially when he's a good young player and thev lost iwobi and Moses it definitely will piss them off and you know politics. But I don't think we will miss him in Russia he's not a significant upgrade on iheanacho. Dessers is only a matter of time when he proves himself this season he can be in Russia.
if it is talent for the future we have guys like umar sadiq, bonaventure, onyekuru, awoniyi, Osinmeh, nazifi yahaya, Ike ugbo who can be world beaters in a few years. It's only coz Tammy his in form now.
We Nigerians should try to be less emotional on these topics because 90% of the time the real truth dosent make the media, we should try see it for a sec from their point of view, most of these dual nationality guys don't feel Nigerian atall but we expect them to want to play for Nigeria just coz their parents are from there?
But it's not "they should stop embarrassing us, we should stop embarrassing ourselfs because we accept mediocrity dosent mean they should.
We have all the talent in the world and players who are ready to sacrifice all for Nigeria in Nigeria let's work on that, thank God we already are.

You have said it all on Tammy. No one's been in his shoes and there's so much we don't know. Newspaper reports are flat. But it would be extremely difficult to get Tammy, to prize him from England especially after they've lost Iwobi and see how he's flourishing with the SE. They would do everything to keep that Tammy even if it's on the Bench forever so long as he never gets to play for us.

Loogan I think the NFF is aware of Dessers and have reached out to him.

We Have Contacted Red Hot Belgian-Nigerian Forward Cyriel Dessers – NFF Confirms

A member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says the body has made contacted with Belgium born FC Utrecht forward Cyriel Dessers who is eligible to play for Nigeria.
Dessers fired NAC Breda to promotion to the top flight league in the Netherlands by scoring 25 goals, but the 22 year old jumped ship few months later to fellow Dutch side Utrecht.
He got off to a flying start with Utrecht by hitting a brace in their first league game of the season, a start which has no doubt caught the fancy of the NFF who are aiming to beat Belgium to his services.
Although he has been invited to the U20 team of Belgium, he won’t need any clearance from FIFA as he didn’t get to play in any competitive game for Belgium at any level.
”We are aware of him and he has been contacted already. The coach knows he is available if he wants him. So the decision on his inclusion in the team or not now rest squarely on the shoulders of the coach Gernot Rohr “, a member of the NFF told Owngoalnigeria.com in Kano.

”He is a good striker and that is one area the coach said he is looking for options. So let’s see if he will get a call up by the coach because he is among one of the strikers we have right now, who isn’t doing badly”.

On the German born guys, the defense is not a department you effect so many alterations. I will personally welcome any player for trial in the attack.

Echijile may not be leaving up to expectations but caution should be taken for us not run from frying pan to fire.

Truly we are limited upfront ooo. When we meet a team with a more compact defence we will be exposed cos we don't shoot from outside the box, we don't score from free kicks, corners, headers. Of our eleven goals so far ten have come from within the box. Only Ighalo's goal was from outside. Look at Germany, France and Spain shooting goals from outside.

Iheanacho scored from outside.

Not alterations but back ups if not competitors. What if(God forbid) Balogun or Troost get injured?
Cos we just have Awaziem for now. Omeruo, I no dey. Echiejile has Aina for now although it's better for Aina to jostle for the right back notwithstanding the good performances of Shehu. That means we must still scout for a left back.

Awaziem is s there and you know Omeruo is still around. But I get tour point.

You should also consider that only 23 players make the WC. 2 positions like the GK and CF typically get 3 players each. It then means not all starting 11 players in the squad can get direct back ups. The team has utility players that can switch positions Eg Ndidi can also play CB. Shehu can also play DM and CM. Onazi can play DM, CM and RB. Mikel can play DM, CM and AM. Iwobi can play from both wings and also AM. The coaching crew will know how to sort that out

Good point but to me I feel balogun is a good athlete and has taken care of his body, In my opinion he is faster than ekong and ekong is younger, he's fast for his size he showed in the Cameroon game, and he also reads the game well you have to admit. Maybe he should reduce his ventures going forward but if we had better defenders it would not be a problem.

Meaning players that fit in more than one role will top that world cup list. Infact almost all the starting 11 play diff roles at their clubs.

Yes, it's a merry go round thing regarding the versatility of the players. GK 3, Defenders are usually 6 or 7

Big forward refers to strikers who use a lot of their physical attributes to cause havoc against their oppositions. While mobile forwards rely a lot on their off/on the ball pace and skills to cause havoc.

Ighalo is the combination of the two attributes.
