On thinking more about it, I've just realized most Nigerian languages are the same way: Ondo Yoruba's don't understand the Ogun dialect, and Osun Yoruba's probably don't understand the Ekitu dialect.

My mom's language, Ibibio. Dad is Delta, Mum is Akwa Ibom, English was spoken in the house. Unfortunately I grew up in Uyo, so I speak Mum's language fluently, and can't even say 'come' in Urhobo. Its disgraceful, I know!

My own father's language, I no fit talk.

No matter how much I try, I just can't seem to learn it, they make fun of me at pop's hometown whenever I visit. Grannie calls me the 'calabar girl'. I REALLY hate that nickname.

I'm touring sweetheart, new year resolution was to visit 10 african countries, been in 6 (Ghana, Cabo Verde, SA, Mozambique, Namibia, Uganda). After Kenya, I'll bring up the number to 7, then back home to Nigeria, though if I feel like it, I'll branch in at Tanzania (Kilimanjaro selfie, yay!!! ) to bring the number up to 8.

Petty Side Note: To all Ghanaians, Kenyans, Nigerians, South Africans, etc wanting to visit Namibi, please make sure you have a pretty thick skin before you go, and try not to step foot in Swakopmund, the whites there are aggressively racist. A white guy there mistook me for a black South African and tried to physically intimidate me in a restaurant because I made a loud comment about Namibia being a paradise for racists after seeing the way he and his friends were haranguing a black waitress. I stood my ground and showered him with insults.

When I left the restaurant, he and his friends caught up with me, and tried to get physical, IN A PUBLIC STREET. They calmed down and eventually left me alone after profuse exchange of insults when I brought out a pepper spray and my travel knife. I told them I was willing to get fatally beaten up or even killed, so long as I seriously injured at least 2 of them. The idiots thought they could push me around simply because I appeared to be a defenceless young woman.
