Schools are closed already...... As to the veracity of the monkey pox rumors I can't say a thing, I hope it's not true. As a teacher, I don't mind the break because I'm sure schools will open on Monday next week........ 4 Likes |

Isaacmacdon: My dear don't you think the government should have atleast sensitized people on this monkey pox thing and also have them know that children will be immunised to contain the spread. There's always a sensitization before Polio immunisation kicks off and they dont go around with soldiers. Why go about with soldiers to immunise children if there's no ulterior motive My opinion though 10 Likes 3 Shares |

PRESS STATEMENT: ARMY MEDICAL OUTREACH* The attention of the State Government has been drawn to an on going medical outreach being undertaken by the Army in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area. *The State has been made to understand that the exercise is part of Army social responsibility to members of the public.* However, strong apprehension among the populace has followed the exercise leading to withdrawal of students from schools by parents, misconception of the actual motive behind the exercise by stakeholders, community leaders and a general reservation by the public for whom the outreach is intended. *To this end and to ensure no further escalation of the situation, His Excellency the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has contacted the Army Authories and advised for immediate stoppage of the medical outreach until wide sensitization is conducted to reassure people of its intentions and benefits. The exercise has therefore been put on hold.* Parents and guardians are strongly advised to stop withdrawing their wards from schools as the situation has been handled. All schools within the State will remain open as there is no cause for alarm! Community leaders, Presidents General and all Stakeholders are hereby reassured of the commitment of the Governor and the State Government to the wellbeing of Ndi Anambra. *The State Government also strongly condemns observed rhetorics on social media completely misrepresenting the situation with insinuations of spread of diseases and death of students in schools arising from the exercise. The State categorically refutes these rhetorics and confirms that there is no death of any student anywhere in the State. Mischief makers are warned to desist from spreading falsehood. Anambra remains calm and peaceful!* Thank you! *Prof Solo Chukwulobelu* Secretary to Anambra state government 1 Like |

Isaacmacdon: You are an example of one of the numerous things that is wrong with Nigeria. You are no better than those who either spread the rumour or the parents that withdrew their children. Was there adequate information to schools and parents regarding the vaccination/immunisation of the said disease? Is the state ministry of health aware of that? How do you surface all of a sudden with strange kits attempting to immunise school children? In the absence of adequate information, this is what you'll expect from parents and teachers. Stop blaming them. We heard of monkey pox, but nothing of the vaccine. Who manufactured the vaccine? If that wasn't monkey pox vaccine, what was it? If you are going to vaccinate/immunise the population against a particular disease, you'll first find out if they've been previously given the vaccine. Was that done? Assuming that wasn't monkey pox vaccine. How do you vaccinate/immunise someone who has had such before? Are you giving him a boost or what. I wouldn't let those people touch my child or anyone that I know till their mission is made clear through the right authority. What's the role of Anambra state government in this? Nigeria army has no business giving people vaccines. It's the job of the ministry of health and if it wasn't the Nigeria Army conducting it through their Army medical corps, why were they accompanying the officials to such place with all the rumours and distrust about their python dance exercise?? 12 Likes 4 Shares |

dunkem21:It is just a free medical outreach which is always done in conjunction with every military exercise. It is optional. Mostly, they treat adults with eye problems. Diagnose and treat some minor health condition. Carryout minor surgical procedures etc. Just do a little search on Google about it. What I don't understand is why people are making a fuss about it. Guess Radio Biafra spread the rumour. 3 Likes |

I honestly never imagined that people on Nairaland can be this gullible and stupid, I guess they have a motive for deliberately fueling this very stupid baseless rumour. You just proved how intelligent you are to believe and participate in propagating it, putting the lives of innocent people and children at risk. These false rumours have been circulating on social media for days and people still believed it, now they've taken it to another level?! 1 Like |
