Abdul Ajagun has played regularly for the biggest club in Greece and he has never been benched since he left for the Eredivise and Belgium pro league.

How he will be lost in the Championship still beats my imagination.

You don't know anything about Ajagun. Chikena.

You see Onazi has tenacity, a rugged determination garnished with skill good pace, vision and is very strong. He may have grown up on akpoo.

With those attributes I can see him surviving the championship standing out and making it to the EPL.

I have only seen Ajagun playing pretty football not getting down and dirty, that's why I rate Onazi more.

But the final matter HEIGHT have you seen many short midfielders in the championship From my recollection of Ajagun the guy short can not win any aerial battle.

I rest my case, present your own.

I could add on 2009 as a teenager hr looked old he looks older can those legs carry him with intense physio stamina required. This last paragraph is my biased unproven view.

How many of these players do you know personally

Knowing a player up front and personal knowing his Manager, his coaches, his agent's, then knowing his team mates, then seeing him in training and finally watching him live. That's really getting to know a player.

Otherwise all you have is carefully orchestrated media hype and image.

I will not use Nigerians players as examples.

But contrary to media hype Balotelli is a really nice humble and jovial guy. Very emotional, friendly and exuberant.

But what you have on the media is a badly behaved brat.

Some Players the only truth they will hear is on this forum not the hype thier friends and family feed them. Leaving them to believe they are achieving when they are not.

I think they have heard enough if this truth on this forum. Have they not said enough? Many in terrible ways.

Has anyone ever complained that Kelechi has a bad behaviour? Since I started following that boy's interviews, the one constant I keep hearing is hard work. He works hard, he's not a robot. He is trying, but man cannot do everything on his own, there are many factors that come into play, not just in the game.

....in fact, I don't want to talk too much about Kelechi cuz sometimes, I think of him as me and when some people say stuff here, I really want to slap them because I feel like they are talking to me.

You and many more will not understand....this angle you see it from is the angle of logic and logic is not always right.

Good morning

Kalika was the tactical brains while Siasia was the figure head. Sometimes you need such a set up.

As a matter of fact we were on the verge of being booted out of the U20 championship in 2005 after drawing the first game against Brazil and loosing the second to South Korea. The Nff at that point booked the teams return ticket in advance prior to our last group match against a star studded Switzerland team with guys already playing at top level like Djourou and Senderous (Yes, he was highly rated at this point. Arsenal fought off Real Madrid to sign him).

At this point, Kalika hooked up with Siasia. We won that game 3:0. And subsequently, Kalika was detailed to scout and analyse opponents and suggest tactical formations to be applied.

I found it astonishing to learn that Siasia had no idea about the teams we were to face prior to that tournament. This much was revealed by Kalika in an interview I read years back.

Siasia is overrated, I'm sorry to say.

I didn't want to take this up but ok. Was Kalika at the Rio Olympics? No. Now one of the characteristics of a tactically sound manager is his ability to work with whatever he has at that particular time. Coming to the Rio games Etebo was our main attacking threat, he got injured in the first game yet the team continued strong without him. Azubuike got suspended and if not for Sadiq Umar we would have defeated Germany, easily. So the reason why we finished third was not because the coach was poor, infact the only reason why we finished third was because of the tactical strength of our bench and their ability to devise a working solution in the face of injury to key players, withdrawal of players and lack of preparation. If Iheanacho was in that match against Germany he would have buried two chances atleast and we would be singing his praises right now, was Kalika part of that team I ask again.

On the other hand we have Rohr, the only game where he had to deal with injuries and unavailiability of key players guess what? We lost and we lost woefully without a single shot on target IIRC, what was our excuse? He is still new to the job but Siasia on his own part without even preparing well enough took an average side(after the withdrawal of several key players) despite further injuries to key players and still got to the semifinals. We can fault Siasia's team selection but saying that his success was because of Kalika is ridiculous

Na wetin I still dey yarn...To you, playing beautifully is being tactical...That match against Guinea was bullcrap...Keshi played well against Spain, Argentina and France but lost...Y'all came out to confirm how tactically inept he was and how he has been lucky all this while...What were the matches Siasia won in Olympic again self..He never won any good side.

I am not sure anyone has ever questioned Keshi's tactical prowess, his team selection yes, but not his tactical ability.

A tactically sound manager is one that can devise a feasible and effective formation no matter the players he has. The only game that has truly tested Rohr's tactical ability was the game against SA and he failed. Hopefully Mikel and VicMo won't play against Algeria then we will see how far we have gone. Siasia on the contrary has excelled in similar conditions. Rohr is the better manager all round but better tactician? Not even close

For clarification sake that Tiago Ilori has not depreciated, enjoy this article. grin He refused to leave England for Germany, Spain and Greece, the same way Kelechi Iheanacho refused to leave England for PSG in France and a German club.

In short, he went to one of the prospect for promotion into the EPL but unfortunately they lost in the play off promotion finals. .

FRANKFURT AND FREIBURG LOOK TO SIGN TIAGO ILORI

TIAGO ILORI

TIM LUMB @TimLumb

Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg are one of the few teams looking at signing Liverpool player Tiago Ilori this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The report names Frankfurt and Freiburg alongside Greek side Olympiakos and Spanish side Granada. Liverpool are thought to want to see him move away permanently, and they would like £3 million for him.

The 23-year-old centre-back signed for Liverpool in 2013 from Sporting CP. He hasn’t played a Premier League game for the side, although he made three appearances in cup competitions last season.

Gualter Fatia/Getty Images Sport

Most of the time he was sent on loan by Liverpool. He spent a period of time at Granada, who are one of the interested parties. He’s also spent a period in the Ligue 1 with Bordeaux, as well as time with Aston Villa.

The report states that Olympiakos would like to bring the 23-year-old in on loan, which may be against what Liverpool want to do. Freiburg has recently been promoted back to the Bundesliga, while Frankfurt were in a relegation battle last season.

Liverpool have offloaded multiple players already this summer. Joe Allen, Jordan Ibe and Christian Benteke have all left Anfield for more than £10 million each.

First of all, you have to appreciate the fact that the last Olympics was of a very low standard, no thanks to club's refusal to release players. I honestly think football should be scrapped from the Olympics if what was witnessed at the last tournament was anything to go by.

Honduras getting to the Semi final was a reflection of how shiit the tournament was really....

In a tournament of top quality, you cannot go straight from the plane to the match venue and escape unpunished.

Now coming to tactics, Siasia was totally exposed when he came up against a decent Colombia and German team. We lost those two games!
Stay with me, against Germany. It was very obvious he had little or no background check on the German team. The balance of play reflected this. The German boys ran rings around us and tore us to pieces. We lost that game the way we did because the team was badly set up. It was one of the most one sided semi final game I have ever witnessed.

To top it all, he even made a caricature of the team selection by taking a dwarf to the tournament. Lol

Kalika speaking:

As we talked, I asked him how much he knew of Nigeria’s first round opponents. He said not much.
It was too late to go and watch Brazil, which were their first opponents, but he asked if I could go and watch South Korea and give him a report, which I did.
I knew he never looked at my report after the game and it was not too long ago that he admitted it.
Nigeria lost and was now walking a tight rope.
They had to win the last game against Switzerland to continue in the competition and I even learnt that the NFA had started making plans for the team to return home.
Samson called me and asked me if I could watch Switzerland for him. I asked myself; why would I want to do that if he would not bother using my report
We talked about it and I was saying that we should go for an all out attacking plan. I told him I was only giving him what I believed was good advice but then I did not know the players and the team well enough to know if it would work.
I guess taking my advice was also going to be difficult for him. We had not known each other for more than one, two weeks. I said he knew them better than I did and should know if he had the players to play that way.
He went with what I told him and I can say that game against the Swiss turned out to be the best by the team during the tournament. That the team won by scoring three goals consolidated our relationship.
Maybe, if things had gone the other way, we would have gone our separate ways.
I went on to do similar work for him for the remaining games; against Ukraine, Holland and Argentina.

I managed to get this from my archive.

Rohr has lost one game since he became manager.

But he has also topped a group made up of 4 former African champions, including the current champions.

Some people will tell us how 'untactical' he is because of the one loss but forget that he beat 3 african champions.

Ask yourself, with Siasia's team selection, will we get out of this WC group? It is not as if Siasia has not been tried at national team level. We saw how bad his team selection was at the Olympics.

A tactical side does not show the kind of atrocious defensive frailties that Nigeria showed at the olympics. Ekong and Daniel were the team's saviours several times.

Rohr is a mature manager with vast experience. He is bringing that to play in Nigeria.

For once, we do not have to deal with questionable invites and nepotism. For the forseeable future, keep the Nigerian coaches out.

Thank you. Load your Canon, Aim, Fire!
On a more serious note, I say it's still early days to start making such comparisons between Rohr and Siasia and I can see that you have deftly avoided lauding Rohr whether in his 'now famed' man management style or tactical ability but you are focusing on Siasia because the track record is there. Rohr needs a run of time too before we can settle this issue.

I know something about words:you repeat them often and then it sticks and sometimes passes as reality until it is examined. That's what they are doing now: he's not tactical, he's not tactical, he's not tactical and before long that notion becomes fixed. I repeat even with seven wins (five for the WCQ qualifiers, two friendlies) two draws and one defeat over a period of one year is in my estimation still too early to start making comparisons.

Sporting's defender Tiago Ilori during the Portuguese league football match SL Benfica vs Sporting CP at Luz Stadium in Lisbon on April 21, 2013

Chai! Tiago Ilori playing against one the bests strikers in the world. They won that match by 3-2. grin grin
TIAGO ILORI PROGRESSING NICELY ON LOAN AT BORDEAUX grin

Tiago Ilori Progressing Nicely on loan at Bordeaux
Liverpool’s highly rated central defender, Tiago Ilori, is now beginning to blossom at Bordeaux after a tough start to life on loan in Ligue 1.

A hamstring injury back in October against Reims, that consequently saw him miss around two months, curtailed what had been a decent start to his loan spell.
grin

Ilori Progress

Since his return from injury, however, the Portuguese’s performances have been rather encouraging, as he continues to justify why Liverpool were so keen to acquire him, and paid £7 million to do so grin.

While he’s been partnered with multiple central defenders for a variety of reasons since coming back, including fellow Liverpool target Lamine Sane, Nicolas Pallois and Cedric Yambere, it’s been important to note Ilori has been a constant. His form has been solid too, something that’s obviously been greatly helped by the fact that he’s remained fit. grin

Obtaining playing continuity is vital for any footballer’s development, and in Ilori’s case, it’s fantastic to see him reaping the benefits of getting vital top flight minutes.

Playing against the likes of PSG, Saint Etienne, Guingamp and Toulouse this season will act as a terrific stepping stone for him in his quest to be a mainstay for Liverpool in the future. shocked shocked grin

Lining up in his now-customary position on the right side of central defence against Lens on the weekend, the 22-year-old produced another very positive display. tongue grin

Up against Lens’ physically imposing forward Adamo Coulibaly, who really is a brute of a man, Illori stuck to his role nicely, successfully limiting his impact shocked grin.

On many occasions, the former Sporting prodigy beat Coulibaly in the air and even held up well in battles of strength, but the area in which Ilori absolutely dominated related to sheer pace. shocked grin

He made certain that Lens had little joy playing balls in behind Bordeaux’s defence. Despite their relatively high line, the unbelievable covering speed and anticipation of the youngster almost completely nullified this avenue of attack for the away side.

Even on the odd occasion where a ball went over his defensive partner Yambere, by using his speed, Ilori would ofen motor across and kill the move. On 40 minutes a perfect example of this arose. Here, after Pablo Chavarria had broken through in behind Yambare, it looked as though the Argentine was clean in. It wasn’t to be. Thankfully for Bordeaux, Ilori charged across the field to execute a precise sliding tackle to knock the ball out for a throw in and save his team. grin

[It was a magnificent piece of action, and one that illustrated just how good he is physically He can leap, he’s fast and even quite strong despite his slender frame, and when combined with the fact he’s 190cm tall and only 22 years of age, he undoubtedly ticks almost all the boxes required in a modern day centre back. shocked grin

Intriguingly, and on a side note, he unsurprisingly still holds the record for the fastest 30-metre sprint at Sporting.

The youngster, also, showcased his ability to take up excellent positions and make good decisions – with and without the ball.

Hardly ever caught out in this contest was Illori, for he positioned himself intelligently enough to cope with any situation. He stayed goalside when tracking markers and didn’t step up and lunge into tackles overzealously. The maturity he showed when addressing the problems ahead of him, and in dealing with them in a calm and composed manner, was a real highlight.

Seeing as Lens often looked to move the ball down the flanks and whip crosses in for Coulibaly, it was impressive to note just how well Ilori dealt with these situations. As mentioned above, his concentration and awareness to remain goal side and keep track of his man was wonderful. This, in turn, meant that the languid figure was so often perfectly situated to clear and cut out crosses. The whopping 11 successful clearances he made depicted his effectiveness aptly here.

Whenever Bordeaux look to facilitate their attacks, their fullbacks Diego Contento and Mariano always have a key role in providing width for Les Girondins. So with this prerequisite in place, the covering work Ilori undertook was crucial in allowing his right fullback, the marauding Mariano, to motor upfield freely. It also gave the Brazilian peace of mind knowing that Ilori would cover his man, Lens left-winger Baptiste Guillaume, if a turnover occurred.

On the ball, the elegant stopper exhibited that fine passing range he possesses. While he often opted to play simple passes into Bordeaux’s deep-lying midfielder Gregory Sertic, his accurate long balls, horizontal and vertical, illustrated delightfully his quality in possession. This facet of his game should mean that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has little hesitation when integrating him in next season – if he chooses to use him.

The technical quality of Tiago hit us,” mused Bordeaux manager Sagnol on this. shocked grin

Statistically, his numbers are rather impressive for Bordeaux too, and consist of him averaging 2.2 tackles per game, 2.7 interceptions pg and a colossal 6.1 clearances per game.

The former Granada man recently commented on his desire to return to England and to have an impact. “My long term plan is to play and win titles for Liverpool Football Club. The team they are building can be huge, and I want to be a part of that.”

All things considered, this wildly talented Liverpool loanee really does look to have a bright future ahead of him. The idea of a future central defensive pairing of Mamadou Sakho and Ilori is something that’s gaining traction, and could well become a reality sooner rather than later. We’ll just have to wait and see what Rodgers’ plans are for this very gifted defender.

These are why I rate him highly than Dominic Iorfa Jnr. I have seen both played but this is just to put the nail in the coffin. grin

We say how bad his team selection was at the Olympics.

You can say push Omeruo who has more physique but that would be playing him in an unfamiliar role. Azeez would have been the goof. He was going to be light, not fast enough in a game of such intensity. With the hard tackles coming in, he would have been a goner.

You are yet to say why Azeez would have been a success. Except that he did not come in. It was too fierce for him.

Who is faster between Onazi and Azeez?

Who is faster between Azeez and Gabriel? grin

Which full story? You are off point and calling it full story. The Spaniards play a possessive side which help their less physical players deal with hard, physical pressure. We do not play that way, so Azeez would have not been able to cope.

It is so simple. Comprede?

I hear you but I no gree. grin

The South African loss was a great blessing. I started off this discussion by posing questions. The issue was that Rohr is conservative with people like Humility017 and goodjoe stressing that point(and truly I can concede that that is likely given that Rohr is 64 but heck even Aragones who set the Spanish national team rolling in its heydays was old as well as Del Bosque who took over from him). I asked, is he conservative as regards 1)player personnel- considering the fact that he has reduced the teams average age?
The man himself has said that he doesn't believe in one of the well tested clichés of Conservative coaches which is 'you never change a winning team' but still they no gree.

2)is he conservative tactically? Here they are even close to saying he is poor.
At the end Siasia was thrown in as being far more tactically adept than Rohr but goldfish80 has stepped in to examine the much touted tactical nous of Siasia and Hmmmm, hmmm

Finally you have given a fine expose on this issue but they will say the team has won the matches it won because of Rohr's man management skills and not tactics.

As for me I feel time will tell. We would come back to have this discussion again in the future.
