Nigeria Leon Balogun Not Getting Games At Mainz 05 After Refusing To Sign Contract Extension The curious case of one of the best defenders in Africa Leon Balogun not getting games at Bundesliga side Mainz 05 has provoked an explanation from German Journalist Roland Mark. Balogun was once again left on the bench yesterday when Mainz 05 defeated Hamburg 3-2 in league game, meaning so far he has only played three league games out of the 8 games played so far. He has played only in games against Bayern Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim with a total of 270 minutes under his belt since the start of the season in Germany, same game time he has had for Nigeria in one months of World Cup 2018 Qualifiers. ” It is connected with his contract. The club are already planning for life without him, which could be next season with his contract set to run out this next summer, when he will be away at the World Cup with the senior national team of Nigeria “, Mark told Owngoalnigeria.com. Nigeria Super-Sub Samuel Kalu Fire Brace For Gent, Moses Simon Claim Assist, Esiti Subbed Off Belgium top division side Gent had their Nigerian forward Samuel Kalu to thank after he rose from the bench to score both goals which gave them a 2-0 win over Waasland Beveren in a First Division A game in Belgium. Kalu was introduced in the 66th minutes with scores levelled at 0-0 and the 20 year old settled into the game nicely, slotting home his first of the game in nine minutes after his introduction. Five minutes from full time he completed his brace which wrapped all three points for his team, thanks to his fellow Nigerian Moses Simon whose strong effort was parried onto the path of Kalu to score. The brace took the goal tally of Kalu to three in seven games, same amount of goals he scored last season from 16 games following his signing in the January transfer window. In the same game out of favour Super Eagles midfielder Anderson Esiti was on for 70 minutes before he was substituted in the game where he picked up a booking in the 50th minute. I didn't get to watch the Deportivo game but it appears Uzoho was the best rated player. He posted a 7.7 on the dashboard. The highest on both side. |

TheGoodJoe: Assume you re Rohr, how many do you intend to call? 100,300,500? We have hundreds of exciting young players scattered all over Europe. Players in current SE setup are not doing too bad so it's unnecessary IMO inviting 100s as if we re conducting U-17 screening. |

TheGoodJoe:and what makes u think that the screnings is gonna be fair ..U think those guys ain't got sentiments. . How can a national team which is funded mainly by the government embark on such money draining exercise when we can easily select 22 of our best players in top leagues... 1 Like |

I have noticed an interesting pattern. The most rated youngsters from the 2013/2015 U17s seem to be fading while the back ups who have developed quietly outside the limelight have grown in leap and bound. Great to see Uzoho, Alhassan, Awoniyi, Orji and Habib Makounjoula progressing nicely. 2 Likes |

krattoss: According to Westerhof. Someone who I know did it the right way and built one of the best squads on the World from Nigerian players. As I said, a call for a screening process free of bias. Selecting the best in each role. Any other way is self deceit. Unless you can point out a better approach. |

TheGoodJoe:honestly. Leon's another likeable guy in the team, hard to say a bad word of him even when he has a not so good performance...I'll have to say, this team is filled with likeable guys, most of them are upbeat, fun, great personalities all round. I haven't connected with a team as much as I have these guys and I must attribute that to their social media presence. If I want to know what's up in camp, I can always visit Iwobi's Snapchat or Ogu's or Ndidid's...Leon's IG page is also very useful as well as Awaziem's....I think the easy access thing helps a lot. Makes one wonder why ANS was suggesting they get banned off social media last month 4 Likes |

safarigirl: If the news of Balogun planning his departure from Mainz, then I am throwing my weight behind him. It means he was to make a quality impression at the World Cup where all eyes of football lovers around the globe will be watching. A top quality impression will definitely land him a move in a top club. I hope the other lads stay focused too. They have the attitude and quality to make a big impact. I hope Rohr gets his act right too. As for Social media, as long as they behave responsibly and stay off controversies, connecting with fans will only increase loyalty and support. Also, they should sleep early. 1 Like |
