Thanks for your kind words. I will email u on NL. Maybe we can exchange email messages because I'd first like to have a clear idea of the platform's objectives etc. thanks in advance

Fringes:

My very good man, I doff my had for you. We need you, Komekn and tbaba1234, as you have posited, if you all resonate at this same 'high octane' frequency, in the developing Nigerian Nation - vis a vis her football.

I'll send you a NL mail but just in case you do not receive it, I'll be happy to speak with you and both men you mentioned

You have excellent submissions, I must say, and myself and a few other Nigerians you all know are working hard to harness the positive energies that young professionals of Nigerian origin have for/about/around the game of football.

We are carefully selecting those we invite on the basis of knowledge, depth and intelligence exhibited. That's why I have come to you - and everyone I have reached.

WhatsApp is the best medium of this ongoing convo. I'll be happy to invite you to one of the most operational places you can directly involve yourself and see it truly manifest. Many times, people say talk is easy. Now we have a platform where you can talk, interphase with "them," hear from the principal officials and suggest directly what your best thought ideas are.

A few people here have joined us and can tell you their experiences.

P.S: Dropping phone numbers or email addresses on NL have proven to be risky over time. Fruadsters often take advantage of that, often times long after the need is completed. That's why I have been unable to do so. I hope you'll respond to my NL ails.

TheGoodJoe:

Understand before critiquing. I said, hence there was plenty of room behind the South Africans and Nacho was getting behind them with ease, there was no need dropping deep. What we needed was someone to feed him.

However, at least I have sung study Firmino for too long. That is in respect of playing more part in the overall game play of the team.

If the team sits deep and restricts spaces to attack, the the striker can drop deep to help break down the defensive wall. However, if there are spaces behind the defenders, build up is not a priority but exploiting the spaces behind.

A lot of teams sit tight at the back when playing City, thus few spaces to exploit by the striker. Thus dropping deep is important.

Gerrit?

How quickly the narrative changed from "no need joining the build up, because there was nothing wrong with it" to "there were spaces in by the defense to exploit, hence the need to wait for a lucky break" Wow!

The Stoke City sat impressively deep enough pushing Silva back still chop 7 goals, so much for sitting tight.

There's no winning this argument as it requires me to find out the impossible - to what degree each of the teams sat tight, since there's no S.I unit, or any other unit of measurement to provide a more accurate result except for what we see on TV which in most cases is relative, I hereby rest my case, if I don't you might come up with another notion in nacho's defense saying the field might have contributed to the poor showing.

I'd rather listen to my Leela James collection.

Happy Sunday!

ANS OPINION

Five Players That Can Improve Super Eagles: Abraham, Tomori, Tosin, Torunarigha & Kevin
Published: October 14, 2017

Tammy Abraham : The desperate desire of the NFF to recruit the services of the Chelsea loanee explain so much the unflinching trust they had placed on him.

One of the revelations of the English Championship last season where he hit 23 goals in 41 games, he had carried his impeccable streak of form onto the current campaign, having already stuck twice in seven outings for his Swansea side and it is little wonder why The Three Lions would equally be keen to rope him in soon.

There is, however, not a plausible glut of goalscoring options to readily pick from for the Super Eagles and having a proven goal poacher like the youngster in the fold would make for a reasonable coup.

Tosin Adarabioyo : Adarabioyo had been on the books of Manchester City since he was five, and having turned out for the senior team in the the FA Cup, League Cup and the UEFA champions league, the time is, perhaps right to give the Manchester-born defender a look in.

Tall, imposing and strong in tackling, the 20-year-old would be a viable back-up for the defensive duo of Leon Balogun and William Troost-Ekong.

Fikayo Tomori : The Chelsea talent who had appeared for both the England and Canada junior teams had long been muted for a Super Eagles call-up.

Now gradually establishing himself as a first choice starter at Hull in the English Championship; something that had eluded him at his parent club, it would be interesting to see him bring his near-impeccable attributes to the national team.

Fitness issues or loss of form for any of the established defenders might help further his cause before 2018.

Jordan Torunarigha : Another exciting talent who should equally be considered for the Russia World Cup traveling band is Jordan Torunarigha.

The German-born defender who plays for Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga has all the qualities of a modern-day defender who would unarguably bring a bit of extra vigour and spark.

Still just 20,it would hardly be a stretch if Rohr decide to bolster his youthful options with the acquisition of this dynamic player.

Kevin Akpoguma : In terms of astute solidity and cohesive game-reading, the national team selectors would be bagging a good fit for the defensive zone in the shape of the Hoffeinheim defender.

Having captained the Die Mannschaft U19 team to Euro glory in 2014, throwing the 22-year-old into the fray might prove particularly a decisive recruitment as he would help shore up a back line that is fast becoming as watertight as anything.

All things been equal, it would equally ensure he ultimately gets the senior international football he richly deserves.

Emmanuel Chinaza

With regards to Tosin he has played zero games in the premiership for City. He has essentially only played youth football.

I have seen Tosin play I am not impressed the only thing he has on his CV is that I'm a a city player, that's all. By now he should be on loan.

Tomori has been on loan at Brighton and now Hull he has been far from impressive. He is not a first choice CB unlike Aina who is the first on the team sheet. However, his team mate Michael Hector is first choice CB and he also is on loan from Chelsea.

Compare both of them to Dominic Iorfa and he is so far ahead of them it's like they are still in primary school, while he is in university.

I really can not comment on the German players simply haven't watched them long enough to form an opinion.

Nigeria Leon Balogun Not Getting Games At Mainz 05 After Refusing To Sign Contract Extension

The curious case of one of the best defenders in Africa Leon Balogun not getting games at Bundesliga side Mainz 05 has provoked an explanation from German Journalist Roland Mark.
Balogun was once again left on the bench yesterday when Mainz 05 defeated Hamburg 3-2 in league game, meaning so far he has only played three league games out of the 8 games played so far.
He has played only in games against Bayern Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim with a total of 270 minutes under his belt since the start of the season in Germany, same game time he has had for Nigeria in one months of World Cup 2018 Qualifiers.
” It is connected with his contract. The club are already planning for life without him, which could be next season with his contract set to run out this next summer, when he will be away at the World Cup with the senior national team of Nigeria “, Mark told Owngoalnigeria.com.

DONT MISS ==> EXCLUSIVE : Belgium Side K.V. Oostende Close In On Loan Deal For FC Porto Fidelis Irhene
” It’s no secret that he is one of the best defender in Africa at the moment judging by his performances for Nigeria during the World Cup 2018 Qualifiers, yet he has refused to sign an extension at the club.
” I don’t know if the club offered him an extension but I know he hasn’t signed one yet. Hopefully he will move to a club befitting of his status next season after the World Cup “, Mark concluded.

Clean sheet for Uzoho on his debut, not the most exciting game but he won't mind.

Looks like Pepe Mel listened to the calls of fans who wanted Uzoho made number 1.

I hope he repays the confidence.

If he keeps playing then our GK situation for the world cup could get interesting

There's something about Spanish fans and Nigerian players.

Watford Ace Success In Rohr’s Plans For World Cup – He’s Different From Other Strikers

Isaac Success has been handed a lifeline by coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr who still has the player in his Russia World Cup 2018 plans despite his poor form for Watford.

Success made his senior international debut for Nigeria ‎in the 1-1 friendly draw against Senegal in London, but since then injuries and poor form means he hasn’t been called up to the team.

However Rohr still rates him highly and will consider the forward once he sort out his poor form at Watford, where he has been warned by manager Marco Silva about his career after news broke out that he had a row with four commercial sex workers.

” Success still has a chance of going to the World Cup. For now he is the only player we have in the attack of the team who loves to use his body and strength ‎, that distinct quality is what could earn him a spot in the team to Russia “, a member of the backroom staff of the Super Eagles told Owngoalnigeria.com.

” Rohr is a big fan of Success, and just like everybody he is disappointed in the way things have turned out at Watford this season, but if he starts playing games then no doubt he will be called up to prove himself “, he concluded.

OWNGOAL Speculation... Who Is the assistant ?

Enyeama Return May Bring Another Crisis – Rohr’s Assistant Warns

‎The impending return of Vincent Enyeama to the senior national team of Nigeria could hamper the unity and also bring about a leadership tussle in the team according to the goalkeeper trainer of the team Alloy Agu.

A little over a year ago, Enyeama left the team in controversial circumstance after a row with then coach Sunday Oliseh, which lead to his removal as captain of the team shortly after he announced his retirement from the team.

Enyeama has agreed to return to the team according to coach Gernot Rohr who still feel the team need his experience despite the presence of goalkeepers like Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

The vacuum created by the absence of first choice goalkeeper ‎Carl Ikeme according to Rohr can be filled without stress by Enyeama, who is presently out injured and also having issues at his French side Lille.

While Rohr is certain Enyeama will improve their options, the goalkeeper trainer of the team Alloy Agu thinks otherwise, insisting that Enyeama’s return will only breed fresh leadership crisis and affect the bonding in the team.

Speaking to Sports Village Square, the former Nigeria international goalkeeper said ” The current Super Eagles under the captaincy of John Obi Mikel will do well in Russia. The likes of Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Dele Ajiboye and other goalkeepers have responded well to training “, he said.

]which friendlies did Conte play[/b]?.. Training is where coaches notice the qualities of players and decide to try out different things. That's what i'v maintained.
My point has always been Conte saw Moses' qualities and opted to play him there. .Even Moses said he had to go back and watch his debut as Wing BAck against Hull, in other to work on it further.

Or have you been watching Joel Obi's training over the years to say he CAN'T play as AM? hahaha

covering up your baseless arguments with that smiley all the time don't still make it look logical.

Antonio Conte admits 3-4-3 wasn't his first choice formation

Published 11 months ago Add your comment

Football News

24/7

It is no secret that Chelsea's imperious form since losing 3-0 to Arsenal towards the end of September has coincided with manager Antonio Conte's big tactical shake-up.

A switch to three at the back, with N'Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic shielding in front, has given the Blues a solid defensive setup after appearing worryingly vulnerable at the start of the season.

It has also had a dramatic effect on the team's fortunes at the other end of the pitch.

Eden Hazard and Pedro have both thrived in less restrictive roles behind Diego Costa, who has also hit a hot streak of form, in a Chelsea side that have scored 16 times in their last five Premier League matches.

Conte has deservedly received plenty of plaudits for ensuring such a successful transition to a slightly unique formation but the Italian has revealed that the current 3-4-3 setup wasn't initially his preferred choice.

When asked why he didn't turn to the winning formula sooner, Conte said: "It was because in my mind I wanted to play with 4-2-4," as per ESPN.

"I wanted to start the season with this because you have wingers who are strong one vs. one and I like to play with two strikers very close together. But I changed it

"I must be honest, during the preseason when we started to prepare, there was 4-2-4 but also 3-4-3 because this squad could play both systems. I changed it because it gave us more balance defensively and offensively."

FBL-ENG-PR-CHELSEA-EVERTON

The hurtful loss at the Emirates was the final nail in the coffin for Conte's persistence with a back four and he explained the difference his tried and tested defence of three has made.

"I was worried [after the Arsenal loss] because we were conceding a lot of goals in every game and were also letting teams have a lot of chances to score," Conte added.

"For this reason, we changed. Normally when you lose, it's important to have good thoughts, to change to improve and to explain why you made this step.

"I think together with the players we are working very hard and we are finding a new way to change the situation."

FBL-ENG-PR-SOUTHAMPTON-CHELSEA

The 3-4-3 formation was considered somewhat unfashionable in the modern era not too long ago but Conte, first with Juventus, a bit with Italy and now with Chelsea, is showing the value of setting up a team to maximise the strengths of key individuals.

He has stumbled upon the dream combination of getting his side looking like they can score with every attack and almost impossible to break down at the other end.

Chelsea have become the team no one wants to face right now.

Super Eagles Rave Of The Moment Shehu Abdullahi Sent Off In Anorthosis Famagusta Stalemate

Shehu Abdullahi went from the high of winning the Man of the Match award for Nigeria in their 1-0 win over Zambia last weekend to the low of taking the walk of shame for his team Anorthosis Famagusta.

Abdullahi started but only lasted 37 minutes after he was shown a straight red card for a tackle deemed as dangerous in their 1-1 draw against Apollon Limassol.

Ever present for the Cypriot side, the 24 year old will however be glad that his sending off didn’t cost his team all three points as a strike from Gordon Schilddenfeld in the 71st minutes rescued ‎a point for his team.

The sending off means he will be suspended for the next three domestic games of the club, which will coincide with when he is expected to resume camp for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their World Cup 2018 Qualifiers dead rubber ti‎e against Algeria next month.

Visa Hitch Stops Nigeria U17 Star From Club Brugge Trials

Nigeria U17 international Nazifi Yahaya has been denied a visa to Belgium and a proposed switch to Belgian First Division A powerhouse Club Brugge is hanging in the balance.

The Belgian Embassy here in Nigeria noted that the striker and his minders do not have enough funds in their bank account to take care of the player's expenses while in West Flanders.

''Nazifi Yahaya was invited to attend trials with Club Brugge, we got an official letter of invitation from the club but he was denied a visa by the embassy,'' a top source close to Yahaya told allnigeriasoccer.com.

''The Embassy said the money in his account was not enough, so we are considering other options.

''Atletico Madrid were also interested but because of the Fifa ban they cooled their interest. He might remain with Kano Pillars next season if his move overseas does not materialize.''

Meanwhile, Nazifi Yahaya has shown his appreciation to Kano Pillars for agreeing to offer him a deal despite his young age, and has vowed to perform more than expected if his contract is renewed.

It is understood that the Nigeria Professional Football League giants are locked in talks with Dabo Babes Academy over the extension of Yahaya's stay.

Ex Nigeria U17 Goalkeeper Uzoho Sets La-Liga Record In Debut Game For Deportivo La Coruna
October 15, 201704

Francis Odinaka Uzoho who was a part of the Nigeria U17 team of 2013 has gone into the record books of the La-Liga following his debut for Deportivo La Coruna in their 0-0 draw away to Eibar.

The Nigerian who was signed from Qatar based Aspire Academy one year ago was handed his debut starting in goal for the boys of Coach Pep Mel at the Ipura Municipal Stadium, the home ground of Eibar.

At 18 years and 352 days, the over six feet tall becomes the youngest foreigner to keep goal in the history of the La-Liga following his debut, where he showed no sign of a player playing his first top flight day.

Ironically the oldest foreigner to have kept goal in the La-Liga also did so while playing for Deportivo La Coruna, and that was legendary Cameroon goalkeeper Jacques Songo’o when he kept goal for them at the age of 40 years and 67 days in 2004.

Uzoho will no doubt be hoping to emulate the success of Songo’o at the club as he is now going to be the first choice goalkeeper until Reuben who is out injured returns.

Ogu Promises More Goals For Hapoel Beer-Sheva, Eyes Europa Win

By Johnny Edward:
Super Eagles midfielder John Ogu believes that there is more to come from him after he opened his Israeli Premier League goal account this season for Hapoel Beer-Sheva in their 3-1 win over Hapoel Ra’anana on Saturday.
Ogu sealed his side’s win in the 87th minute, firing in a fierce strike from the edge of the box after goals from Isaac Cuenca and Amir Khalaila cancelled out an early opener from Shimon Abuhatzira.
“It’s always pleasing to score and you can expect more from me as I have the license to move forward when we (Hapoel Beer-Sheva) attack,” Ogu told Completesportsnigeri.com.
“Expect more goals from me.”
Ogu also hopes his side maintain their momentum when they host Steaua Bucaresti in Thursday’s UEFA Europa League game.
Hapoel Beer-Sheva lost 3-1 to Victoria Plzen on matchday 2 after beating FC Lugano 2-1 on matchday 1.
“We have just one win in the group and we need to bounce back from that defeat to Plzen to stand a chance of getting out of the group,” Out, who has been in the Nigeria squad as they claimed a Russia 2018 World Cup ticket, added.
Hapoel Beer-Sheva are third in Europa League Group G table behind leaders Steaua Bucaresti with three points and tied with the same points and goals difference with second-placed Victoria Plzen.

quite impressive.

If he's consistent, he'll probably get a call up next month and the chance to feature against Morocco in the friendly.

At least since the team will be setting up camp in Morocco, NFF will not say they don't have money to fly in foreign based goalies this time.

Ezeji Backs Akwa United To Beat Tornadoes In Aiteo Cup Final

By Izuchukwu Okosi:
Former Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt star Victor Ezeji believes Akwa United will defeat Niger Tornadoes in the final of the 2017 Aiteo Cup at the Agege Stadium, Lagos on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The former striker feels Akwa United will be fired up by their Nigeria Professional Football League title loss and fourth place finish.
“For me Akwa United is a fantastic side. I’ve seen them a few times this season. I have seen Tornadoes play but in all, I’ll give it to Akwa to win Sunday’s final because they’ve got a crack team that play as a unit,” Ezeji told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“They have free flow of the game and so much flair in their side. Their target was to win the league title and having lost the third place spot in the Nigeria Professional Football League to Enyimba, they’ll be motivated to go for this Aiteo Cup title.

“Enyimba came from behind and took that third place from them in the league table so what a cracker we’ll have in prospect.”

Ezeji also spoke on his most memorable FA Cup final.

He said: “For my most memorable Federation Cup final, I’ll pick that of 2004 when I played for Dolphins. We defeated Rangers 1-0. I assisted Bola Bello’s goal and was awarded the MVP of the competition.

“That was memorable for me despite my good time at Enyimba. Some people wondered why I left Enyimba but I will never forget the feat of 2004 at Dolphins. I won a Peugeot Polo car and the N1 million prize money.”

By James Agberebi: Super Eagles forward Moses Simon is relishing the chance to represent Nigeria at the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Eagles confirmed their place at next year’s World Cup after pipping African qualifying Group B opponent Chipolopolo of Zambia 1-0 in Uyo last Saturday.

Simon was in action for the Eagles against Zambia before going off for goal hero Alex Iwobi.

The win took the Eagles to 13 points, six ahead of Zambia who remain second on seven points, while Cameroon (six points) and Algeria (one point) are third and fourth respectively.

Speaking after Gent beat Waasland-Beveren 2-0 in the Belgian top flight on Saturday, Simon said he is eager to feature at the World Cup just like every other player.

“I’m very happy,” Simon told Gent’s official website.

“The World Cup is the biggest football tournament everyone wants to play. I am therefore incredibly proud that I can play for my country.”

Simon was involved in Gent’s two goals scored by compatriot Samuel Kalu in the win against Waasland-Beveren.

Despite not finding the back of the net so far this season, Simon said the victory (against Waasland-Beveren) was more important than him scoring.

He said: “It was an important match for us, for the coach but also for the supporters. But we knew what we had to do and we showed that.

“The last matches we did not really have luck , but against Waasland, things went well.

“I just played my game, maybe I was a bit free than before. I could have scored, yes. But for me, that is not necessary. The victory is more important.”

And ahead of their next league clash against Abduljeleel Ajagun’s Kortrijk, Simon said their aim is to secure the three points.

He added: “We will take all the positive from the game against Waasland ahead of next week. We always go for victory in every match.”

quite impressive.

If he's consistent, he'll probably get a call up next month and the chance to feature against Morocco in the friendly.

At least since the team will be setting up camp in Morocco, NFF will not say they don't have money to fly in foreign based goalies this time.

I'm very happy that he made his debut today..
Let wait and see.. Am sure PAPI Rohr is watching...

CAF Confirm Morocco As New Hosts Of 2018 CHAN

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) have officially announced Morocco as the new hosts of the fifth edition of the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

CAF confirmed Morocco as the new hosts on their official website on Sunday.

The decision to give Morocco the hosting rights ahead of Ethiopia and and Equatorial Guinea, was taken at the Emergency Committee meeting of CAF on Saturday, October 14 in Lagos.

Kenya was initially billed to host the tournament but poor preparations meant they were stripped of the rights.

“The Emergency Committee of the Confederation of Africa Football, chaired by Mr Ahmad, met on 14 October 2017 in Lagos, Nigeria, and unanimously decided to grant the organization of the 5th edition of the Total African Nations Championship to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation,” CAF said in a statement on their official website on Sunday.

“The latter had been a candidate following the withdrawal of the organization of this competition to Kenya, which was decided on 23 September 2017 in Accra, Ghana, by the CAF Executive Committee, which, in accordance with the statutes and the deadlines, had the same day allowed the Emergency Committee to conduct the bidding process to select a new host country.

“The candidacy of Morocco was preferred to that of Equatorial Guinea, another country to have submitted a valid application.

“The Ethiopian Football Federation, which had also expressed its willingness to host the tournament, did not provide the government’s letter of guarantee, which is a mandatory document required by the rules of application of the Statutes of the CAF.”

The Total CHAN Morocco 2018, scheduled for 12 January to 4 February 2018, will involve 16 national teams composed exclusively of players playing in the national championships of their respective countries.

The home-based Super Eagles are one of the 16 teams that will feature at next year’s CHAN after they eliminated Benin Republic 2-1 on aggregate in the play-offs.

Thats weak. Trying to change or distract form their earlier position.

I've maintained that a coach deploy players not only based on their preferred roles. Their strengths and abilities, the way the coach chooses to play at any given point in time (formation and philosophy), the strength and abilities of the teammates. Other factors came into play. You earlier admitted Obi played once as an AM and that was 4,5 years ago. now you are trying to make the argument that he never played as an AM for the past 15 years.
I'm not going to go in with u or I'd start looking like a mad man.

Weak argument.
forgiveness:

How many coach has Joel Obi worked with in taining? Why none of them played him in the AMF for the past 15 years? shocked grin

Are you beter than all those coaches? grin

Now, let me answer the @bolded grin

Antonio Conte admits 3-4-3 wasn't his first choice formation

I want to believe this is the same player in UAE 2013 who was always caught by the camera with his funny expressions celebrating our goals from the bench, especially in that final game against Mexico. I stand to be corrected.

According to Westerhof. Someone who I know did it the right way and built one of the best squads on the World from Nigerian players.

As I said, a call for a screening process free of bias. Selecting the best in each role. Any other way is self deceit. Unless you can point out a better approach.
grin should I name for u top national team coaches that doesn't screen up to 500+ players before realising their squad list? ? undecided

Because westerholf did it, now every of his successor must follow suit?? When we can just call our best legs??
