The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Lagos State Chapter, Joe Igbokwe has given reasons the party at national level, cannot support young persons seeking to be Nigeria’s president.

The APC chieftain, who doubles as Chairman of the Lagos State Wharf Landing Fees Collecting Authority, said the young ones do not know the country.

Stating why the party would not support the “Not Too Young To Run” campaign, Igbokwe asserted that experience was required to hold a political post in Nigeria.

He also advised the youths to wait until they were old enough to hold political posts.

“When a young person is coming in, experience matters. The young person who is going to come, we want to know his pedigree – where are you coming from, what are you capable of doing,” he told SaharaReporters.

“If you pick a young person and make a governor, when he gets to that seat, he won’t know where to start from because you don’t have the experience and have not done that kind of job before.

“The young person cannot teach the old traditions; they should go and learn the trade because you can’t give what you don’t have. I will tell young people to be patient and not sound like a wailer.

“They don’t understand this country; the young ones are not seeing anything because they don’t want to see it,” he said.

First of all, the young people do not need the support of APC but without the support of 'the young people' - APC will amount to nothing!!

Secondly-and the most important of all-

When the 'old and experienced' start exhibiting acts of uber cluelessness that are capable of having malignant effects on the future of 'the young people ', then the onus falls on' young people' to seize governance and craft a Federation that will make their unborn generations proud to be called a citizen of that Nation.

Thirdly,
What is stopping 'the old and experienced' from taking 'the young people' under their tutelage and providing expert mentorship to them.
Infact, Mike Muddock once wrote 'why learn from experience what you can learn from mentorship?'

And lastly,
WHERE HAS THE EXPERIENCE OF THE 'OLD AND EXPERIENCED' TAKEN US TO?!.

Let me help you with some of the answers :

Recession... If not for the 'old and experienced', Nigerians would not know of Recession except on the pages of an Economics textbook.

Nigerians are now emphasizing their differences rather than their uniformity.

Massive looting of the Nation's treasury by, none other than, 'the old and experienced' while a greater percentage of the populace continue to wallow in poverty, penury and mediocrity.

What I have been trying to say since the inception of this epistle is this:
Anybody that says that 'the young people' are not fit for leadership because they are inexperienced should be stoned to coma, buried alive, then dug up and cremated before discarding the ashes in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Its a shame that the so called old experienced people have been in politics for too long to understand that leadership is different from politics. How old were these "old-expirienced" when first came into power? These docile politician will not stop exposing their ineptitude.

APC is fortunately no longer pretending to be a progressive party.

Fortunately for them they have an army of 'young' social media 'influencers' who are satisfied with the money and power that drops off the table.

Fortunately for them many other 'young' Nigerians think and act with their hearts and not their heads.

You people do not know what institutionalised mediocrity, ineptitude and propaganda look like.

APC is just warming up.

Although i don't agree with what this man is saying, i ask myself, "What are the young Nigerians doing about taking over power? Nothing."

We just sit infront of our laptops and complain all day. No party formation. Even if we don't have money, forming an online political movement cost nothing. But no, we wont do that. We would rather press our phones all day, calling ourselves names like Igbo and afonja.

Truly experience matters, yes young people with experience should vie for offices but if you are 30 and have never worked and think you will just be made governor then you are dreaming

Macron the French president at 39 is a successful banker. Trudeau the Canadian pm was in the legislature for years.

Presidency or governorship office is not for trainees

Sadly, I have to agree with the old man. This generation of young Nigerians is a disaster.

The only ones doing well are doing so in their private practices, perhaps to make money for themselves. Throw them into politics and entrust them with power and public funds and you'll see their true colour.

The "old cargoes" should continue "ruling" us until this generation is ready, biko!
