Alcatraz005: you've conclude on assumptions what you "think" is best for you..with regard to lagos state.. without proper research on the demerit of such action. you believe "as long as it hurt igbos..you're okay" one was even asking "why must it always be igbos reacting on matters like this..while other tribes are cool" they're not.. igbo don't pretend..if they're not okay with an action..they voice.. they don't take nor like bullshits..and are blunt.. what lagos state government is about to introduce will be the beginning of an empire and an end of the Oba dynasty. you guys are planning to yorubanise lagos.. others are planning to islamise lagos and install an emir.. between yoruba muslims have already made their demand known.. via restructuring position. |

oweniwe: Dont mind them, they have taken our hospitality for granted and they are spitting in our face. We would implement the law to the letter and see what the igbos would do. I best advice every igbo who doesnt want their kids learning yoruba to quickly commence plans to withdraw their children from school and relocate to the east. The igbos caused the LSHA to enact this law since they were fond of referring to Lagos as no man's land which angered every reasonable yoruba and brought out the innate clannishness in them. We are ready to go to any lenght to protect lagos from the covetious igbo. This is just the beginning. 10 Likes |

Guestlander: U ARE WASTING YOUR TIME, I WILL NOT PERMIT MY CHILDREN TO BE FORCED INTO SPEAKING A USELESS LANGUAGE THAT WILL NOT GET THEM ANYWHERE IN LIFE. ENGLISH IS A GLOBAL LANGUAGE AND IT ALLOWS ALL THE TRIBES IN NIGERIA TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY WITH ONE ANOTHER. IT IS OUR COLONIAL INHERITANCE. THERE ARE A FEW LANGUAGES IN THE WORLD LIKE ENGLISH, I.E. SPANISH, FRENCH AND PORTUGESE. THEY ARE GLOBAL LANGUAGES. |

This OP is either daft or simply suffering from the unceremonious disappearance of their Jewish Messiah the Lunatic Bleaching Yellow Pawpaw of the land of red mud and a fraud of a nation - Nnamdi Kunu. It is simple, tell your Igbo people that owns school in Lagos not to teach the language in their schools and see us shutting down such schools till eternity. A raye oshi. 13 Likes 1 Share |

oweniwe:The OP is clearly suffering from deep-seated cultural and linguistic insecurity, and is fearful that the allure of Yoruba civilization is so strong that no Igbo child given a linguistic entry-way into our culture will be able to resist the desire to completely assimilate! Nobody with the slightest self-confidence about the value and attractiveness of their own culture would be wasting so much time on an anonymous online forum, talking nonsense about filing lawsuits to block a policy that has already been implemented. I actually spent several years of my youth living in the north, during which time I picked up quite a bit of Hausa in school (which I've since forgotten), but it never occurred to me or my parents that I was somehow endangering my Yoruba identity by doing so: it's simply common sense, as well as a show of respect for the natives of where one lives, to learn the indigenous language. If Igbos are so scared that learning to communicate with the majority in their language will destroy their children's "Igboness", then maybe they should be asking how to make that Igbo identity more attractive, instead of wasting time tilting against windmills - there's simply no chance of this law being reversed in the future. 17 Likes 4 Shares |

Alcatraz005: Don't you see the irony of trying to force Yoruba language upon someone when everyone on this forum is using pidgin and english? If someone wanted a language with more national identity, Pidgin could be used - it's much less unfair than Yoruba enforcement. Remember that French was once pidgin Latin and only used in conversation until the French became proud of themselves, stopped calling it pidgin and started calling it French. The same happened with Spanish and Italian. The original French languages were Frankish and Gaul, both of which were mixed into the Latin slang that became French. Wetin more unifying for naija, pidgin or Yoruba?? |
