The end they say, justifies the means. We began the raising of CHI broiler chicks eight weeks ago. As a start, we stocked 50 but have 40 left. At this time, they have reached table size and are averaging 2kg-2.5kg-3kg.

We are now at the verge of selling them off to prepare for new stock against Christmas. Never did we know marketing will be this tough. We went to the market women and they were all calling very ridiculous prices that is not even up to the finishing cost of raising them. One came to see them but still called a bad price. There is no way of selling it to them.

Please if you have contact of genuine buyers(life/frozen) or if you are ready to buy please do well to reach out to me.

If you don't have buyers you will be running at loss. Those women can be so irritating. They price the chicken as if is a stolen item. I advise you try layers after Christmas if things have not change for good.

This is one of the fundamental problem in Agric sector in Nigeria.. production with no buyers yet demand for the product is high.

This is where the Ministry of Agriculture should come in by developing various Agriculture Business Clusters and partner with processors along the value chain to buy farm produce from these clusters at competitive guaranteed price throughout the year.

Farming is profitable and exciting with this model.

If you don't have ready buyer before doing broiler rearing, you will not like yourself. But if you understand what diversification is in Poultry business you will enjoy it.
You can process and start something like suya by killing like 3/day in evening and see the turn out.
You can process and sell life chicken unfrozen by killing like 5a day and see the outcome

@Memories12411 I wonder as well where they get the birds they eventually buy to sell. Their pricing is outrightly ridiculous and uniform. All the markets call the same price like they have an association that determines the maximum amount they must buy irrespective of the size, age and quality.

There really need to be a reform in the sector.

How much is a kilo of chicken in the market... and how much are you selling yours? The market women want to make a profit, so it doesn't matter to them how much it cost you to raise the chickens, it is how much profit they would make that they are inteested in.

They have an association that's why they are using a uniform price. The farmers don't make gains like those people buying from them. I will encourage you to try layers after Christmas so that you can switch to egg business. Better still, you can go into egg business which is more lucrative. You can make more than a hundred naira on each crate and you can sale more than 100 crates in a month which is good for a start. If you can have steady supply from the farm you are far more better than the farmers. I suggest you try the eggs.

Please hang up a notice in the area advertising your chicken for sale. That's how I sell mine. Those market women virtually ruined me in 2014.

Timely information.
Small scale farmers need to step up their game, there are various broiler contract farming all over the place with assurance of buying at maturity.....

- UI is buying in large quantities as stated above ...
- Amo has a broiler contract farming in South West ...
-Tuns has another program for broiler contract farming

10 small scale farmers in Oyo state rearing 200 broilers each will have an output of 2000 broilers per cycle when resources are combined and can join this program with no marketing headaches at maturity.
