I clamored for Enyema when Ikeme was comfortable between the sticks, and some people said we should leave Enyeama alone..
I clamored for Emenike at a point in time.
i think I almost made a case for Obasi if I can still remember. I argued that Osaze was not finished after all (that's wasn't clamoring).

Truth is after we qualified, I never cared about any of them.. but why una dey bring the matter sef.? if una bring the matter, I go talk, and I will remain objective.

Not during before the group stage...

Yes I remember you did... Enyeama case is different

Emenike case also different... He retired voluntarily
Osaze.. That one I remember you really lay alot of emphasis on his recall during the WC qualifiers... You know the reason cos he was performing in Indonesia league... And that's the last time we heard from him...

How old is the best current RB in the world Danny Alves

How old is the best left winger in the world arguably Arjen Robben

How old is the best player in the world Christiano Ronaldo Actually he is months younger than Obagoal.

How old is England's second most prolific striker currently Jermain Defoe is almost two years older than Obagoal.

Patrice Evra still plays as a RB for Marseille and has probably almost all thier games this season. We could add Bacary Sauna all still very much in consideration within the French National team. They are all over 34.

Some one made the irrelevant proposition about team dynamics and cohesion in the context of relationships. It's an issue but of little negligible impact and significance in the modern game. Players are there to be professional and not necessarily make friends.

The pertinent question is Martins better than the players who are in consideration Is the sacred one KC (for some on this forum) better than Obagoal.

Imagine Obagoal in Leicester would he do better Or imagine him playing in the Belgium league or the Eredivisie how good would he be currently. We aren not talking past glories but current, present and continous.

So let's bin the negative presumptions and objectively ask the question, particularly compared to players that are only have potential and may never ever get to the levels of Obagoal.

Then idea that he has done his bit to me is without any productive substance. What is his bit

I am not talking age. His bit his whatever he did from his debut till his last match. He's now history. Martins is not the best CF in the World. Let's rest this issue.

You don't seem to get me. I love Martins as a player, so I won't join the bandwagon of those who'd condemn everything about him just to make a point.

Personally, I'd rather we try out Dessers and see what he has to offer before considering Martins.

NB: I never said Martins is better than anyone.

Read my earlier post.

Here's what I'd say about this trending topic on Martins.

I believe in tactics and systems. If Rorh is considering some tactics for the WC and he thinks Martins out of the others would fit into his style perfectly he'd invite him and there's nothing y'all can do about it.

I doubt, this would ever be the case because if it was he'd have at least been considered even if it was to make the standby list.

So, I think this transcends Present form, Past glory, Quality of league and stats.

We really don't know the true quality Of Obagoal until tested. Put any of these players in his Chinese team and would they excel

My view is invite them to camp play a friendly let the best man come in, NO SHAKIN

I'm not against obagoal inclusion to SE... I will say it again iM a big fan of obagoal...

But if Rohr feels he can do magic than ighalo, nacho and Larrykay he should invite him

If he feels he won't disrupt his plan and game plan he should invite him
If he thinks it won't affect the team chemistry he should invite..

Currently ighalo is performing better than Martins in Chinese league

No we don't disband the team, but we work on our lapses. What top European oppositions may bring could expose other areas we did not see during the qualifiers, and it could expose some players as well -- those we became comfortable with.

Questions. For Example, if Ezenwa lets in a number of goals cheaply, will many of us not call for his head? I'm not even settled about Ezenwa. But that was just an example.

Icon4s:

Are you saying after the series of qualifiers thus far you can't tell the strength or weakness of the team?

Now, don't get me wrong I am not saying the Grade A friendlies are not necessary. Yes they are going to test the team in the different departments.

Rohr knows the strengths and weaknesses of the team and has been working on them all through the qualifiers. But saying we should wait to play Argentina before we know the strength and weakness is not the case. What if we lose 4-0 are we going to disband the whole team and begin afresh?

Besides after this window the next one is in March and we have to play AFCON qualifiers against Seychelles and we may just manage to squeeze in another friendly. And then the next window is for WC preparations/camping. So if you bank only on grade A friendlies , there is no much space for those.

Seychelles is not a grade A opposition but it can also be used for build up for the WC. All games are important, not only the grade A friendlies. That is my point.

if you must know. It is not the same Mikel

Nobody even remembers that your Martins played for the Super Eagles, that is how irrelevant he is to this set of players.

And the Mikel you know would not have bailed out the team in Brazil, he wouldn't have even been there, the Mikel you know would have bailed on the team with Enyeama and Emenike after that Musa debacle, that is the Mikel YOU know.....

However, the Mikel I know, the one who has learnt from age and experience and will certainly have more stories to tell these boys on how much one's behavior can shape their career is the ODOGWU, the leader cherished by team mates and fans. That is the Mikel that has influenced people and has transformed himself from a player we all seemed to loath to one we can't do without.

There are very few players who have the stories Mikel has and Martins is not one of them

We don't need to argue this coz their contract and endorsement are there for us to see,so need of trying to hype any player.

Pls tell me what make Martins richer than Mikel?

Mikel spent most of his time in Chelsea, I doubt he earned up to 100k weekly then.

Don't forget how harsh the tax system is in England, bulk of his pay would be going into tax. There might have been a decline since he obtained his British citizenship though.

Martins has been in the game even before Mikel, most of the countries he's played in, taxing is not as tough as England and that means more income, Mikel isn't earning much more than him presently in China.

Martins lives a more ostentatious lifestyle, so I might be deceived by what I'm seeing.

When it comes to endorsement, I don't really know.

Firstly, yes I played football in the generation when a number 10 meant Central Midfield position but I also know the number 10 position has undergone a transformation to mean playing behind a striker in a 4-5-1, or 4-2-3-1 or any other variant of 4-5-1. Football is dynamic, we recognise that and we have moved with it.

You don't need to be a great dribbler to play a modern number 10. Now, what is very important here is the system the team plays. For a team like Arsenal, Man city or Nigeria that thrive on possession football it is very important for a number 10 to be a very good ball passer and a creative player. His linkup play must be top notch. Dele Alli kind of number 10 fits into the way spurs plays. He will not thrive as a number 10 in a team like Arsenal, Wenger will play him as wings forward instead. Look at Ozil and Iwobi they are great ball passers.

Most national teams play possession football so most number 10 of national teams must be good passers and distributors

Once again you cannot compare the abilities of Dele with those of Etebo.

Etebo has only performed well as an AM at U23 level.
His best performances for the Super Eagles have been in the CM position.

That is why I earlier stated that at this level(I mean senior level) for the Super Eagles and the way Nigeria plays Etebo cannot be our number 10 where great ball passers like Mikel and Iwobi are in the team.

Even look at Etebo's performance against SA. The midfield was cut off completely from the attack due to Etebo's lack of creativity.

Like I have said many times, the mark of a tactical coach is your ability to use what you have well.

Now you said no national team plays that way. Let's look at Germany, their '10' is Muller, I need not tell you that Muller is probably going to be the highest goalscorer in the history of the world cup before he retires and what does he do? Creative? No. He just picks up the pieces and it is successful. When Muller does not play or when they do not play with a true 9(like when Gotze plays), Muller moves in as the main CF but that's for later. The point here is that Muller is the perfect definition of an Alli-esque playing performing very well for the best national team presently.

Now I am not saying Etebo should be our 10, no. But you made it sound as if Etebo cannot fit into our 10 role, you said he did it well at U23, and he has only been tried once in that position in the senior team, why not give him more time
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2023, 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Joebie: 11:12am On Oct 27, 2017
On the Algeria tie, considering your selection.
1. Echiejile's injury situation should give Aina the nod to start at LB. And even if Echeijile is fit, it's high time we gave Aina a full debut. Everything else in your backline looks perfect. No need wasting another sub slot in the defense.

2. Iwobi for Mikel is perfect.

3. Moses Simon in LW, and Kayode in RW.

4. Iheanacho for Ighalo as early as the 60th minute or so. Of course I expect that Kayode and Iheanacho can always swap.

On Argentina, considering your selection
1. The GK substitution should happen at half time.
2. Backline, perfect
3. The substitutions should happen around the half hour mark. This na real test for the players.. IT'S NOT A MUST WIN. Let Ogu get more game time.

How about handing Uzoho a debut against Algeria instead? We've seen much of Ezenwa at this stage. Let's see him more against Argentina

At least his time stretches from now into the future, not like some whose time have passed. And they say he works hard. Let him keep working hard. Now you are beginning to get my point.

I tell you that if Nigeria should lose to Argentina by as much as 3 -4 goals most fans here would clamor for the disbandment of the team. That's how Nigerian fans have always been.

I am also expecting Nigeria to be on the back foot especially the early part of the game. How we handle the first 20mins would be crucial.
The friendly will really stretch our team and thank God Argentina are coming with a full squad.
No shame if we lose to them but we must not be easily shoved away. I am not tipping Nigeria to win but the boys should play with a winning mentality.

I also agree about Ezenwa. I see him as a goalie that can easily chop up to 4 goals when we face a team like Argentina if the team should have a bad day in office. I said something like about Ezenwa easily conceding 4 goals before that defeat 4-1 to Ghana at the WAFU tournament. But after it happened as usual Ezenwa's faithful came for his defense.

Goalies have their bad days once in a while. But I am not completely sold out on Ezenwa. The only positive I get from him is his level of composer. But some times he over does it. Just look at that penalty we conceded against Cameroon.

Operation Capture German Youth Internationals gringrin

EXCLUSIVE: Germany-based younsgter ready to play for Nigeria.

International Edition By: Ayodeji Tunde | 25/02/2017

At 15 years old, Midhat Bajric is already carving a niche for himself in the round leather game, little wonder he has been nicknamed the new ‘David Alaba’.

Churning out a wonderful performance for the youth side of FC Nurnberg week-in-week-out, Bajric may just be the next big thing on Nigerian football scene as he is already one of the top-rated prospects in German youth football.

Already Nigeria football officials are said to be looking at the direction of Ademola Lookman at Everton and Chelsea loanee, Tammy Abraham

In this exclusive interview with .com from Germany, Midhat through his representative, Kennedy Chukwuodii opens up on his desire to don the Nigeria colours very soon even though he is eligible to play for as much as three other countries.

Excerpt.....

: Can you please tell us about yourself:

My name is MIDHAT BAJRIC, my father is a Croatian and my mother a German with a Nigerian father, possibly from Lagos. I am 15 years old. I started playing football when I was just 9. I was afraid of injury then, but my brother encouraged me to push even harder. It wasn't easy at first, so many young players like me and it has to be competitive. And the training becoming quite difficult at first but now I am very comfortable and enjoying it a lot.

There are reports that you are keen to play for Nigeria, what informed your interests and how has your parents reacted to your planned choice?

Yes, that has been my dream; I am white by skin but Nigerian inside. I am a Nigerian, I like to watch Nigeria football players, like Kelechi Iheanacho, John Obi Mikel, Ahmed Musa and others, so many of them. I want to say that I will be very proud to play for Nigeria and make Nigerians proud. My parents support my choice, though my parents are no more together but they still support my dream of playing for Nigeria. I want to visit Abuja, Lagos one day.

How much of Nigerian football do you know, and who are your role models?

I have been following Nigeria football, recently I watched them in Rio Brazil, I was so proud when they performed well. My role model is Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Moses, John Obi Mikel and so many of them I can’t remember their names.

What target have you set for yourself... Are you keen to start with the age grade sides or you have a tall dream of giving the Super Eagles a shot?

I would mind starting with the big boys, it depends on where I am called to represent, but if I should be gambled to the senior team, I play the game of my life to pick a place and make the coach trust me. But if I am called to play in the junior team, why not? I can grow from there. But German football is very strong, we are given big training.

Does the likes of Leon Balogun who was raised in Germany and now doing well with Nigeria inspire you in any way?

Yes, Leon is a very good player, in FSV MAINZ, He is quite a strong player, I look at him and I think I have got a chance in the Nigeria team.

What’s your favourite position on the field?

I am a central defender, that has been my position and enjoy it so much. I look forward one day to wear green white green. Maybe they will invite me, I don't know but I am so crazy about it.

Thank you for your time and all the best

The pleasure was mine... Thank you very much.

lol.. the guy too play..maybe that's what he does to calm tension. So he looks confident always.. WC is serious business, and I'm hoping he ends up as 3rd choice. Anyway not taking anything from him. He was our cover when we needed a GK most. At the end, we will say he had a hand in our qualification, and he deserves to go to the WC at least.

Now you are beginning to get my point.

I tell you that if Nigeria should lose to that Argentine by as much as 3 -4 goals most fans here would clamor for the disbandment of the team.
