I complained, threatened and reported to no avail. The day it reached my endurance peak. I said this to her face when I caught her trying to breastfeed my 4month old."my children will never suckling on emptiness and anyone who tries to give them emptiness, my God will descend on them and make sure they go empty" of course she took offence and claimed that I was cursing her but I did not care anymore. I told her to pray about it. Enough said that the parent objected yet you insist on doing it then you are up to no good. After that she never attempt it again. if it were to be my Mil they will call family meeting on our head by the time I am through

For me, I won't actually sweat over grandma putting breast in my baby's mouth, you have bigger fish to fry mbok.

To breastfeed a baby that isn't latching properly, you aand baby need to be calm, try it when he is hungry but not too hungry. Hungry enough to want to feed, not so hungry that he will be agitated.
Secondly, you need to be in the right frame of mind, fed and rested. And tell yourself it is not a do or die affair.
I have dug some pictures up for you, try to see if you can follow the steps.


Now I have 2 kids, the first was exclusively breastfed the second wasn't.
For the first, he visited the hospital at least 4 times in a year till he was 3. For all kinds of illness (malaria, boil, fever, infection, ear ache, chickenpox). His sister is 2 and the only time we went to the hospital was when her brother dashed her chickenpox.
Both were skinny, they don't start adding up till they're on the way to 3.
My first is smart, very but his sister shows promise of beating him by a long mile.

So don't beat yourself up over formular feeding abeg.
One more thing, don't take too long in making his food. He was probably crying inconsolably when mama chook the breast to silence him.
Always have a prepared bottle in a warmer a few minutes to when he is due for a new meal.

Please stop telling yourself that you have failed as a Mother. This is just the beginning of journey in motherhood and there's still plenty work ahead of you.

The paramount thing about taking care of a newborn baby is for the child to be healthy, happy and active.

Yes, it is true that mothers are encouraged to EBF but don't get it twisted when it isn't working for you. Thank God for the alternative of formula milk which works well in providing nourishment to babies. Maximise its use and be comfortable with it if that's what is working for you and your baby.

Again, you are not a failure. You are the best mother your child can have. Be in the right frame of mind to be able to give your child the needed support.

I’m all for respecting elders but sometimes they need to be spoken to for them to get the message.

This breastfeeding/formula issue is always a sore topic between new mums and their mothers but most especially their mother in law.

Did you ask your mum her reasons for breastfeeding your kids? I just don’t understand why it’s done.

He's currently teething, just cut 2 teeth, feeding well, no fever, playing well etc.
I've bought ORT and kept at home just in case status changes and I'm focusing on BRAT diet. Is there anything else I should be doing? Is there a need to go to the hospital?

Poo is loose but not watery (sorry for the TMI)

Sis, you need to pull yourself together. While breastmilk is best, formula fed babies are healthy as well
1. Stop crying
2. Make formula for your baby let him eat
3. Once both of you are calm, go to a private space, where no one will stress/distract you and try to feed your baby, put the nipple plus the black part (areola) in his mouth. Watch YouTube videos for a guide on proper latching. Don't try when he's too hungry so you both don't get worked up
4. To help yourself lactate better drink hot water (Jazzyjazz's remedy), hot pap also helps. You also need to eat well AND STOP CRYING. Your mental and physical wellbeing is important
5. You have nothing to be ashamed of, stop thinking that rubbish please

So that was how I decided to use today and celebrate my birthday in the office. I emotionally blackmailed hubby into agreeing to leave work today and go and order a cake and bring it to my office my first mistake. I already knew office people would buy me a cake but I wanted another one. He tried to bribe me by promising to transfer money to me so he wont have to buy the cake but i told him to buy the cake and transfer the change. That is how he went to buy cake and cuz the cake place didn't have a large parking space, he parked on the road and taskforce people decided to come today and remove all their number plates and asked them to go to mobile court. Thats how he was following taskforce people all morning trying to negotiate his way out of mobile court and finally had to pay them to get his plates back. Then he spent another time again fixing the plates again. half the day wasted, birthday budget gone to taskforce people's pocket, cake I did not get He said he was just about to pay for the cake before he was called to go check his car and he said it was a pretty cake . I blame it all on my village people. And they even bought me a nice pretty cake in the office unlike the ugly mess they bought last year If only i knew I wouldn't have bothered the son of man and made him waste his whole day and his money. Anyway I'm back in my birthday mood now, Sonofman still came around and brought drinks and snacks
