Mama please calm down. You have not failed. You are a first time mother and believe it or not, these things take time to get used to. Check your nipples, if they are inverted or pointing inwards, get a 10ml syringe, cut out the pointed part and place it on your nips then draw the tip (the way it's done by nurses when they want to fill a syringe injectible drugs). You will see your nipple getting drawn out. Stop when it starts becoming painful and immediately put your baby to the breast that the nip has been drawn out. Repeat several times in a day. By the end of the 3rd day , your nips would be permanently erect. If you are not lactating well, try pap, palm wine, oats, carrots. However, I would say supplement with formular until your Breast milk is fully established and you can pump at least 150mls from each breast then you can now decide to EBF if you want. olorimorenike: 1 Like |

@ kelizosuy. Babies poo more often in the first month of life, but if her poo is greenish, very loose or foamy/ catarrh like , pls head to the hospital tomorrow. Did she poo again after the third one u mentioned? The only way I know to prevent electrolyte imbalance in stooling is giving d child ORS and zinc but I don't know if a baby less than a month like urs can take it o. NB: just saw ur baby reacted to what u ate. She shld be fine by morning , if not, pls visit the Hosp and watch what u t for her sake pls. @ hunniesuzie , pls watch till morning if it continues , pls head to the hospital even if he is playful. @ Jina24, pls don't be scared, your girl will be fine by God's grace. 1 Like 1 Share |

kelizosuy: What u eat while ur still actively breastfeeding js very important as your child gets all nutrients from U. Anything that can easily upset ur stomach or make u purge is a no no. For now eat lots of fruits, vegetables and highly nutritious meals. Don't worry... The poop will run its course, but as u v seen d effect of what u ate, u can stop it for now. |

olorimorenike: I personally think you have a big issue on your hands to resolve. It seems her family were looking for where she can stay and be looked after and stylishly used the excuse of “helping you out as a new mum” to bring her in. Does she have a personal carer/maid looking after her or is that responsibility all on you ? I will suggest you try as possible not to leave her alone with your baby and you must be very vigilant. That said, you need to really relax, be happy and try to put all stress and worries behind you as this will help your milk flow. If you are stressed, tensed and unhappy, your baby can feel the negative vibes. Some women (like myself) do not have much luck with expressing milk but with baby sucking the breast directly, milk flows very well. I will suggest you feed your baby with formula and after she’s fed, put her on your breast and have her suck. It’s best done when you are sitting upright with pillows at your back and under your arms for support. Do this after every single feed as it will help her to master the art of sucking and she will also be used to the texture of your tips. Take a lot of hot drinks/meals (tea, oats, semo) and massage your breast with fairly hot water. Make sure you have her bottles, preboiled water, formula, etc ready and look out for signs that she’s ready for another meal. That way, she won’t be left hungry and wailing for the next bottle of milk. You can try making a note of the quantity of milk she’s had as well as the time as this will give you a good idea of her feeding pattern and you can estimate roughly when she’s due for her next bottle of milk. It took me almost a month to get my son to breast feed properly and also establish my milk flow. I went on to breastfeed him for over a year and I literally had to force him to give up breastfeeding. So do not worry. This is a phase that will pass. 4 Likes |

jazzyjazz: Very well done. Nice golden brown colour. Try banana bread/cake next time using very ripe bananas without sugar (if you intend giving your child) or with little sugar if it’s yourself and a child older than 12months. It’s very easy to prepare and you do not need a mixer. Check www.sisijemimah.com for her banana bread recipe. |

kelizosuy: Pele. Reminds me of when I would drink cups and cups of Ribena despite repeated warnings from my mum to stop as I was breastfeeding and she claimed I was passing on the sugar to my baby. On a particular day,my son pooed (rather watery) and she came to where I was relaxing, dropped the stained diaper on my laps and she told me to see/relish in my handiwork. That was the last time I drank Ribena (I resumed after he crossed 6 months sha). Watch what you eat. If the poo continues, you can give him homemade salt and sugar solution (3-4 spoons should do). If the stooling gets to number 5,you might have to take him to the hospital. |

kelizosuy: The best way of detoxifying the body is to do it naturally - using fruits. I think it’s best you wait till your child crosses 6 months and then you can do a fruit/veggie fast for a few days. Drinking lots and lots of water (especially first thing in the morning before you brush or have any meal) as well as reducing sugar intake and having fruits or vegetables or both at least once a day also helps. 1 Like |

Thanks @zaynie @twogreatnations he didn't poo all night but did a major one this morning. I'll observe till noon @spiceeamiee maybe try it during the day when you're awake a few times till you become comfortable. When you lie on your side, your lower arm is over her head it's the boob closer to the bed you give her. Put your head on a pillow and put her close enough that she can reach the nipple but not too close for flesh to cover her face I had to quickly lie in that position to remember these tips. Lol Kelizosuy have you been overdoing things again? What pain reliever were you given? Have you been taking it? You went through a major surgery, the amount of rest you give your body determines how fast you'll recover. Once your baby is asleep, don't clean/cook/do anything, just lie down and rest. If the pain persists even after taking your drugs complain when you go for dressing Zaynie and helovesme I'm sha gentle. I don't know what you people are talking about. But when an elderly starts behaving like a child, he can't be surprised when he is cautioned like a child. 2 Likes 1 Share |
