At least Shehu can complement Pinnick. He is the LMC chairman, so let's expect progress in the NPFL.
Thats the best. the NPFL needs to be powerful and ready to attract foreign footballers like from Brazil and co. Imagine Sunshine Stars supplying youngsters for age grade competitions at FIFA level. We need more good, hardworking Shehus.

ROHR’S FEAR OF BACKLASH HOLDS BACK EJIDE’S SUPER EAGLES’ RECALL

BY BOLAJI OKUNOLA.

Super Eagles’ manager, Gernot Rohr is still having headaches over the last line of his World Cup-bound squad. The goalkeeping department is still a source of worry for him. In the five World Cup qualifying matches he guided Nigeria to, the Franco-German coach made use of three goalkeepers.

Ikechukwu Ezenwa featured lately and most prominently in three of such matches while the duo of Carl Ikeme and South Africa based Daniel Akpeyi had a match each and conceded a goal in each of the encounters.

Ezenwa in three consecutive matches conceded just a penalty kick goal, away from home in the encounter with Cameroon in Douala.

While Ezenwa is just warming himself into Rohr’s heart, the coach admits he needs strong back up for the World Cup and also for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series which resume in March.

His desire to bring back a seemingly unwilling self-retired Vincent Enyeama appears doomed as feelers indicate that the Nigeria Football Federation is not inclined to the goalkeeper’s recall.

Yet, it is almost generally agreed that the Super Eagles do not have a goalkeeper that can grace the esteem stage of the World Cup. The team must have three goalkeepers in its final 23-man squad.

A source in the Super Eagles technical crew informed Sports Village Square that Rohr was thinking of recalling World Cup’s negative record holder, Austin Ejide. But the possible backlash from pundits has held him back.

Austin Ejide has been to three World Cup finals in 2002, 2010 and 2014 without seeing a minute of action.

After almost two years of layoff, he is currently back with an Israeli club, Hapoel Hadera. He last kept the goal for Nigeria in a goalless outing with South Africa in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in September 2014.

The inside source told Sports Village Square that Rohr was aware of Ejide’s experience but he was also worried by the goalkeeper’s lack of action which will possibly draw a lot of criticism that may also affect Ejide’s composure.

Independent sources told Sports Village Square that Ejide’s weight and increased size are additional worries. Last January, while featuring in a Joseph Dosu organized novelty match at the Julius Berger ground in Lagos, Ejide told Sports Village Square that his not getting a national call-up was due to his not featuring for any club side since he left Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel in 2015.

As at January, he still nursed a possible return to the Super Eagles’ fold if he was able to secure a contract with a club which he has since done.

His contract for the Hapoel Hadera is for three years. Before, Vincent Enyeama, Ejide was the first choice goalkeeper when the 2002 squad was disbanded after the turmoil that afflicted the Super Eagles at the Mali 2002 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ejide debuted for the Super Eagles on June 16, 2001 when he came off the bench as a substitute for Sunday Rotimi in an away 0-2 win for Nigeria against Namibia in an Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifier.

He was looking like a possible permanent holder of the number one shirt having featured in the pre World Cup friendly matches under Coach Adegboye Onigbinde.

However, Vincent Enyeama stamped his authority as a goalkeeper the moment he debuted on May 4, 2002 in a 3-0 defeat of Kenya in a friendly match in Lagos.

But in 2008, Ejide was preferred by Germany’s Coach Berti Vogts ahead of Vincent Enyeama at the Africa Cup of Nations.

But is he ready to bounce back again? In the encounter with him months ago, he told Sports Village Square: “I still wish to keep for the Super Eagles. All goalkeepers must be in top form before getting a national team call up. I am not under a contract with any club for now.

“No one knows what tomorrow or the nearest future will be. As soon as a get signed with any club then I will certainly be battle ready for the Super Eagles gloves. Nigeria is my country and I derive pleasure in staying between the sticks whenever I am called upon.”

Has the time come? The Super Eagles source said while Rohr seemed inclined towards, Ejide, the foul aroma over his inactivity may make the NFF to kick against his invitation.

Well I understand your argument. I'm just telling you the context I had when I decided to put the list together from the onset. It does not in anyway hinder the progress of the likes of Ndidi. I'm just explaining to you what I had in mind because considering all the players that took part in one way or the other towards qualification would require an extensive research . I'm keeping it strictly to those who participated at the world cup, because most of the time our eyes are on them to make progress after their excellent showing at the World Cup. So the likes of Ejaria, Ndidi don't come in.

Jacob Njoku? YES. Thank you for the correction. I will modify accordingly.

Thanks goodjoe for this interesting read but it is beside the point. Let me explain: to say a coach is not technically adept is different from the coach missing important details, making mistakes etc.
I remember that when I raised this issue it was somewhat of a consensus that Rohr needs technical assistant just like Westerhof had Bonfrere Jo. But this information shows that apart from the video analysts(interestingly an Algerian. Think our 3-1 victory) Rohr came with two other assistants one of which is a Brazilian. So my point is can we still say that Rohr needs technical assistants? Do we here know more than them?

The judgment goes to the approach on the field. Even if Rohr had ten tech assistants, we can not deny the fact that in the game against South Africa, there was deficiency in the reading of the game. Also some of our team play and coaching shows gap in the depth of our technical play.

Unless proven otherwise from our games, I will opt for a sound tactician to join the crew. My pick remains Amunike.

why does the CBs don't always progress well?

You can fill the defensive role with players that are not spectacular. Keep playing and training them and they will do well. So it takes a highly special defender from Africa to draw the attention of the foreign coaches.

England's coach Gareth Southgate is presently watching Arsenal and Swansea match at the Emirates stadium. He's trying to watch Tammy Abraham & Jack Wilshere before he releases his squad list for the friendlies against Germany & Brazil. Presently, Swansea are a goal up. I think he'll be impressed. Bye Bye Tammy.

In summary your problem with this team is fullbacks and CF.

Due to this u are recommending Taiye Taiwo,Obafemi Martins,Osaze Odenwegie,Ike Uche.

But why d old legs and not young ones like Stanley Amuzie, Ransome Madu as LB,Kayode Olarewaju, Peter Onwuachi as CF(9)

It's pretty much simple these so called old legs as you call them. Are tried tested and proven at the highest levels if football.

These young ones are mainly untested, unproven and yet to play anywhere near the highest levels of football.

Essentially these players have just one quality they are young. After that potential but not much else in comparison. So why not call all these potential and test them against the old legs. Because the current best RB in the world is Brazilian international Danny Alves who is 34. Or should we talk about Evra French international who is 36.

I prefer the best players young or old if you are good enough you are old enough.

God forbid amuneke work wit the super eagles...
amuneke is one man with so much knowledge of football but his greed is his problem...
he is someone I think is only after the money he will make and not the name and reputation he will get....

you can create a team and put him in charge of your team...and not super eagles ..

The same thing happened to Sammy Ameobi when he willingly came to U20 camp but Obuh said No,a month later d guy made his debut for Newcastle main team.

I remember Manu Garba gave a boy playing for Chelsea a chance in his team to UAE 2013,we need more of this from our coaches.

That's habib makanjuola... He gave him chance but he didn't play Single seconds throughout the tournament Why maybe he's not good enough or too young.

I think they have zero their mind on local base for u17 team...

Let see what finidi will do this time around

England's coach Gareth Southgate is presently watching Arsenal and Swansea match at the Emirates stadium. He's trying to watch Tammy Abraham & Jack Wilshere before he releases his squad list for the friendlies against Germany & Brazil. Presently, Swansea are a goal up. I think he'll be impressed. Bye Bye Tammy.
He had an assist and an offside goal today. Wasnt really effective.

This English U17 team is so unbelievable.

From 2-0 down to leading 5-2!

Never seen this in any U17 WC.

Humility017:

God forbid amuneke work wit the super eagles...
amuneke is one man with so much knowledge of football but his greed is his problem...
he is someone I think is only after the money he will make and not the name and reputation he will get....

please...I don't want him near the eagles...

you can create a team and put him in charge of your team...and not super eagles ..

I think people just generated the negative gossips about Amunike because he did not pick their players. Amunike put together a formidable U17 and U20 team. Won the U17 playing an intelligent brand of football. His U20 team went 35 games unbeaten. Unfortunately, the game his team first lost caused us the opportunity to qualify for the AYC.

He is a good and brilliant coach. Most of the criticism are just baseless accusations to the best of my knowledge. Now people do not want him coaching after doing a good job due to accusations.
