Why CIS and Not IGR Should Be The Focus Of Government Let's start by defining the terms for those who are not familiar with them. IGR: Internal Generated Revenue CIS: Citizen's Income Sources Now to the main subject matter It is funny how Nigerians celebrate the rise of the IGR of their states without taking into consideration that a State can have a steady rise in her IGR while her indigenous people suffer hunger eg South West states and the rising able bodied beggars and street urchins, IMO & Abia states and the rising unemployed graduates, South South states and the rising number of militants. Increase in IGR does not mean increase in the welfare standard of a state. The most important thing beside security that those in government should focus on, is to increase the CIS of her indigenous people. Government should focus more on programmes that can enable her people produce and sell whatever marketable goods & services they have to offer in order to increase their income. When people's incomes increase, it will be possible for them to take away so much burden from the government by providing for themselves some of those basic amenities like good community hospitals, schools, roads, housing etc. A country where her citizens depend so much on the government for survival, will definitely come to ruin with time. A wise country, empowers her citizens to take care of themselves and place less burden on the government. Lol this is nonsense. If a state is able to generate good IGR, then she'll be able to put down infrastructure to aid development. Citizens, no matter how much they have won't build infrastructure. It's like driving a Lamborghini on a terrible road. Pointless. I know you're saying it because eastern states can't generate IGR due to low economic activity, but just stop this make me feel good nonsense. It's not like the citizen income in the East is high. You can only bobo those who haven't been there. They are all market states. Trade alone can't improve an economy 20 Likes 5 Shares |

Rmxr: Not true. Nigeria IGR increased when oil wealth was fully exploited starting from the end of the civil war. Question for you Did our standard of living increase.? Is there any sign that our living standard will improve.? Think well. 1 Like |

A higher IGR will definitely lead to more Infrastructural Development in a State if the Governor or political stakeholders are sincere 7 Likes 1 Share |

If the citizens are buoyant as you people from that part of the country always claim, won't the government have enough taxable individuals to get high revenue? Again, this is pure balderdash 11 Likes 1 Share |

Nigeria has increased her wealth through oil first after 1970 and gas during OBJ's time. Has our living standards increase or decrease.? NigerDelta states have increased their IGR through 13%, has it improved the lives of the people.? Think Nigerians. 1 Like |

EternalTruths: Lol... What does your first sentence even mean If you don't tax, where will IGR come from . So your excuse is that eastern states have low IGR because the government isn't taxing the citizens. You people always come up with the most silly excuses lol. The purchasing power and individual wealth is low, hence the states are unable to generate enough via tax. Simple. I don't know the region with the most mud houses. If you have your stats, post them here. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

Citizen income sources ok. All that's well and good but that has more to do with business environment, upward mobility etc. Not many people using igr to measure wealth of average citizen so your premise is already off. We have stats like poverty index from UN and Cambridge (Which anabrans cry over yearly). It is funny how Nigerians celebrate the rise of the IGR of their states without taking into consideration that a State can have a steady rise in her IGR while her indigenous people suffer hunger eg South West states and the rising able bodied beggars and street urchins, IMO & Abia states and the rising unemployed graduates, South South states and the rising number of militants. IGR is about states ability to fund itself. As state becomes more sufficient they better able to provide infrastructure to enable development. Increase in IGR does not mean increase in the welfare standard of a state. Don't have an issue with the statements really but it has raised question. Has anyone actually sat down and looked at 5-10 year graph at trend? I'll probably look and see if there's correlation to be found. 4 Likes |

DrGoodman: Lol this one's brain is pentium 1 oh. Compare Lagos to any other state in Nigeria. Lagos IGR is being put into good use and that's why the state stays sucking the human resources of other states. There is a reason why everyone is running to Lagos including those from. Potopoto republic. They should be in their regions if their citizen income is high nah Funny thing is, Lagos isn't even generating enough for her size, yet the state towers above others. Tinubu is a business man. If you have any evidence the money goes to his accounts, show us 9 Likes |
