What is the point of argument here. I think is to have a good standard of living.weather u live in America or Africa is not about how much u have in ur bank account. Am a senior civil servant earning below 50k per month which can not even pay my children school fees per term. My wife is as well a civil servant own over six month salary. How do u survive in this situation. I have an old man who has not been paid his pension for over four years b4 he move than to this America to have a decent life. How many of u talking on this trend can afford a good life eg 24hrs of electricity, health care facilities, transport ,road and houses. This not abt how much u have in the bank. 12 Likes |

If you want to console yourself please find other measures pls don't go after America - it is not even close by any standard. Take it from someone that spends at least 2 months in Nigeria yearly and mixes with the high and the low. 1 Like |

So why are they coming back to head something in Nigeria? maybe cos they couldn't head nothing in America. Even Ngozi was a servant of the globalist. She is not global in anyway. Just like Koffi Ananan who was a figure but didn't have any single power. These whites knows how to fool Africans. They put one or two of our faces to paint an illusion that we are progressing in the western world. SIRTee15: 3 Likes |

timesup234: Please stop posting rubbish out of ignorance. Who told you people who make $57,000 annially can't save a thousand dollars monthly? If you think all nigerians living in america are doing menial jobs, then you need to get some knowledge. There are niherian doctors who earn over $400k here but doctors in nigeria live like church rats. 3 Likes |

Even in Nigeria skill is required to survive without skills one will merely be managing so, I believe same applies irregardless of the clime or boundary. Gain skill be able to do something. Except the back ground is well to do. Haven't been to Lagos even, in actuality I realise that better things lie out there and the most deserving are those who work their asses. 1 Like |

timesup234: How long would it take you to save up 250k for rent from a salary of 80k per month when you have to take care of your family's feeding, medicals, and attend to other pressing needs? While you are trying to make a valid point about the unknown bitter truths about the American society, I think everything has been over exaggerated by you. A worker doing menial job in America has access to the best healthcare even an NNPC Manager here in Nigeria would find difficult to access. No need to worry about unnecessary expenses incurred for powering the household generator whenever there is power outage. There is efficient transport system to move you from one point to another, good roads that are devoid of potholes, good and efficient security system. The only reality about living in America is that when you are an undocumented immigrant is when you live the kind of life you are trying to paint about living in the American society. As an undocumented person, there is a limit to the type of jobs you can do. The truth is that things are not easy in America as you have to work your way to the top unlike our system here in Nigeria, but reality is, there are uncountable million opportunities in America which you can leverage on to be whatever you want to be in life. 7 Likes |

olawonder: Why would anyone want to even compare a bank manager to a menial worker? Is that how much we have little respect for the professionals in Nigeria? Why can't he compare the bank managers in Nigeria to other Nigerians who are bank managers abroad? Nigerians are holding top positions worldwide, so I'm sure we have some bank managers who are Nigerians in America. 5 Likes |

Pidgin2:If America was as bad as you make it sound, why is the whole world trying to move there? There is no comparison between America and Nigeria except that the later is your home country. If you want to work in America, you will find something though you may not like it, but at least you are earning an income. Can you say the same of Nigeria? If a person earning menial wage in America is able to save part of the money and come to Nigeria, those funds are worth more than what many civil servants earn in Nigeria. That is why many Nigerians in America support their families back home in Nigeria. 1 Like |

Op stop deceiving yourself ok...yes its true.nigerians who do menial jobs in usa are richer than some bank managers here in Nigeria..I.e The minimum wage of us workers is $10 per hour and lets assume someone works for 8 hours that will amount to $80 per day.Now calculate $80 X 7 days in week that will amout to $560 every week $560 x the four weeks we have in a month is $2240 convert to naira is 813,120 now how many bank managers receive dat amount of money before tax in Nigeria? After tax and oda expenses ur take home salary is 600,000 monthly how many bank maangers receive such in Nigeria and dnt forget I calculated dis based on a minimum wage which is 10$ per hour in some work places they can pay u above the minimum wage cos in usa states have control of minimum wage so depending on d state u are in usa ur take home salary can be up to 1million monthly after tax..some offices pay as high as $ 15 hour...I hv not even mentioned overtime. |

moonraker: Abeg use a word other than hustle. That is the issue. Most people talking about how bad the West is only know people who went there to hustle. timesup234:So i am left $41000 after i saved $10000 on what. Rent can come as low $700 to $1400 for 1 to 2 bedroom depending on the area in chicagoland which is $16000 anually not over $20000. Luxury appartments cost $1700 upward in chicago. I do not have a buy a new car i can save money by getting a fairly 2-3 year used car which can last long with no mechanical issues apart from oil change.Top basic amendities cannot be more $3000 a year. My bro it is possible to save $10000 to $15000, it is called managing and not going beyond your boundaries. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Tsk tsk tsk! Na so. I am sure that standard 1 bedroom of $1700/month is equivalent to a luxury 3 bedroom apartment in Lekki here in terms of the environment, amenities etc... So the Nigerian in the US can go for substandard at $700 - $800 and still live better than most people living in the same type of house in Lekki. Also, this comparison is lopsided because the OP is comparing someone working 40hrs/week in the US to a bank Manager in Nigeria. Most bank managers work sun up to sun down and must still network at night to keep clients happy and bring in customers. That's about 12 hour days here - 60 hours a week, and let's not forget Saturdays too. A typical Nigerian employer cares not about overtime and in today's clime you should even be thankful you have a job. Your comparison should be if based on a Nigerian in the US working 60-70 hours a week doing menial jobs to a bank Manager in Nigeria. On another note, there are a lot of opportunities to earn more from the comfort of your Sofa in the States. You can blog, YouTube, Earn free cash on mobile apps, take surveys, participate in clinical trials, etc... to supplement your income and you get paid real time. As a matter of fact, a lot of Nigerians are freelancing on the Web for US companies {Thank you Technology) and earning from there even though there might be payment processing limitations. Talkless of someone who lives in the States and can access these services without restrictions. Tell me the kind of opportunities like this that are available to Nigerians? And lastly, just how many bank managers are even in Nigeria sef? Are they the only ones that are supposed to build a house? What of the remaining people that do not earn up to half of what a BM is earning? BM's are just a small number of people in the multitude of poverty that Nigeria is wallowing in and given a chance, they will take the menial jobs in the US to the BM job in Nigeria where you have to kiss a lot of ass, wake up early and close late at night, have little to no time for family because you are almost always in traffic and get home late when they are asleep, buy fuel and service generator, buy bottled water because the tap water is tainted, pay ridiculous estimated bills whether there's light or not because one PHCN Madam is delaying the installation of your meter until you settle an exorbitant amount or buy a meter (which is free) at 30 - 100k, pay ridiculously high fees to private schools because public education system is dead... Chaii... biko don't get me started this Sunday afternoon. 12 Likes 1 Share |
