Imagine traveling from Lagos to Abuja in a Toyota Sienna minivan and the driver parks to pee at Benin bypass.. And the next thing, the vehicle starts to roll-away with the passengers inside.  

That the exact issue 2005-07 and 2009-10 models of Siennas are having. The problem is, the gear lever of some of the vehicle can shift out of park position without pressing the brakes.. and this can make the vehicle roll-away especially when the parking brake is not engaged. This is a family vehicle that doubles as school buses in Nigeria.. Therefore, it has a responsibility of keeping the kids safe.. which it has fallen short of.

In order to fix this, Toyota would replace the shift-lock solenoids and this process will commence from 1st of December. 

If your Sienna is beginning to show signs of this problem, make sure you get it checked pending when the recall gets to your side.

Those recalled cars are on their way to naija as we speak. People should stair clear that vehicle.

same thing that happened with the toyota camry, 2007 to 2009 flooded nigeria and people don't know how terrible the engine is

Wow and I hoping to get this car because my increasing family, my salon car can't contains us any more for family movement. I was thinking of getting this or an Odyssey but settled for this. Now am having a second thought. But this car full Nigerian roads and they are using it without problems... .

I don't think that problem is something we experience here in Nigeria, I'm not disputing the fact that it's not true. If you see a good engine with nice body (I mean sienna minivan), go for it. From personal experience, my dad used the minivan (not sure of the model year year though) between 2010 and early 2013 before selling it off at almost the price he got it and it never spend 6 hours at the mechanic's workshop not to talk of days and it was very economical. He travels at least 5 to 7 times in 2 weeks. He sold it to get a Lexus SUV. Again, in late 2015, my mum changed her salon car to the same sienna, which I'm so sure it was from dad's recommendation. If the vehicle has made him pass through hell, I'm so sure mum wouldn't go for it again.
So forget all this story and go for it

The car is solid, i use 2004 model XLE, mehn it has got speed n beauty just try the XLE limited, reverse camera, seats are foldable to give enuf room to park wat u like, ask transport companies for details n y dey like it.

Now i see d reason y transport companies use mainly 2003-2004 mayb 2005 but not 2006-2009 but den dey have started using 2010 to 2013 model me am thinking of upgrading to 2014 model
