Former Vice President Alex Ekwueme is being treated for Neurosurgery at the Intensive Care Unit of Memfys Hospital in Enugu state.

Reports say the 85-year-old collapsed at about 2am on Saturday at his home in Independence Layout, Enugu.

Ekwueme, who celebrated his birthday some 10 days back, was said to have gone into coma after collapsing.

“He was trying to get something from the table when he suddenly collapsed and immediately someone raised the alarm, we proceeded to revive him while cautious enough not to attract neighbours,” a relative, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told the Punch.

“When it became obvious that he had lapsed into coma, we rushed him to a hospital (unnamed) in GRA (Government Reserved Area), but we were referred to Memphys Hospital by medical consultants who had critically examined his condition.”

Speaking further, the source said the family kept the development secret with the hope that Ekwueme would “miraculously” come out of coma.

“When there was no sign of improvement on Monday afternoon, we rallied round and informed the former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, who is like a son, and he has been making plans to fly him overseas.”

Get well soon Sir,

A true patriot. One of the few Easterners living, who do not see people by what tribes they belong to. I will kill a Capon to celebrate, as soon as i hear your health is back to normal.

The East and Nigeria needs somebody with a calm voice like yours now.

Pls recover fast. We need our elders to age gracefully and not pass on from ill health.

God bless Nigeria.

Tell me one yoruba living or dead who doesnt see people for the tribe they belong.

Contrary to popular opinion, the widely travelled igbos are the least tribal in Nigeria.

And one thing about igbos? When they migrate to your place, they assimiliate ur culture and language no matter how dirty or backward it is

Show me one yoruba who speaks igbo and i will show u 1000 igbos who speak fluent yoruba

Peter Obi is always like a son to people who are about to die and from whom Obi is about to reap some benefits.

Don't waste your time on Afonjas, they are the most tribalistic people on this earth. If you watch no poster mention tribe or anything tribal until he arrived. As soon he sees he is not yorubaa, he injected tribe. Tribalism was invented in Nigeria by Yorubaa when Azikiwe won election in SW; and they denied him. This was a time when a Fulani man was a Mayor in Enugu state; Igbos could care less as long as you can do the job.

Lol,

It shows you are indirectly being colonised by your fellow Nigerians. Language is always the first instrument of domination, it makes you think and behave like your colonisers. The French and English have proven this fact.

You never see anything, after Lagos, all SW states are going to pass laws mandating all your children to learn Yoruba by fire by force. grin

And what would Nigerians have done to speedily return him to full health? He is just one man. Many Nigerians die daily and no one makes a noise about it. Ekwueme is just one man.

He is still one man. 'Informing' Nigerians about his ill health wouldn't have done a thing.

It is only in this part of the world we celebrate politicians and still fix them to the position they vacated.

When Ojuku was ill, this same Peter Obi was called and he refused to do anything. Mike Adenuga a Yoruba man had to pay for an air ambulance to fly Ojuku out of Nigeria to a foreign hospital. Mind you, even Bianca refused to assist.

This same Adenuga's company sponsors the Ofala festival where your pauperized fathers go to fight for T-shirts and ballpoint pens. Yet, you keep hating.

You call Yorubas backwards and dirty but no man from your lineage is deemed successful until he has come to the SW to eat Amala and prostrate.

You lot come here to talk trash about Yorubas but we just sit back and smile. It's just a subconscious knowledge that we're multiple times better than you and we represent achievements that you can NEVER reach. You Igbos are our property and we own you.

Peter Obi is the person who put the health of the elder statesman at risk by taking him around to campaign venues. So it is only fair that he also bears the burden for whatever happens to the man. Who even knows whether they want to use the old man as sacrifice to win at all cost?

When Ojukwu was dying, Bianca was getting her "Upper Iweka" serviced by a flatheaded Osu outcast.

At that same time, Obi left Ojukwu to die so that he can take over the structures of Apga.
