orisaoko:No offence but your solution can work for any number. All you're doing is 8+17-32+17= 8+32 = 40. So the number '17' is irrelevant by your logic. It could be replaced with anything and it'd still work. |
Re: Can You Solve These Quantitative Aptitude Questions? by AlfaSeltzer(m): 11:24pm On Oct 28, 2017 |
shadow88: Your "solution" would be true of any set of three numbers so is not the answer. |

cummando:uncle sorry you are wrong... please explain your logic... are you saying the lowest odd number between 8&32 is 17? aren't 9,11,13,15......29,31 odd numbers |
Re: Can You Solve These Quantitative Aptitude Questions? by Nobody: 11:33pm On Oct 28, 2017 |
PrettyHelen: the answers are 9 and 16 respectively Explanation: Right! This is a very elementary question. The trick is that all the DIGITS must add up to 7 or 14 or 21 or any multiple of 7. N.B: Digits (not numbers) for the first example: 8 + 1+7+3+2=21 for the second example:7+4+3 = 14 for the first question: 7+5 + ? = 14 or 21 The answer is 9 for the second question: 1+0+4+2 + ?+? = 14 . The answer can be 160 or 16 or 61. Going by Example 1, 16 is more appropriate. Notice the trick in how the options for question 2 were 62, 26, 16, 61, 160. This is a give away, to let you know that we are simply playing with the arrangement of digits and not necessarily anything mathematical. Cacawa2: Your solution gives 3 possible answers. So not correct. |

AlfaSeltzer:Read the explanation properly. The solution is correct, but you have every right to disagree. Cheers |

After lots of scrutiny,I came up with this 32-17=15 15-7(The second digit in 17)=8 42-26=16 16-6(the second digit in 26) This doesn't apply for the second example so I concluded that the question containing single digit should be treated with the second example and the question containing double digit should treated with the first. so;41=12 and 42=26 #mathsmanipulations |

Re: Can You Solve These Quantitative Aptitude Questions? by femi4: 5:22am On Oct 29, 2017 |
PrettyHelen:The addition of the digits must give you a multiple of 7 Example1: 8+1+2+7+3=21 Example 2: 3+4+7=14 Now, let's solve question 41&42 41. 5+7+ X = 21 X =9 42. 1+0+4+2 + X = 14 X=7 =1+6 = "16" 160 and 61 are incorrect cos the digits is a two digit no and were arranged in "odd even" or "even even" format . No "even odd" 2 digits no allowed |

I think when the two number at the top are even, the one down will be odd. And if the two numbers at the top are odd, the one down will be even. The second exercise obeys the rule but the first doesnt. |
