komekn: Rohr knows more about Youth football in Europe that you. He has worked in the system for decades, worked with respected names in the game, trained coaches and worked with quality scouts. Give it a rest. You can not teach him about European scouting of quality talent. He already proved you wrong with his assessment of Shehu and Awaziem which is far from your understanding of the game. TheGoodJoe: just because Rohr is the coach doesn't make him all knowing. You'd be suprised that Komekn knows the youth system more than Rohr does. Wait sef, you were the one that said something about Villas Boas teaching an older coach a thing or two when you were trying to defend your point that a coach may not know everything, now that Komekn is following thesame path you are now claiming the coach knows more than all of us. safarigirl:Sure everyone got their preference. My post was directed to him cos I perceived an undertone putting the guy down. I get on slowly with players although sometimes I go fast with my call for a particular player but generally I don't do so. If not that our attack looks to me like it's lacking something that I feel Tammy could provide I'd probably not get on board calling for him. Of all the British born players who could play for us he's the only one I joined my voice for his invitation. Dessers case is disturbing but he should keep doing his thing and take it a notch higher. It's even Rohr himself that convinced him to play for Nigeria(at least based on his say so that I read on premium times) so I really don't know why we've gone silent on him. |

Mujtahida:Thanks, the issue of players invitations is something that only coach can answer and sometimes football administrators even populace influences coaches decision. The populace made sure Peter Rufai was recalled to national team towards Afcon & US 94 despite having Deportivo LA Corunna number 1 Winfred Agbonavbare as Super eagles number 1,fans don't want to see Agbonavbare in goal, they agitated for Rufai returned and funny enough Rufai for some years was clubless. Westerhoff need to succumb to fans pressure and recalled Rufai believing Rufai must be special, he engaged a goalkeeper trainer to shape up Rufai back to form but i w not deceive you Agbonavbare was better just too glaring keeping in LA liga week in week out and people are agitating for Rufai who was just coming back. If u ask me what was Agbonavbare offence,a match he conceded 5 goals in 80s in local match, all those goals wasn't his fault but Nigerians termed him Agbonibasket. It was even surprising when Nigerians find him in LA liga doing it well and honestly a better and improved Agbonavbare. Honestly at Afcon and US 94 we don't need Rufai again with emergence of Agbonavbare but Westerhoff need to listen to fans yearnings. In such situation like this what do we say 5 Likes 1 Share |

Kog45:Yes I heard about Agbonibasket. And if not that you saying it now I look at him as a basket. Mind you I never watched him in any of the matches he featured for but that label of Agbonibasket has stuck in my mind. That's the power of tags and labels. Once they stick, you are marked for life especially if they are negative labels. Even if you do otherwise than the label people will still pin it on you. Rufai had the appeal. Some have that luck. Imagine your saying that pressure made Westerhof to recall Rufai in those days of limited media exposure. How about today in this time of social media. In a minute huge pressure can be brought on anything. The clamour will be so loud and unrelenting so much so that if you are not strong you will act contrary to your own desires. Today just about anybody can get into your personal space. We are at an all time high to exposure and we are still pushing the boundaries. Until man can read the thoughts of his fellow man like a book he will not rest. And even now the technology is available. It has not just filtered down to the people. But in time it will. 1 Like |

Mujtahida:Yes Rufai best was in the 80s(afcon 84&88)after missed Eagles set up in early 90(Algiers 90)Rufai lost form, went back to school but fans still believe in Dodo forcing Westerhoff to called him,the same thing happened again at France 98 after injury to Shorunmu a holiday Rufai was called back,i don't think any Nigerian players enjoy this appeal from fans. |

oloriooko: Nigerians are just too emotional and we even see it here on this forum just like folks abusing rohr for not inviting their own players. The Tammy debate was unnecessary in the first place and we don't learn from the past, were we not here when sidney sam, jordan ibe and the rest dished Nigeria too? I will also blame those even here on this forum who promotes these players as if they are angels. We Nigerians are very emotional and we should be careful how we hype these players and try to force them to play for us when they are under pressure. Let's leave it to the coaches and nff to make the final decision on these players. Nigeria will continue to be blessed with a pool of gifted players that can never run dry. What do we want countries like mali, dr congo and senegal to do who keeps loosing very highly talented players like water to countries like France and co. The day I heard Ngolo kante was from Mali, I screamed, only God knows what would have happened if Kante was a Nigerian, we may perhaps be thinking of bombing France by now, abeg make we chill o! 4 Likes |

SerVik: Dele Alli left league 1, MK Dons straight to the premiership at only 19 and with top speed to the England senior team. Gomez at Liverpool left Charlton Athletic (league 1) straight to Liverpool first team at age 18, Ademola Lookman left Charlton Athletic straight to Everton first team. Calvert Lewin left Sheffield United straight too Everton first team. Why because they were outstanding players in those leagues. I could go on and on. Fred Onyedinma at the tender age of 17 was awarded MOTM in the championship with Millwall. At this stage Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Man U, were all trying to sign him. His agents and Millwall messed up the transfer. Otherwise he would be in the EPL and his development would have taken a different trajectory. He currently is in the Championship with Millwall rejecting moves to other EPL clubs in favour of staying. See below links to substantiate my claims as not just my opinion. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/fa-league-cups/tottenham-vs-millwall-fred-onyedinma-on-being-back-of-neil-harris-new-local-generation-a7621936.html http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/watford-eyeing-move-millwall-winger-9720002 https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/309464/Arsenal-to-fight-off-Manchester-City-and-Liverpool-for-Millwall-starlet-Fred-Onyedinma I never ever reduced the standard but when a player proves his pedigree. As we say when small pikin wash hand, he go follow king chop. When Tega had his first few weeks in the championship if we had invited him to the SE. Would we be having all this talk about him insulting Nigeria. We jumped on the bandwagon after he had blown up. It's obvious you haven't watched Fred Onyedinma play. Watch his game in the FA cup against Tottenham and you go change mind. I will talk of a Ghanaian origin player Tariq Ofosu, watched him as a teenager when Hope Akpan was at Reading Fc in the EPL then. I immediately pencilled him as outstanding quality. Unfortunately he was sidelined and other players pushed ahead it's football politics. He is now in Charlton watch what happens in the next few months. You can be in a lower league and stand out or just get lost. It's actually very difficult to play technically proficient football in a predominantly blood and guts, kick and rush league. But when you do you know it's a quality player you are seeing. It's easy to look good when you have top quality players around you. Finally, Fred Onyedinma was born in Nigeria and played in the same local team as Iwobi. If he had chosen Arsenal maybe his development would have been different. |

On a more serious Note, I think Forgiveness is really crossing the Line with his Allegations and Submissions. He's not the only Yoruba Man commenting or visiting the Thread on daily Basis. I would advise him to stop referencing to certain Section of the Country getting more Recognitions for the National Teams Call ups, coz we actually do not need it. This kinda Reasoning is very absurd and he's given some to tag him a Bigot. Its very unfortunate matured Men are engaging him in this kinda Discourse. It's better Forgiveness is ignored than engaging him on tribal Issue. We are all Nigerians, thus we should be less-concerned with who is repping us in the National Teams. It actually makes no sense asking for equal Representation in the National Teams, coz its simply translating to DISUNITY in the Country. President, SGF, COS, majority of the Service Chiefs are from a Section of the Country, does that mean there are no better Heads than them?! I advise Forgiveness once Again to please stop causing DISCORD from the tribal Point of View. I'm ain't saying he's a Bigot, rather advising him to quit toeing the Path. I expect the Thread to be discussing and analyzing our Chances with the List, instead of this incessant Discourse. 6 Likes |

I'm not looking at Tammy's case as a loss but I see it as advertising the NFF and Nigeria as a country without plan to nurture and develop its talents. I dare ask if England do not v good footballing structure like Nigeria would we be able to find talents to pick from them? Until we start building structures that will help develop young talents in the country we would keep getting snubbed. I expect the NFF to move into action by putting in place programs that will ensure progress of youth team players from the u13 to u23 into the NT, that is what the English Fa has in place that is giving all these boys with dual nationality a chance at playing national team football by showing what they can do. I dare say that the u13 and u15 teams we have is not enough, players from the u17 find it difficult to get into the Super Eagles talk less of u13s and u15s, the NFF should find a way to ensure progression so that we can produce our own talents this would enlarge our pool of players. I am afraid that if we fail to qualify for 2019 u17 and u20 world cups, the next decade after the 2022 WC would be worse than what we had in 2011 to 2017(excluding the WC in Brazil and 2013 Afcon win) and the reason is not far fetched - we would struggle to produce top quality players. in 2011 we didn't go for the u17 in Mexico, we only carried the few useful players from 2009 u17 and the u20 in Colombia into the National team and some veterans. no one can say this is one player from that 2011 u17 team that failed in the NT or still active, (that doesnt mean the team didnt v players who sould be important to the NT in d future) but there was nothing to help them progress to mk things worse we didn't qualifi 4 the 2012 Olympics. the same for this 2017 u17 set. now if we don' t qualify for these age group world cups for a long time how would we manage to have players-Top quality players for the National team? The league which is supposed to absorb these players and keep them engaged is not even up to the stage where it would improve the abilities and also maintain its talents. The few quality players keep moving out very fast albeit into backwater leagues. the few shinning lights from the 2017 u17 set like Nazifi Yahaya may fizzle out if he is not engaged or attached to a club and worse for players like him the u20 also failed to qualify, even the 2015 u17 team, their failure to qualify for 2017 u20 is jeopardising the careers of some of the players from that set. MY POINT IS LET NFF IGNORE THESE DUAL NATIONALS ONLY FOCUS ON THOSE WHO ARE N SHOWING INTEREST and DEVELOP A STRUCTURE TO START HARNESSING THE TALENTS IN THE COUNTRY. We v many Alabas, Allis and Tammy in the country. 2 Likes |
