in as much as God asked Christians not to argue concerning his words ( 2 Timothy 2:14), i will make an exception for clarity purpose. in Malachi 3:10, God asked us to bring our tithes and offerings to his storehouse or temple...(we all know this refers to church) as temple in the bible is used to describe either our bodies as Christians and/ churches. It is your duty to obey this not to question how it will be used. God is God Himself and does not need your help to fight or punish pastors that use tithes for their selfish reasons . Can't remember God recruiting your services when He punished Eli for the sins and atrocities committed by his sons Hophni and Phinehas ( Didn't see your name in the Bible as God's executioner ).
If you simply don't want to pay your tithe because you have an opinion about tithing please don't pay and keep it to yourself ...don't drag others or lead them astray because of your opinion for ROMANS 14:21 SAYS....."Don't do anything if it might cause another person to stumble...you may have the faith to believe that there is nothing wrong with what you are doing, but keep it between yourself and God....for you will be sinning"
Hence, if you believe that not tithing or bringing your tithe to church is the right way please keep it to yourself and God ( you don't owe anybody any explanation neither do you have to convince another person to accept your opinion) ...because from the bible verse stated earlier...if you you lead another person astray with your believe you are sinning.
i rest my case
God asked us to bring out tithe to his house and store , how dose this mean giving it to pastors?

Go to Judaism and see how they tithe then come back let's talk

If i quote verses from the OT, you will scream it's Old Testament and Jesus has cleaned us from it but he didn't remember to clean Malachi which Pastors use to collect tithe and he also forgot to clean Proverbs and other verses used for their advantages. But when inciteful verses are quoted then it's becomes OT even when Jesus said in Luke 16:17 that every law will come to pass
Also read Matt 23:23 and please read the whole verse ...down to where Jesus said Yes you should pay your tithe ( that's a new Testament scripture..Right?)...don't read it like Daddy Freeze who selected only the first part which suits his argument. i still recommend you read Romans 14 :21-23....so that you will understand the implication of leading others astray with your opinion. keep your opinion between you and God as instructed in Romans 14:22 so you don't lead others astray

Nobody is leading anybody astray. Did Jesus ask tithers to pay in money?

Secondly, why would you quote a verse to suit your narrative and when I quote another verse from the same book, you scream old testament?

No one said tithing was not commanded in the Bible. The problem here is who the tithe be given. Pastors where never mentioned. In fact tithe was to be eaten by tithers in the presence of God and extended to the widows, orphans and levies because they have no inheritance. So help me understand why I should do otherwise

I understand you bro , lets be honest Daddy freeze is addressing the abuse of the collection of the tithe and offering by the clergy people , which is correct but it does not nullify the payment of tithe and offering . in this new covenant the pastor will be the priest , since Jesus Christ is our high priest .
Actually , tithing was introduced into the law of Moses because of its benefits and we can do the same in this new covenant .
we live in the new covenant dispensation as Christians and nothing should be done legalistically since Jesus fulfill the law , I don't think it is compulsory to pay tithe under this new covenant dispensation and you will go to heaven if you don't pay tithe but if you are smart you can do what Abraham did as the first tither ,he gave ten percent as an honor , knowing that God will be his source of wealth ... under the new covenant tithe should be use to honor God and be used as worship believing God will supply all your needs , that's the only way you can express your faith , Now if I know that the pastor or clergy are using the tithe for the wrong thing , I will not give my tithe there .
if you are honoring God with the tithe and you are getting no result check if you are doing it legalistically ..or the church you are paying it into ..
you should take your tithe to God in prayer and tell him to bless the rest of your income ...and then give it to your church or pastor
and finally , lets ask the Christians that are paying the tithe as an honor to God , if there life's has been transformed ? ...I can only talk about myself , once I started using or paying the tithe as an honor to God , my income level has changed and a lot of financial miracles have happen to me

I dare you to quote a bible verse that ask you to give men of God your tithe

There is only one part in the bible where instructions on how to tithe is given in the whole bible and that's deutronomy 14 from vers 22 read Down

You where advised to use your tithe to buy anything your soul lusted after including strong win and bring it to GOds house and eat and ask the pastors and poor to join you

When you and do this there is no way the pastors can go hungry and that's what mal 3:10 was talking about

So, how do you suggest the church get funds for Evangelism, crusade outreaches, and the rest?

who asked you to give your tithes to pastors?
it is only logical that when you bring your tithe to his house (which you and i know is the Church )....you can either put it in the tithe box or drop it on the altar (if you feel your giving it to the Pastor during the church service when tithers are called out amounts to giving it to the pastor for his personal gain)
but if you ain't satisfied with the above options and still feel like you are giving it to the pastor...please drop it on the floor of the church that way you maybe interpreting the scripture in Malachi 3:10 literally....its your decision

The Malachi card grin grin grin Why am I not surprised?

Bros, see the light. Our endtime "Men of GOLD" have hoodwinked us into thinking the Book of Malachi was written for us, when in all honesty and as proven by the Bible, it was addressed to the errant Levites and Priests!

The first question you should ask is that who was this message directed at? The answer lies in the book of Numbers 18 : 25 -28 which states that “the lord commanded Moses to say to the Levites when you receive from the Israelites the tithe that the lord gives you as your possession, you must present a tenth of it as a special contribution to the lord. This special contribution will be considered as the equivalent of the offering which the farmer makes of new grain and wine. In this way you would also present the special contribution which belongs to the lord from all the tithes which you receive from the Israelites. You are to give this special contribution for the lord to Aaron the priest”

From the above it is clear that it was the Levites that were directed to pay a tithe of the tithe they collected from the Israelites to the priest who represents God and not the people of Israel. It was this Levites that were being referred to in the book of Malachi as those who rob God. A thorough study of the book of Malachi would reveal that in those days the Levites were collecting the tithe from the people of Israel and not remitting a tithe of it to the house of God, hence Malachi’s statement which is now being quoted out of context.

To understand what tithes really means one would have to understand the social reasons and cultural / religious setting within which it was situated this concept of tithes was properly explained in the bible as stated in the laws of the tithe which can be found in the books of Leviticus 27 : 30 – 34, Numbers 18 : 25 – 31 and Deuteronomy 14 : 22 – 29. Upon reading this passages one would understand what tithes really means, but unfortunately most pastors prefer to neglect these passages that tell us the true meaning of tithes and emphasize on Malachi 3 : 8 - 10 which was directed to the Levites of that time to remit the priest’s share of the tithes they collected to him. It is worthy of note that Malachi does not even define what tithes is and how it should be paid. The definition of tithes as practiced today was manufactured by modern day pastors to suit their purpose as it is completely in contrast with what is in the bible and it only seeks to manipulate Christians to believe that God requests 10 per cent of their gross income from them.

Another point of note is: How come out of the 613 biblical laws of Moses which were handed out to the people of Israel, it is only an adulterated version of the law of tithe that is still being practised today, apart from the Ten Commandments?

How come we are no longer required to offer burnt sacrifices? How come we no longer stone people to death for sinning?

The truth is that only tithing was dug out of the laws of Moses because it presents material benefits to the collectors of tithes. Given that most Christians do not study their bibles and depend on their priests to guide them through, it was easy for pastors to pick a passage in the bible (Malachi 3 : 8-10), quote it out of context and use it to manipulate the flock into parting with 10 per cent of their income.

Furthermore, it is worthy of note that neither Jesus Christ nor any of the apostles ever preached about or collected tithe. In fact, in the bible, Jesus Christ only spoke about tithes in Luke 11:42 which states that: “But woe unto you Pharisees! For ye tithe mint and rue all manner of herbs, and pass over judgement and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.” Here we can see that Jesus Christ is rebuking the Pharisees for laying emphasis on tithes instead of the more important things of the spirit, like our pastors are doing today.

In Acts 15, we find outlined what the apostles all agreed was necessary for the newly converted Gentiles to practise, and by inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God, tithing is conspicuously missing. Yet, what is one of the very first legislated duties taught to Gentile converts by the Church today? It is that they must tithe their annual salaries to the Church. Where did this unscriptural law of Christian tithing come from?

Notice this telling bit of history from the Encyclopaedia Britannica (1963, volume 22, page 253, ‘TITHES’). “Tithes in Christendom—The earliest authentic example of anything like a law of the State enforcing payment appears to occur in the capitularies [Ecclesiasticals] of Charlemagne at the end of the 8th or beginning of the 9th century. Tithes were, by that enactment, to be applied to the maintenance of the bishop, clergy, the poor, and the fabric of the church. In the course of time the principle of payment of tithes was extended far beyond its original intention. Thus, they became transferable to laymen and saleable like ordinary property, despite the injunctions of the third Lateran Council; and they became payable out of sources of income [not just farming and herding, but other trades and occupations and salaries paid in the form of money] not originally tithable.”

The Catholic Church knows its own history. Here is how tithing got back into the Church after being absent for nearly five centuries:

“As the Church expanded and various institutions arose, it became necessary to make laws which would insure the proper and permanent support of the clergy. The payment of tithes was adopted from the Old Law… The earliest positive legislation on the subject seems to be contained in the letter of the bishops assembled at Tours in 567 and the [canons] of the Council of Macon in 585.”—The Catholic Encyclopaedia.

They “extended” their base of tithe collecting to eventually include all forms of income. All Christian scholars know that although money was in wide use in ancient Israel, it was never a titheable commodity. But modern pastors don’t want tithes of goats or oil or corn, they want money–cold, hard cash! God has a word to the “shepherds of the sheep”, and it is the very same message that He had for the Levites in the book of Malachi. And it is this:

“My people have been lost sheep, their shepherds have caused them to go astray” (Jer. 50:6).

My people, shine your eyes shocked shocked shocked

in response to your first question:- Please what is the one-tenth of your crops? i believe you are not a farmer ( but if you are please you can bring one_tenth of your crops to the house of God).....i believe you work and your salary is paid in cash and not with crops...So it is one tenth of your salary in cash you are expected to Give same God who availed you the opportunity to have your job in the first place. The issue is that when we make all these arguments concerning tithing we all know the truth and what to do but decide to act others just for the fun and purpose of the argument.
in response to your second question:- please where/ when and which write-up/post did i ever respond to you by saying you are quoting the Old testament...Please it is Babilicious that is responding to your post ...don't mistake me for another and please don't avoid the vital points i have raised by bringing sentimental and imaginary words or sentence that never transpired between us

When it's comes to the issue of tithing, the fundamental question is

ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN?

I'm not asking if you go to church
I'm not asking if you are a pastor or worker?
I'm not asking if you understand the bible
I'm not asking if you are sensible
I'm not asking if you know your church doctrines
I'm not asking if you know the history of church or the bible

A Christian believes Jesus Christ is his LORD (commands him) and SAVIOUR. A Christian follows Christ.

My belief is that the main problem with the present age church is that there are VERY FEW CHRISTIANS (bible says MANY are called but FEW are chosen) in church.

Let's leave that one for another day.

There are many issues that the bible did not directly say e.g trinity (that word no dey inside bible yet we believe),

Now back to the issue.

Matthew 23:23

Jesus Christ (The Lord and commander of Christians that Christians should obey, the REASON why Christians call themselves Christians ) CLEARLY said, YOU SHOULD PAY YOUR TITHE. I believe anyone who professes to be a Christian should obey Christ.

I think that answers the question of whether we should pay or not.

Maybe another time I'll discuss where to pay to. Another CHRISTIAN may help out though.

I'm out!

The main idea from Malachi 3:10 why you should bring your tithe to the house of the lord is so there would not be hunger in the house of God

Deutronomy 14 :22 down to 30 made it clear you are to eat your tithe in the house of the lord and when you do call the pastors and poor to eat with you

When you don't eat your tithe in Gods house the pastors have nothing to eat , but when we all do the pastors would have food in abundant

Deutronomy 14 from 22 down is the only place with detailed instruction on how to pay tithe in the whole bible

My people, shine your eyes shocked shocked shocked

i am glad that you are highly equipped with lots of scriptures ...i am glad you also used Numbers 18:25 ....." the Lord commanded Moses to say to the Levites when you receive from the Israelites the tithe that the lord gives you ..." thereby admitting that the Israelites are to pay tithes...All Christians are regarded as Abraham's descendants and he is the grandfather of Jacob ( also called Israel)...hence we (you and i are Israelites) and from the scripture you quoted we(you and I )are to pay tithes...
Going further to literally interpret the scripture you used ...Numbers 18:25 "the lord commanded Moses to say to the Levites when you receive from the Israelites the tithe...) One can rightly concluded that Levites (priest or Pastors or whatsoever we call them presently) are to be given our tithes since the scripture you quoted says ..... THE LORD COMMANDED MOSES TO SAY TO THE LEVITES WHEN YOU RECEIVE....
Please i ask you...if i am to adhere strictly to Numbers 18:25 which you used to explain or counter the scripture quoted by me (Malachi 3:10 ) .. I am suppose to give...handover my tithe to the Levites (priest or pastors) and don't have to bring it to God's house or store or temple (as written in Malachi 3:10) ..meaning i can give it to them anywhere and at anytime...Please does this way of tithing seem appealing and right to you?
Please what of Matt 23:23 where Jesus said , "Yes" we should tithe...was he also referring to the Levites?
while you are pondering over these questions please let it be known to you that i don't oppose your views or any other person's views about tithing (I am NOT GOD )....all am after is that we shouldn't compel or convince another to accept our views because the bible says we should not do anything if it causes another Christian to stumble as you may have faith to believe that there's nothing wrong with what you are doing ( and the other christian may not have your kind of faith thereby making him/her to stumble) rather keep it between you and God (you don't owe anybody an explanation neither is it a must to convince anyone)...hence you will be guilty of sinning....Romans 14:21-23(read)
this is and will continue to be my stand on this issue....i have made my decision and its between God and I.

Sir/Ma,

No one was born a Christian?

Your statement is one of the fundamental errors informing our submissions these days.

Was born a Christian
But no longer a Christian, right?

So, why not the Christians alone to do their things?

As far as they aren't hurting others?

Then, concentrate on the religions that kills and breeds terror?
