Curtisaxel27:The point you made about Yakubu is why I've emphasised that club football is not the same as national team football. The same game but the dynamics are sometimes different. Before Aiyegbeni there was Jonathan Akpoborie who was scoring goals in the Bundesliga yet whenever he was playing for the Super Eagles, he was either him out running the ball or the ball out running him. It was frustrating to watch him. |

Steven N'Zonzi has earned his first France call-up at the age of 28 having consistently impressed in La Liga. He rejected DR Congo 7 times. Make of it what you want. 5 Likes |

Mujtahida: Yakubu is one of the record highest scorers for Nigeria. Number 3, i believe. He scored plenty goals for Nigeria. |

komekn:All what you' ve wrote is proof that top prospects can still play in the less fancied backwater leagues. So setting these lofty standards of top 5 leagues being the sole search radius for national team invites might in the long run prove to be detrimental to our football development. 7 Likes |

Mujtahida: I read that article. There was no where it stated the brother pulled strings. It is simply am agent explaining why his client deserves a call-up. |

komekn: Fred playing 140+ league games is far from possible though I'm not taking it along as he's still 20. I can say that he's afraid of competitions and maybe doubts his talent which made him to turn down watford if true. He would have taken up the challenge against best. Many 17 year olds has won MOTM many times. Just one very good game will give you MOTM so it's not a yardstick of measurement rather it's consistency. He needs to do more. 4 Likes |

Mujtahida: First off, Yakubu Aiyegbeni was a prolific striker for Nigeria even emerging 3rd all time highest. He scored very important goals in our different WC qualifier campaigns. Please don't use that miss at the 2010 WC alone to judge him. Then, I have always said it that club football is different from national team football. There are some players that look so electrifying at their clubs but when they get to the super eagles they fail to even kick start. And some pose average performances at their clubs but become super performers at the national team. That's why we must be very careful with some names we are throwing in here. They may not be national team materials. Good that Rohr recognizes this and has been inviting new players cautiously. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe:''He is very young and full of energy. It is a well deserved one and I thank the coaching crew, the NFF and people that remember Chidiebere is still in existence. '' They told me when his time come they will invite him and they fulfilled their promise. I hold them in high esteem,'' added Allwell Nwakali. They told me when his time come they will invite him and they fulfilled their promise. I hold them in high esteem,'' added Allwell Nwakali. I drew my inference from this statement coupled with the fact that he's an agent and this is Naija. I am not positing it as a fact but an opinion based on the above. Cos I asked myself why would the NFF tell him if he did not ask or try to make it happen for his brother with the Super Eagles. 1 Like |

Icon4s:the problem with nff...is lack of sense... they gladly go after players who will embarass them and the country rather than players who declared for us... this dude trained wit the super eagles sometime ago in London including ola aina... we don't even have an under 20 team as at present...no friendlies for the age grade teams... just imagine what's wrong wit inviting someone like dessers to come replace ighalo and let him feel appreciated with the way the nff is going nah I don't think it is safe to declare for the super eagles anymore.... what's wrong wit inviting otigba when he was in his prime...? many of this good players we will keep loosing because the coaches and the football federation are just myopic... |

Icon4s:The bolded is my point. I used a wrong example to back it up when I mentioned Aiyegbeni. Your note of caution is well sounded cos truly not all can replicate their club form in Gwg. That's why I loved Rashidi. Aghahowa too was a good goal scorer for the Super Eagles though he didn't last long. |

Icon4s: Nigerian and Scottish... He trained with the super eagles already in London along with Ola Aina. He said he is from Mbaise in Imo. He is wide open for a national team invite. I think he is a big talent. 3 Likes |

Mujtahida: I wonder if you understand what pulling strings is. It is normal for agents to enquire if their players will get called to the National team. All agents do that. It is also normal to receive assurances when a player's time will come, he will get invited. That is not pulling strings. Pulling strings means, making things happen. Gerrit? |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mujtahida: 7:36pm On Nov 03, 2017 |
SerVik:That might be a criteria, framework but not a rigid rule as komekn seems to make it to be. Because to be fair, there's a link between the quality of a player and the league he plays in but I still regard this criteria as just one out of other modes through which players for the national team can be selected. Komekn error or misconception is that he regards this criteria as the Alpha and Omega, the sole mode for choosing players. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe:I don't gerrit. So you don't know that just by calling, a person can make things happen depending on the person's clout? Ultimately I said it's my opinion based on the parameters I gave earlier on. I am not saying it's a fact. It's more like a reasonable suspicion on my part. Cos you trying to push it the other way when you also don't know for a fact how(as in the details based on verifiable facts) he got invited. So don't let us spar on what basically are just two opinions abi you know for a fact how them take invite am? 3 Likes |
