You can toggle it on under the home screen and recents menu. Settings>Home screen and recents>show memory status.

The feelers from MI forum suggested some of the announced features on Nov 2. Were absent in those who had the 266mb update.

Sure, the 266MB is an incremental update route sanctioned by Xiaomi .
