haha same player that liked Abraham's England invite..
oga they all like us.. But they also like the other country.

Lol, different tone.. So he should not like Tammy's update? Playing international football is a big deal.

By the way, Ejaria commited himself to a Nigeria future years ago. Even though, he had the choice of England. Since then, he has played for the English under 20. I follow most of the English Nigerian boys on social media and Ejaria is one of the few that consistently follows Nigerian football. He was allowed to train with Manu's under 17.

Did Otigba not reject a call-up for Nigeria? Have you called him since?

Players with dual citizenship will usually go to the country that shows interest first. Building a relatioship is important but footballers have to look out for their careers too.

okay good.
Declaration is only good for the papers.. But that's not how civilized people do things.
Those players were asked by journalists and they answered. So it made it's way to the media.
It's not like they called a press conference or something lol.

I knew you were being sarcastic.I just used it as an opportunity to address the 'declaration' mantra

Guys, can we just leave the technical decisions to the guys who are paid to make those decisions. Here's why:

1. Gernot Rohr played the game at a higher level than any one of us here
2. Gernot Rohr had coached the game at a higher than anyone of us
3. I stand corrected but Rohr and his crew can read the game better than everyone of us here
4. Gernot Rohr knows these players better than everyone of us because he trains them and have watched them up, close, and personal.

MetalJigsaw:
That's more reason hes more better than Agu because those qualities I listed about Ogu are the basic abilities a central/defensive midfielder should possess.

Is there any moment a team does not need to retain possession? If I may ask.

If I asked you today to play for India will you agree? Hungry na country for football?
Besides there is no guarantee Otigba will turn down another interest from Hungary.

In addition, success has many friends. Once we start playing well again, you'd see playing getting interested in playing for Nigeria.

Bro, when I was in college, I was the General Secretary of the African Students Association in my school. And anytime I see an African student, I do not wait for them to join us or to "declare an interest"; rather I will pursue them like a biatch until I get their commitment. Oh my, I was even able to get some Afro Americans and Afro Caribbean to join us.

That's how you do stuff like that .... you engage them. And it starts by building a relationship as well. But once they make their decisions a la Tammy Abraham, you leave them alone and move on.

Bros, travelling is great ooo. Do you know that among the nobility then in Europe a man wasn't considered educated unless he had travelled to at least four countries in Europe and could speak and write at least two or three continental languages as well as being able to play at least one musical instrument and be adept at using arms? Why? So that a man's vision and perspective would be broad and rich. Your experience out of your journeyings has given you an understanding of this matter.

I use that assertion to put some of my American friends in their place ... especially those of them who think that Africa is a country grin And I often remind them that America is the only developed country where the citizens mostly speak one language only. An average Euro kid speaks at least 4 different languages.

Anyway, I just want you to know that I agree with you 101%

Not true, some players best qualities come out when you are defending.

When you are under pressure, Ogu is not the best tackler around.

That is what I am saying that we don't need such a play.
We expect to be under pressure for the most of the world cup as we are considered among the under dogs.

We need players that can hold their own irrespective of the nature of the opposition.

If John Ogu cannot perform when under pressure sorry we don't need him in the world cup.

There may not be more than one opponent that we will dominate in terms of play all through our campaign. We expect to face oppositions that will put our midfield and defense to serious test.

We need players that can still give their performance even under pressure

Patriotism is an illusion. Today he is giving more than 100% to Austria.
If he felt so Nigerian as you want to believe, why didn't he wait? He was just 17.

Modified
It was said it was told to him then that we were focussing on homegrown players for our cadet teams. That should have giving hope for Super Eagles in the future. If he was so patriotic about Nigeria as you guys want to believe, why didn't he act like Shola Ameobi?

And did Ameobi later play for Nigeria? Why did he not die waiting to be called up by England because of patriotism? In all, Nigeria will ALMOST always be a second choice if they are afforded the opportunity both ways.

I didn't reply that piece of sophistry cos I don't want to be going in circles.

Joebie:
Well, let's not be sentimental so we can think clearly.
This is my suggestion on the matter.
Sometimes we look like beggars, just because we don't have a system of approaching.
What we need is a standard for invitation of those in diaspora.

Firstly we need a database. These players should be put in the database while still in their early teens. Relationship with the players and their parents should be maintained.

Secondly, these players, on a rotation basis should be invited to train with the big boys whenever we are camped in Europe. This would make the players have a relationship not only with the senior players but also the coaches handling the team.

Thirdly, we should send correspondence to these players at important dates, and provide option for them to indicate their availability for National assignments with Nigeria. They should be informed, the option is just for them to show interest, not a guarantee that they will be called up. This way we know from the onset those who are nursing an ambition to play for Nigeria, and those who remain interested.

With this process put in place, we will not need any middle man or any team to meet with these players for talks when we need them. We will make the job easier for our coaches. All they need do is look at the numbers and make the right approaches according to need.

Stop begging. We need only those who are proud to wear the gwg

Balogun said in an interview I watched that the plan in the Zambia match was to cede possession to the Zambians. And thats not strange.
Teams do that regularly. So yes there are times when a team does not retain possession either by reason of its tactical plan or by reason of the other team dominating play.
the Source... does Mikel who played throughout that game not hold the ball?

They are four brothers not three: Francis(Andreas) Giannis, Thanasis and Alexis. Do you perchance know why none of them is interested in playing for Nigeria? Because nothing happens in vacuum.
Well, when the poster I referred to was asked by another poster how Giannis and his family felt towards Nigeria, suspecting that they must feel bitter towards Nigeria, the poster said No, the parents werent bitter but on the contrary they encouraged their children to play for Nigeria and that if he (the poster) was still involved with Nigerian basketball at the time he met them he would have convinced them to play for Nigeria but that by then Gianis was already in the Greek selection radar and that fastreacked him turning out for Greece.
They should have reached out to the Nbbf. Nigeria's basketball policy actually favoured Nigerians in diaspora for obvious reasons.
In the championship winning class of 2015, Stanley Gumut was the only home grown player we had in the team.

Since Giannis was already playing for Greece, why aren't his brothers considering Nigeria? His kid brother while still in high school declared for Greece. I don't know if I can find a link to this.
If I can, I will post it.

Even Uganda is not a bad footballing nation. We are making comparisons here.. Talking about the last Euros does not remove from my point.
My point is these players are attached to both countries and they will make decisions based on what will suit their interest not patriotism. Patriotism is overplayed here. We can believe what we want so long as it makes us happy.

Your first analogy was with India who have not qualified for anything.

As in the case of Otigba, it is probably best for them to look out for their best career interests as patrotism could make them miss out of international football.

Idowu is having to give up the Russian passport to play for Nigeria. Do you know how difficult that is??
