How do you identify a really good player? Is it when such an individual is playing in his father's garage? You can only identify a good player if he's playing organised football!

What is organised football? Organised football is a league structured football.

Now, the exceptional players have already started playing for their adopted countries before they sign their first professional contracts.

I ask, do you want the Nff go hunting in London high schools to scout for Nigerians who have soccer potentials? This is the only way you can beat their adopted countries from getting them first.

This is not a solution. I haven't heard about any country in the world whose standard practice is to scout for players with this begging approach. Are we that desperate? Are these guys worth all the headache? How many championships have they won for their adopted countries?

Scouting for talents abroad is not the solution to the problem of Nigerian football. Brazil have the highest number of players playing for other countries, yet they still manage to be a force in football and always make the world cup finals.

For every Diego Costa or Thiago Motta they have tens of worthy replacements. This is the position I would like Nigeria to attain, not going cap in hands to beg small boys to come play for us.

So I was watching pinnick's interview on HIP TV this evening and here's what he said about Tammy.


- He was a player I wanted. England never needed him, at least not now. They lost Iwobi and that really hurt them. So immediately they heard about our interest, they had to call him up to avoid what happened with Iwobi.


- His club coach is English, his national team coach also English and the FA are friends with all of them.

- He's made his choice, all we can do as Nigerians is wish him the best and hope he doesn't turn out like Nedum Onuoha.

He also had this to say about friendlies.

He said, people had preferred for us to play a weaker opposition instead of Argentina, but he was against that because he was interested in knowing our weaknesses earlier so we can use the 6 months we have in trying to correct them, and also to identify our strongest points.

By march/june we should prepare to play against European teams and there are also talks in place with FA Presidents of Japan and Korea for friendlies too.

Dutch-Nigerian Ebuehi, Etebo, Ogu Among Top Performers In Super Eagles Training


ADO Den Haag Dutch-Nigerian defender Tyronne Ebuehi has been very impressive in training for the Super Eagles ahead of their Friday game against Algeria.
Ebuehi is yet to make his competitive debut for Nigeria since agreeing to pursue a career with Nigeria at international level ahead of the Netherlands,
It is looking very likely that the 20 year old will finally get his chance against Algeria on Friday as his all round performance has caught the eyes, particularly his pace and ability to whip in crosses.
Hapoel Be’er Sheva central midfielder John Ogu has also been very impressive in training especially during yesterday’s session with his abilities in aerial duels the catch of his performance.
The injury to Mikel Agu has opened up a window for him to play his first competitive game under Rohr, who has also hinted that he will give players who have been a part of the team during qualifiers the chance to play against Algeria

CD Feirense midfielder Ogehenekaro Etebo is another player who is fighting to regain his starting spot in the team after failing to impress in the 0-2 loss to South Africa in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers.
Since that game he has not been used by Rohr in any competitive game, but his strong showing in training will no doubt make the coach consider him among the six changes he said he will likely make to his starting line up on Friday.

They were set up to play Manchester United and City thier U18 teams. There was great anticipation.

As a warm up game two private football academies based in the NW England were merged to play against the highly esteemed Nigeria all stars.

There were a lot of club scouts including the head of recruitment at Fulham who were in the EPL at the time.

They played the game expecting to be beaten but would try to keep the scoreline respectable. In the end they beat the Nigeria all stars 8-1. Only one player was selected to go on trial at Fulham. He was a English born Nigerian striker.

There is no EPL academy in the UK that doesn't have Nigerian origin players. When you go to the London city Region that number becomes double % figures.

Do you really think there are not quite a few other Tega's in the system. There are but our NFF esteemed scouting crew do not want to work and do thier job properly. Waiting for the English FA to identify players for Nigeria. Then we try to reap where we did not sow.

I know nothing about the so called all star team, ambassador took to the UK. But it will be a huge mistake to gauge the level of the "all star team" by just one game.

Have you considered the small issue if acclimatisation? Those boys were first time travellers outside Nigeria, it will be too much to expect they would be at their best ahead of such an exhibition game.

If you bring those English boys down to Kano or Kaduna, do you think they will escape without conceeding double figures?

Eagles Training: Deportivo La Coruna Goalkeeper Uzoho Impresses In Shooting Drills

As part of our build up to the dead rubber World Cup 2018 Qualifiers tie between Nigeria and Algeria, Owngoalnigeria.com contact in Morocco witnessed the Eagles training session.
The goalkeepers of the team had a shooting session which was handled by the goalkeeper trainers Alloy Agu and Enrico Pionetti, with goalkeeper Francis Odinaka Uzoho and Ikechukwu Ezenwa taking part.
During the drills newly invited Deportivo La Coruna shot stopper Uzoho impressed with his long reach especially in diving to make saves, as his impressive height ensure he hardly misses when he dives.
Standing at an impressive height of over six feet tall, Uzoho wasn’t as assured in terms of grip like Ikechukwu Ezenwa who is the number one goalkeeper of the team.
However, Uzoho put up a good performance in training during the morning session, and he will be hoping for more of the same in the second session which will take place later this evening.

Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has joined up with the rest of the team, hence they will be three goalkeepers in the team for the session which will focus more on tactical issues ahead of Friday’s game.

You keep talking Fair play, Fair play. The fact that you're foreign born and have decided to play for us doesn't guarantee you an automatic place in the team.

Hope Akpan showed promise, but was injured and we couldn't see more of him. Other midfielders took his place and the coaches were happy with what those who replaced him had achieved.


Sone Aluko is a player I love, he's got passion, and he's the only one I'd fault the coaches for not giving him a lookin.

Anichebe injury ruined this guy's career, he had lot of promise and would have been a force to reckon with in the EPL. Remember he rejected a call up to join the 2013 AFCON winning Eagles, saying he wanted to focus on his Club Career. We went on to win the AFCON with Ideye, Uche and Eminike and didn't see the need for him no more. Iheanacho and Ighalo came along at some point.


If you want your absence to be felt, fine! Bit pray to God those lurking around the corner waiting for you to blink so they replace you aren't as good as you or even better. Who'd be clamoring for Enyeama if not for Ikeme's present condition??

Comparing the socio-economic strength of Nigeria with football is like apples and oranges. They are not the same thing.

Science and technology is not one of our strengths as a country. It makes sense to import warships,gun boats, fighter jets and armored tanks. Although one can ask questions why some inventions made by the Biafrans during the war was not tapped into by succeeding governments (story for another day).

When it comes to football, we cannot say we lack the talents so much that we should start importing footballers just like we import warships. This is ridiculous.
