Every status you view is automatically downloaded to your phone memory which you can access inside whatsapp (status) folder in your folder list.

I actually found a solution to this few weeks ago. I got fed up of screenshotng status hence the quest for my investigation. As a techy guy, I knew whatsapp status can't be viewed without being downloaded somewhere, so I started doing some trials and errors and bam! I got an answer
Steps on how to view and download WhatsApp status.
I guess you're using an Android device.
1) go to your file manager
2) click on WhatsApp
3) click media.
Press the options button then click show hidden files.
Then a folder looking faint with the name. Statuses will appear.
: Open the folder ad you'd see all the WhatsApp pics and videos you've viewed in the last 24hrs. Select the ones you want then copy or cut them to a different folder. Dazall. You welcome.
