wike is so so right. Social science students should come back and study the course here on Rivers State govt scholarship. Only intensive courses like Medicine, Aeronautical engineering, nuclear physics and the rest should be studied abroad.

I don't think they were granted the scholarship to study non science courses because I know people who didn't get the scholarship because their course weren't science related. These students get the scholarship for science courses and when they get there they change their courses to easier ones claiming the sciences is too difficult. I really don't blame Wike.

Isn’t this man a lawyer? Let those that have already been sent get their degree. If he later on wants to fund Science only then that’s fine. However the government must honor the promises of the past admin if that means paying till the end of their program.

I agree with him, science and tech is the future, all art and humanities student shud be deported back and sent to community commercial sec sch to teach our local students sex education.

Well, we need to see the list of courses to be offered if there was any. Science and Arts is a way of diverting from the fact that they have failed to pay. There is a student who has completed Neuroscience but can't get his certificate for two years now because the state government failed in their responsibilities.

What is needed is practical courses like shoemaking (do you know how many shoes we import in Nigeria every year?), irrigation management, food packaging and technology Welding, deep sea diving ,Air traffic control,carpentry, road construction,rail construction, waste recycling and management, logistic management,courier and parcel distribution,hospital management ,school management that will create jobs and wealth.
Akpabio spent billions building a hospital before realizing there is no one to manage it! We are talking of trains.Where are the train drivers,who will repair the trains. We need to focus on skills and jobs not books and exams.
We are talking of ranching where is the training? Where is the modern fishing off our coast
Ask those in the oil industry what we pay daily for divers and welders from overseas. Or what we pay for Fire and safety management.

What is needed is to do an audit of every single foreigner working in this country on a visa and make a list and analysis of their skill sets

But I agree with wike on this. It is pure foolishness to spend millions abroad to train pple on what they can easily be trained on here at home, at cheaper cost too.
I can't send my kids abroad to study any course other than medicine or some very rare and highly sought field of engineering, and there must be reasonable guarantee of being employed in that country.
If my son wants to study philosophy, then he will attend a public university here. I won't even send him to covenant or Babcock sef.

This is arrant nonsense from the governor and all of you supporting him. You claim they study philosophy and accounting in Nigerian schools. Same thing applies to science courses like Medicine and Engineering! You claim forex is scarce! why not bring foreign lecturers to come and be teaching in Uniport? Actually you're the one that has no clue how western system works. How do you think they all advanced? The bronze and Iron ages were not for nothing. How do you think the Americans got to be were the are now; the world's super power? How do you think the Japanese got to rise from a feudal nation to a major power in the 19th-20th century and presently one of the world's largest economy? How do you think Israel, without any meaningful natural resources, rose to become a MAJOR technological giant? What about the Asian Tigers that rose in the 1990s?

It had nothing to do with Arts, or accounting, but Science, Mathematics, and Technology. Both groups do not grow hand in hand. That's why right thinking nations invest in STEM education and try to attract the very best minds outside their borders.

It's understandable if you're upset that science, maths, and technology courses are being given preference over non technical subjects. But you've got to face reality here. These foreign universities are better suited to teach these technical courses as their level of advancement far exceeds what we have here. Art subjects on the other hand can be easily taught in any Nigerian university, therefore it will be a waste of funds to fund these courses abroad.
