This issue has been bugging me for some time now.
If there are any medical students here, please your opinion is highly needed.

I've been hearing that medicine is very tough and all that, but being an average student, can I still scale through?
Will it be as easy as it is with top students?
Don't get me wrong, I didn't choose medicine because I wanted to. It's been my dream right from JSS2..
But being at home for 2 years, due to delay in getting admitted, without going to school, little or less study has really depleted what I had back then in secondary school.
I just need advice.
Please there should be no insults.

MEDICINE is not meant for the brilliant alone, rather for the HARDWORKING types.
When I was set to embark on my trip through the Medical College to study HUMAN MEDICINE/SURGERY, the first gift my dad offered me was a CHAIR.
A very nice and suitable one for that matter.
He said to me " this CHAIR will remind you that you are meant to sit down and study for a longer time than others"
As a scholar, i was an AVERAGE STUDENT, although I have been a smart and hardworking man.
I surrounded myself with intelligent chaps as well.
That became a morale booster.
Always surround yourself with MEDICAL STUDENTS that will want to graduate as soon as possible.
They always know how to source for MATERIALS.
Join CHRISTIAN GATHERINGS, for they know how to hoard materials from UNBELIEVERS.
Finally, Choose your ROOMMATES yourself.
Make sure 85 percent of them are studying Human Medicine and Surgery.
If you can do all these, that means I will attend your Graduation Party.
At graduation, I will also encourage you to enrol for the United States Licensing Medical Examination.
Could you believe that Some SENIOR PREFECTS as it where those days, were withdrawn from my medical college....??
They relied on past glories.
However, if you find my SUGGESTION too long, then know u can't study medicine because it's VOLUMINOUS.

In Nigeria, average depends on your location. An average student in the south may be a brilliant student in the north.

I have seen people going to study medicine in the north from the south. I have seen people who go to Sudan to study medicine who ordinarily won't have been given admission to study biology education in Southern Nigeria.

Medicine is a competitive course. Apply where there are lesser competition.

It's all in the mindset dear, average or extra ordinary is all in the mindset, you become what you think of yourself.
Have seen someone i thought was below average succeed on that field and someone i consider extra ordinary fail, it's all in you, fear of failure or hunger to succeed.. nothing is beyond you trust me, give it your best short and above all remain faithful to whatever you believe in..Goodluck

As a medical student, myself.let me just drop a few points for you.
Medicine is all about the zeal, drive and passion. Doesn't matter how intelligent u are or used to be, you must be willing to read and read and read, even when some of your scores, are not showing your hard work. Don't give up, keep pushing. Sometimes, I think medicine is one of those courses that you can honestly"fail" your way to the top.
Also your friends should be 90% medical students(serious ones ooo)..
Have a very dry social life. That way, less distractions. And if you must date, let it be a medical student. That way, she/he will "understand" you(med students will understand what I'm talking about)..
Also, don't joke with past questions. They will help you

Yeah, there were lots of average students in medical school in my time, but they were ready to study and passed in the end.

To start with, I'm a final year medical student.

Yes, an average student can scale through medical school. The only part that is difficult for average students is getting admitted for medicine. That's usually a survival of the fittest thing.

But does that mean only extraordinarily brilliant students get admitted to medicine in our country? No. Here in my school, many average or even academically poor students are admitted into medicine based on connections (supplementary list).

And you know what? Most of these average students scale through med school without any problems. Or with few issues, such as resits.

So far an average student is not lazy and can plan his/her time well, he/she will be fine. Even the so called very brilliant students do fail exams due to laziness and carelessness.

Yes, medicine from what I heard is not hard but need a lot of perseverance because of work load and there is lot cramming. There exams back then are also mainly in fill in this blanks

When talking of hard courses talk of a course like Bsc physics

Studied medicine and still practise as a physician 12 years down the line, i was just an average student in school. but you simply need consistency in your reading and avoid distractions. Try to socialize as well as it will help you to ease tension.Pray well too.

bro you don't have to date a medical student, all the girls i dated as a med student were never medical students, and it helped me a lot as it took the stress of medicine off me every now and then .
I ended up dating and marrying a law student when I got into clinicals.

For me, there's neither easy nor tough field, there's neither average nor dull students but exceptional students exist. I am 100% convinced everyone has set of suitable courses. However, students seems dull or average when choice of course was not inwardly influenced.

If M&S as your choice is what you really want, go for it please. Most people complaining about how its difficult should be the least of worries if it's really what you want (be honest to yourself).
