hopefulLandlord: Let me debunk this. Christianity is not the problem per se, coz a church that is built around and constantly talks about this "Jesus" and "God" that you just mentioned is more concerned with the thoughts of getting to Heaven as opposed to material acquisition, because that is the very essence of Christianity. Unfortunately, people hardly "patronize" such churches coz they hate to hear the bitter truth. And that is why you wont see such Churches and their Pastors in the lime-light always. Our bane are those churches or pastors that make a caricature of the christiandom, preferrong to "motivate/inspire" their audience, massaging their ego and delight, and ultimately making them part with more than the biblical tithes. 5 Likes 1 Share |

TreasuredGlory: The New Testament speaks of the works of the flesh (Gal. 5:19) as well as of dead works (Heb. 6:1). Those who indulge in the works of the flesh such as immorality, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, etc, will certainly not inherit the kingdom of God. These works are so obviously sinful that it would be difficult for a believer to practise any of them without being convicted in his conscience. Dead works, however, are more deceitful. They are externally good works, but they spring from a corrupt source (for nothing good dwells in our flesh) and are therefore like a filthy garment in God's eyes (Rom. 7:18; Isa. 64:6). We are therefore commanded to repent not only from sin but from dead works too. It is only after we have laid such a foundation, that we can press on to perfection (Heb. 6:1). It is well known among believers that the blood of Jesus can cleanse us from all sin. What is not so well known is the fact that the blood of Christ must cleanse our conscience from dead works too before we can serve the living God aright (Heb. 9:14). It is essential therefore that we have a clear understanding of what dead works really are. Works Done Without Joy God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor. 9:7). He also loves a cheerful doer of His will. He meets those who rejoice in doing righteousness (Isa. 64:5). When the Israelites did not serve the Lord with joy, they were punished by being made to serve their enemies (Deut. 28:47,48). The kingdom of God consists of righteousness accompanied by the joy of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 14:17). Only those who delight to do His will can bring joy to the heart of God. Consider the matter of tithing, for example. This was a law under the old covenant. But it is never commanded by Jesus or the apostles to those under the new covenant. Yet multitudes of covetous pastors compel their congregations to tithe compulsorily either through promises of divine reward or through threats of divine judgment. The people pay up, but without joy. It is not spontaneous giving, but grudging, reluctant giving. The pastors are happy when the offering boxes are full, but God is not. Pastors love large givers, but God loves only cheerful givers! The new covenant principle is NOT, "Give as much as you can give", but , "Give as much as you can give cheerfully". God does not want any more than that. Of course you will receive in the same proportion as you give (2 Cor. 9:7; Lk. 6:38) - but that is another matter. God does not, however, desire any labour or gifts that are unwillingly given. What we do without joy is a dead work. 9 Likes 5 Shares |

tabtabtab:Actually, the stance of the New Testament on a lot of these issues is quite obvious to anyone who interpretes the Bible honestly. 1. Wearing trouser or not wearing trouser. The old testament forbids Jewish women from wearing men's clothes but it doesn't say which clothes are men's clothes and which ones are women's clothes. The New Testament only talks about "modesty" in dressing. Trousers that are not too tight are more modest than skirts. 2. We should worship on Saturday not SundayThe Sabbath is on Saturday, but Paul made it very clear that Christians who are not Jews should not be asked to keep the Sabbath. 3. Alcohol or no alcohol. There is no non-alcoholic wine in the Bible. Jesus, the apostles, and Paul drank alcoholic wine on multiple occasions. Jesus and the early Christians performed the holy communion with alcoholic wine. So a blanket ban on the consumption of alcohol is not supported by the Bible. However, many Bible passages condemn drunkenness. So biblically, it's okay to consume alcohol, but not to the point of getting drunk. 4. Now...... Tithe or no titheThere is no biblical basis for Christian tithing. This is clear. Nobody who reads the Bible honestly will conclude that Christians should pay tithes. It's all matter of personal faith and believeIf your faith and belief is based on the Bible, and not on the church you attend, then the correct answers to all the questions above are clear. 17 Likes 3 Shares |

Re: Bishop David Oyedepo Speaks On Tithing (Video) by IamtherealRita(f): 10:00am On Nov 12, 2017 |
sarutobie: Tithing itself is a dead work While it is true that Jesus will reward the faithful ones (Rev. 22:12) and while it is also true that the ultimate desire of our life should be to please the Lord (2 Cor. 5:9) so that we can hear the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant" from Him one day, yet Jesus Himself warned us against the self-centred desire for even a heavenly reward, motivating us in our sacrifices and our service for Him. When Peter compared himself favourably with the rich young ruler (who had just turned away from Jesus) and asked the question, "What shall we get for all that we have given up for you?" (Matt. 19:27), Jesus replied with the parable of the labourers (Matt. 20:1-16). There we find that those who worked for pay (reward) ended up last, while those who worked without any thought of reward ended up first (even though they had done only a small percentage of the work that the former had done). Quantity versus quality - there we see the difference between dead works and living works. Works done with the hope of our ultimately being promoted above other believers and finding a place in the bride of Christ, will be exposed as dead works in the final day. If you purify your thought-life, do good to others, and love your wife or submit to your husband, all with the thought of being exalted in some future day, then `Self' is still at the centre of your life, and all your self-centred `good' works are dead works! Those who do get crowns in glory are quick to cast them down at the feet of the Lord, saying, "Thou alone art worthy" (Rev. 4:10). It is only when we have purged ourselves from motives other than the desire to glorify God, that we can be freed from dead works. If we keep a record in our memory of all the good works that we have done, those good works become dead works. Jesus gave us two pictures of the final judgment day - one where people listed before the Lord all the good things that they had done in their earthly lives, "Lord, we prophesied in Your name, we healed the sick in Your name, etc" (Matt. 7:22,23). These people were rejected by the Lord. In the other picture we find the righteous surprised when they are reminded by the Lord of the good that they had done in their earthly lives. "Lord, when did we do that?", is their surprised cry (Matt. 25:34-40). They had forgotten about the good that they had done - for they had not done those works for reward. There we see a clear contrast between dead works and living works. Which category do we fit into? 3 Likes 3 Shares |

Y is he not making biblical quote and examples, better still, let ask the Israelite about tithes and how its collected and how or ways it can be spent simple. The bible said gather it and choose a venue where the have and the have not will come together and enjoy a feast and drink wine even alcoholic wine (its a day of merriment) to see that the poor are happy in the land, Mark you money was not the main item for tithing but farm produce and livestock only those who live far from the tithing arena are advice to sell and bring cash so as to save them the stress of moving their items from far and remote locations. But today's pastors are asking only money, if ur a yam farmer, bring 1 tenth of ur harvest, a plantations owners bring the same cow herdsmen same but when you offer services u bring from your net profit and not gross profit yes profit after taxes and miscellaneous deductions, like doctors teacher and real estate consultant etc, again the value such money is to purchase food items and expended only on the issue of tithing day feast of that year. Like rentals, paid cook, suppliers cleaners etc. Again tithes is to gather items to share for the benefit of all but especially for the poor in our societies period. Even if you own a land or plantations by God's wish you are not to clear everything on harvest time, yes you must leave some and ask the widows and orphans or orphanage to go into your land to clear the left covers. By so doing you reap blessings from God and love or likeness from people. So give no pastor your tithes better still church should create a tithe committee mandated to collect and agree on the venue to celebrate the feast for their members that will be a better option or you give ur tithe to the less privilege people you know but be sure its 10% o! TITHING WAS A PART OF THE LAW OF MOSES; BELIEVERS ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW. BELIVERS ARE NOW UNDER GRACE SO TITHING IS NOT IN THE NEW TESTAMENT, AS CHRIST HAS REDEEMED ALL BY HIS DEATH ON CROSS CAN YOU PAY 10% FOR THAT? NO rather, as Christians we are to give from our heart to support God's work by donation to the true church or the deserving less privileged around us. Give from your heart not by force and not by 1% or 100% just be truthful to your desire to give unto God's work or people in need for no reward in mind, as God is not interested in measurements but true love for giving. If you like your pastor why not give him gift from time to time and not your tithes mandatorily like a tax TITHING WAS AN INVOLUNTARY TAX TO SUPPORT ISRAEL; BELIEVERS ARE NOT A PART OF THE THEOCRATIC NATION.In the Old Testament, there was both required and voluntary giving. The tithe was required. It was commanded for every Israelite to fund national worship and help the poor. In actuality, there was not just one tithe, but rather two or three ([1] Lev. 27:30-33, Num. 18:20-21; [2] Deut. 12:17-18; [3] Deut. 14:2 so that the total was not 10 percent, but more like 22 percent Generous grace giving is the New Testament standard and letter to the early churches on tithe but giving for love was more advocated So give freely and truly to any deserving person or cause or pastor as a support and expect noting in return only but thanks and love to share with men and extend to God. E.g bro John just paid my rent help me thank him! Then bro John will smile and say let's all Thank God who truly provide the money, love and opportunity for His works and Name to be praised. That all folks! No tithes but show true love and support to one another and to each other. 6 Likes |
