You could imagine the fear of the surviving crew of the other G5s in the formation (during the Battle of Cuito), having to continue loading shells for days with little break. For every shell you load could be your last.

Is there a specific incident you are referring to? I must confess I'm not aware of any G5 that was knocked out of action as a result of a barrel failure during Moduler, Hooper, or Packer.

Never knew the Nigerian police performed the rescue operation of the Brit guys.
It appears they did.It was a bloody affair though a Police Sergeant died from his injuries.I believe three of the Kidnappers were killed and maybe 1/2 were captured alive.

Apparently the was a G5 that had a faulty shell that killed loaders days after arriving in south Angola. I can't find the link now but I remember reading about it and it wasn't on the Russian propaganda website (we know how they tend to tell propaganda about the whole battle).

If I find a link at any given time, I'll post it up.

Jake, could you make a Nigerian battlefield video using this theme song used in this Philippines army video?

I'll help source for battle field videos. I'm already thinking about some Deen-ex videos. The one were he was firing a grenade, the dancing one and the one were he is firing his assault weapon.

There are some YouTube videos i could also source content.

Morocco to Buy Russian S-400 Air Defense Missiles

Morocco will soon acquire an S-400 air defense system from Russia, reported Russian media on November 9. The mighty ground-to-air missiles are meant to reinforce the kingdom’s military anti-aircraft defense.

What started as media speculations during the visit of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev are turning out to be more than mere rumors.

Last October, the two countries signed 11 agreements, and while Medvedev announced Russia’s decision to “deliver military equipment” to Morocco, the prime minister did not disclose the nature of these products.

As talks about purchase of military weapons were widely relayed by local and international media, it is the Russian press that confirmed the news yesterday, by announcing that Morocco will soon acquire S-400 batteries.

The anti-aircraft and missile defense system includes radars that would be able to shoot 80 targets and control up to 160 missiles, explained the source. This new asset will provide an edge to Morocco’s army defense capabilities, as the Russian system has a range of 400 kilometers and can shoot down up to 80 targets simultaneously, aiming two missiles at each one.

The S-400 can also destroy stealth aircraft, cruise and ballistic missiles, drones and other airborne surveillance systems at a 3,500-kilometer distance, at a speed of 4.8 kilometers per second.

The missile’s long-range surveillance radar tracks objects and relays information to the command vehicle, which assesses potential targets. When a target is identified, the command vehicle offers the missile launch.

The launch data is then sent to the best-placed launch vehicle, which it releases surface-to-air missiles. The engagement radar helps guide the missiles towards the chosen target.

While the cost of this new deal have not been disclosed by the source, in September, Turkey had acquired the same S-400 anti-aircraft missiles at EUR 2.14 billion. Turkey is not the only one to possess this type of weapon. Algeria and China also acquired the Russian missiles, while Saudi Arabia and India are planning to purchase it as well https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2017/11/233558/morocco-russia-defense-air-missiles/

What is that?

Cessna C208 Caravan - in tactical reconnaissance configuration

11 were upgraded to this standard under Project Koilier

They are fitted with the Argos 410-Z stabilised airborne observation system
- "latest" generation thermal imager (in 2008)
- a 3-CCD daylight TV camera with powerful zoom lens
- eye-safe laser rangefinder
- autotracker
- Mission Awareness Positioning System (MAPS). The MAPS function provides the operator with GPS coordinates of "objects of interest" by means of a high accuracy integrated inertial measurement unit.

Built to military specifications, the thermal imager offers four fields of view and advanced image processing features, including edge enhancement, local adaptive dynamic compression and electronic zoom. The Caravan is equipped with a removable onboard operator station which is data linked to a ground station, providing the joint operations centre with a real-time imagery.

it seems botswana is also interested on T-50 Golden Eagle

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is in talks with nine nations with a view to selling further examples of its T-50 Golden Eagle advanced jet trainer and its FA-50 light attack derivative.

To date, KAI has exported 145 training aircraft – comprising both the T-50 family and the turboprop KT-1 basic trainer. The total value of these sales is US$3.7bn.

KAI President and Chief Executive Kim Jo-won confirmed last Friday that negotiations to sell Golden Eagles to Argentina and Botswana and Argentina are at an “advanced stage”. He added that he expected a positive outcome of these talks later this year or early next.

In each case, sales of the T-50 series to Argentina or Botswana would require loans from South Korean banks.

South Korea’s own Ministry of National Defense (MND) announced plans to acquire additional TA-50 trainer/light attack aircraft on September 26. In a statement the MND noted that more TA-50s were needed to meet expanding air-combat training requirements. The number of aircraft to be procured was not revealed but deliveries are expected to begin in 2019. The aircraft will likely replace soon-to-be-withdrawn F-5F trainers.

The Republic of Korea Air Force’s (RoKAF’s) 115th Flying Training Squadron currently operates 22 TA-50s, which entered service in 2011. The aircraft is a further development of the T-50 Golden Eagle advanced jet trainer suitable for lead-in fighter training and light attack missions

This probably explains the delay for the NAF:

"However, the PAF announced in early 2017 that another 12 Block IIs would be built in 2018 to bridge the gap in production caused by delays to the more sophisticated Block III"

The recce Cessna is among the tools Col Dixon in Bangui requested and didn't get.
As for that wasteful carbuncle SARA, it would be too fast, not enough loiter time etc, for such a role. It was conceived with one purpose in mind, massaging politicians' egos. Entirely incidental that the project serves to keep experienced aeronautical engineers in Denel, and give purpose to the youngsters.
Meanwhile more worthy projects are starved of funds.
But, I shall be completely zen this week grin grin grin.

At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, Remembrance Day commemorated in various places in SA.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Swahili, Portugues, French and Arabic are the recommended foreign languages in the SANDF, as they are AU official languages. The former 2 are taught in-house - due to the exile experience of ex-MK soldiers and people born in the countries with those languages - whilst the latter 2 are outsourced.
It's mandatory for SF to master 2 to qualify as operators.
