We can run with a lie but we can never hide from the Truth - A popular quote
My chief well done you have done well
Let the truth sink into his quack head cheesy
I thought you calmed down. But its obvious that your beef for SLTs is still very much alive. For your information, ASLTON and AMLSN Delta and Kano State Chapters were in court of recent because AMLSN came questioning our rights to operate a testing laboratory. The both ACT was finally explained by the court. Finally, ASLTON got victory and their Laboratories were reopened. Go and find out these for yourself. SLT graduates with the NISLT License operate testing Laboratories in Delta, Rivers, Kano etc...... Please do know we are not struggling with you over your Diagnostic laboratories. You can retain the name for the registration of your Business with CAC. Take ASLTON to court if you have any issue and stop attacking childlishly on nairaland.

To all SLT graduates/NISLT Members, know that you can operate your own testing laboratory go through the NISLT ACT but leave the name Medical yyyy for these haters. Do your Publicity well and be very good in your field and you will attract your clients/patients.

And you had to quote me?
Now you have my attention.
Well congratulations on your victory (not like I'm aware of such).
In as much as I'm trying to understand you and do that correctly I'd want you to educate me please.
1. What's a testing lab and is it any different from a diagnostic laboratory?
2. What does this testing laboratory entail?

Though my first time of hearing the word "testing lab" as this nomenclature doesn't even exist in NISLT Act.
Please do educate me... Thank you

If I might ask, with your SLT certificate can you sit for the American Society
for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) licensing exam and work in America clinical Laboratories and hospitals??

Hello house.. Please I have 2 questions

1) which is more lucrative between MLS and Human Nutrition? If you have sites I can go to, drop the link, I'll appreciate it.

2) do MLS go for house job like Drs?

I'm trying to compare and contrast MLS and Human Nutrition.. I have an opportunity to cross to either in my school. Please helpful comments are welcome.

I have a degree in Science Laboratory Technology specialist in Biochemistry and Chemistry. I think the said Clinical Pathology is not different from Chemical Pathology/Clinical Biochemistry/Chemistry as they can be used interchangeably. In America, Degree holders in Biochemistry can erol for the said exam and work as Clinical/Chemical Pathologist. If i so wish i can enrol for the said exam and get the license by ASCP to work as a Clinical Pathologist.

Your issue is that you are not willing to learn and be educated. Ignorance is really a disease. If you wish to be educated more get the rules and regulations that guides all NISLT Licensed member, specifically page 20. I'm willing to help if you can't get that. Attached is a snap shot of the said page.

OK by implication if I get this correctly SLT offers both radiological and medical laboratory services?
2. The services listed here were you taught about it or you feel it's something you can do?
3. Did NISLT not plagiarise the MLSCN for relevance? Cos to the best of my knowledge these services and testing aren't contained in NISLT as to scope of practice.
4. I wonder if these services are now done in secondary school and tertiary school lab as stipulated in NISLT.
5. The radiological and clinical laboratory testing what aspect of SLT does it fall under?
6. Are these rules and regulations different from what is contained in the main NISLT Act?

Instead of you to type what you have no idea about just visit their site and see those eligible.

ASCP is opened to two groups alone. Don't ever repeat this outside Clinical Pathology isn't same as and it's different from Chemical pathology. Or you want to tell me you're eligible to be a fellow Royal college of pathology

1. I don't know which is more lucrative (this is Nigeria) but as regards job aspects + pay, MLS is. MLS starts work at GL10 while Nut starts at GL8. The job prospects is another.

2. Yes and compulsory before NYSC

3. With your BMLS you can work in any country in the world that's how sweet it is just that you have to take their certification and licentiate exams to obtain one.

2. The services listed here were you taught about it or you feel it's something you can do?

We were taught according to our areas of specializations. NB: The photo i sent to you is silent about your Medical Laboratory Services because it is understood you are only relevant there. The testing laboratories include Clinical Biochemistry which i was taught as a specialist in Biochemistry. I was also trained in immunology/immunochemistry, Heamatology, Serology etc.
3. Did NISLT not plagiarise the MLSCN for relevance? Cos to the best of my knowledge these services and testing aren't contained in NISLT as to scope of practice.

Plagarise You derive your strength from controversies. I have told you already that it is contained in NISLT rules & regulations. You aren't a member and you can't have access to all NISLT documents.

4. I wonder if these services are now done in secondary school and tertiary school lab as stipulated in NISLT. NB: Members can operate in the Laboratories of various institutions. Is primary and tetiary Health facilities not also referred to as health institutions?

5. The radiological and clinical laboratory testing what aspect of SLT does it fall under?

NISLT members operate within the confines of their area of Specializations. e.g Biomedical Technology, Microbiology/Virology, Biochemistry/Chemistry, Physiology/Pharmacology, etc

Okay thanks for the education it's good to learn but biomedical technology I learnt is the new name for physiology / pharmacology technology.
Clear me if this is wrong cos I know FUTO and UNIPORT have replaced the name physiology / pharmacology technology with biomedical technology.

That aside the radiological and clinical testing laboratory what aspect of SLT does that fall under? I mean Histopathology, Haematology, cytopathology, cytogenetics, molecular biology, blood transfusion etc.

And are these rules and regulations different from the ones in NISLT Act?

You made mention of patients but a document from NISLT states plants and animals. Why the double standards (if you care for I can show you)

Whatever. But do know that in the U.S Biochemist go ahead to specialize in Chemical Pathology and even become consultants.

Uniport never had Physiology/Pharmacology but Biomedical Technology as an option. FUTO just started and they don't have it as an option.

Maybe you didn't read my response very well. As a Specialist in Biochemistry we are trained all aspect of Clinical Biochemistry, Tissues and organ Biochemistry of which the blood/blood Transfusion Science or Heamatology in its entirety was treated properly. Immunology/Immunochemistry, Cytogenetics, Molecular Biology was also part of our curriculum. Of course there is no Immunology without Serology.

Those in Biomedical Technology do justice to Histopathology.

So you don't keep asking me controversial questions. As a Specialist in Biochemistry i can operate a testing Laboratory in either Clinical Biochemistry, Heamatology, Immunology/Serology.

NISLT deal with Clients/Patients also. Stop trying to act as though you know a lot about NISLT. I spent almost 6 Years studying SLT. I also attached to a NISLT Lab for a year after graduation before i went for NYSC. So you don't know more than i do. The Ethics of NISLT was properly explained to me and I'm schooled in it.

Stop struggling to proove that SLT has a lesser scope. We have a more wider scope than the MLS.

If you want to know more about SLT i do advice you to enrol with Jamb by the end of this month and choose any university e.g Delsu, Uniport, Uniben. Then you will be educated.

No I'm not saying SLT has a lesser scope in the real sense it has a broader scope than even MLS but what I don't understand is trying to incorporate what isn't in your scope to yours to prove relevance eg Histopathology, Histochemistry, cytopathology, cytogenetics, Haematology, blood transfusion science etc

Pic 4-6: curriculum for biomedical technology of which Histopathology, cytopathology and cytogenetics are evidently absent. So where did they train you in that.

And besides I know you graduated from Uniport 2015/2016 and was inducted same year and you started NYSC almost immediately I think early in the year or so.

I have the curriculum of all schools running SLT in Nigeria and even polytechnics. I have documents from NISLT as to what graduates of SLT should practice on (plant, animal, soil, industrial, drug assessment for NAFDAC of recent). You are talking to an enlightened mind bro

And again in the US, holders of biochemistry degree are not certified in anything clinical let alone become consultants. You are a holder of SLT (biochemistry technology)and you are not same as Bsc biochemistry. You are trained to man their labs and not associated with them.

Thanks

MLS students offer some pharmacology courses in there 400level, does that make them a pharmacist, or work in the capacity of a pharmacist??

All medical students offer there counterparts course, but each profession is distinct. With my Clinical experience, I can do some work as a nurse, pharm radio e.t.c. But am a quack in that field, it is not an acceptable practice anywhere in the world. if you are biochemist, microbiologist e.t.c tow your path. Just because you offer a 5unit course in a field doesn't make you an authority in there.

In Lautech , they offer both MLS ( college of health) and SLT ( faculty of science). The only course they offer together is Bch 201. No similarities between the two.

Am sure he course content will show more fact( if you choose to accept). or maybe SLT curriculum is not the same thing in the federation.

You strive in ignorance. Is the study of Blood, Liver (LFT), Kidney (Renal Function), inborn errors of metabolism not under tissue and organ. So you didn't see Biochemistry/Immunochemistry techniques on the curriculum?

I have shown you what's in the Rules and Regulations. Accept or leave it. Meet any NISLT member close and plead to see that our scope covers the testing laboratories aforementioned.

You are just a chronic liar. SLT is 5yrs in Uniport dear, as it awards B.Tech. Even the curriculum you posted is till year 5.

My brother that's not the NISLT rules and regulations those are plagiarised MLSCN Act to act relevant. Show me that in NISLT Act and I will give you a copy of where it had been plagiarised from. Lol......Wow! You have even traced me to my FB Acct. Good job. Get into your brain that your are a lion. Unijos is actually 5yrs.

NB: I'm not just a holder of Biochemistry Degree but SLT (Biochemistry/Chemistry) with an accompanying licence to carry Laboratory analysis in any field that is linked with it.

It has actually become personal. That i was inducted in 2016 doesn't mean i graduated then huh. You are too daft to comprehend. If you have not been told, it takes close to a year for SSLT Board Uniport to clear a student for graduation, due to its high sense of ensuring professionalism. I was inducted early February 2016. So do the maths if you are knowledgeable enough.

If what you did in tissue and organ Biochemistry is what you are hinging on to say you did Haematology, Chemical pathology and blood transfusion science then you deserve arrest

Common sense doesn't tell you that Project defence with an external examiner comes up after final exams. And my final exam was in March, 2015.

Advice: Always ask questions on what you don't know stop behaving like you know it all.

Anyway it has been a nice time with you. I must confess you are Smart. You know your business as well as mine. Kudos!!! No beef with you please. Like you said we are friends. I guess you want to contest for AMLSN Chairman of your Chapter someday?

Yeah I knew you were writing exams March 17, 2017 lol.

Anything I find confusing, I seek answers and I read vast till I get answers that is meaningful to my course.

Same here it's been nice with you even though you called me daft severally cheesy (no qualms). I'm Catholic in taste and I read wide so I know outside my scope but I understand my limitations.

Yeah we're friends and has been for long you just don't know me (the enemy of my enemy is my friend). As for politics, I've never been interested since time immemorial (I'm a good follower).

Have yourself a nice day.

Look at my people.

Few years ago, she entered one of the labs in UCH. At a glance you would know she was a student and you could almost tell exactly what she needed.

She was holding a normal size brown evelope from which she brought out some white papers. 'I wish to do my SIWES here sir', she handed the stuff over to me in a manner a student who is willing to get an offer does.

'So, what do you desire to become at the end of your training', I supported myself on the adge of a table.
'Weeellll.....Em, to work in the lab the way you are doing', she wasn't so confident.

'I know you know what you are talking about, but you have taken Ife/Ibadan expressway earnestly hoping to arrive at Ikeja Lagos to take a flight out of the country. And you know what? You are in a good car, so, you are on a high speed to a wrong destination'.
'What!!!? She seemed to be totally frozen on that spot.

'Now, let's talk about it', I sat confortably on a chair and asking her to sit as well.
'There is a mix-up somewhere', she took a seat. She appeared to be processing a billion information in her brain at a time

'What you are doing in your Polytechnic is called Science Laboratory Technology- SLT and what I am about to enlighten you on now is Medical Laboratory Science- MLS', I opened wide my eyes with my eyebrows lifted as if those words were coming out from them.
'Yes Sir, they are the same thing', she moved uneasily on the chair as if she wants to convince me it is true.

'Be patient', I shifted a bit forward to the edge of my chair. ' Starting from the name: both are Laboratory Sciences but one is Medical, the other is non Medical.'
'Really'? She seemed to be getting it.

'Medical means it is a practice of medicine and it relates to human health and you must be licensed to practice when you are done with your training.' I shifted more forward, sitting on just few inches of the chair.
'But some of our seniors finished as microbiologists'? She brightened up as if she was about to box me into a corner.

I took a very broad smile. ' My sister, there is a difference between a microbiologists' and a Medical Microbiologists; I'd leave you to Google that. That aren't the same'
'It's okay,' she balanced herself well on the chair.

'So, in a nutshell, you need to leave the Polytechnic and go to the university to bag a degree called Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science-BMLS if you still wish to fulfill your desire. When you finish, you will be inducted into the MLS profession and will be licensed to practice. For how long have you been in the Polytechnic?'
'A year plus'.

'Well, it is better for you to lose a year plus as a student, than to do a course for four years and later discover that it was a four years of mistake. As I see you, you are still in your twenties. It is not too late'.
'I'll go and think about it Sir', she picked her bag and stood to her feet.

What she did there after I do not know.

After that same lady, I cannot count others who have come for SIWES, aiming at becoming a Medical Laboratory Scientist. We keep counselling them. In fact, one of them said that in the Polytechnic, they call them- those doing SLT- 'doctors'. You know what that means? They are celebrating them while they sit on keg of gun powder.

Please help me enlighten my people by sharing this message, you might save a vibrant young chap from a professional ghastly accident. Many gave up to fate after the mistake. Help rescue them before they make it.

They say, ' a stitch in time saves nine'.

If you are doing SLT-, be sure that is exactly what you want to do. There is nothing wrong with SLT, it is just that it takes you to a different destination. With SLT, you become someone else entirely, not a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
SLT is not MLS!
SLT is not MLS!!
SLT is not MLS!!!
Don't be mistaken.

Please Find out well before you make your choice. Wrong choice could be very painful.

Thank you.

God bless you bro. More power to u

SLT and their comparism everytime.student in all departments really need sincere orientation about their course.I said SINCERE because most departmental orientations are lies and that is what SLT and other BMS are suffering from.MLS is an all encompassing discipine.SLT that is always comparing, are your courses from THE COLLEGE OF MEDCINE in your school? Or just from your department in Faculty of Science.I ask again,SLT is your Department attached to any TEACHING HOSPITAL for adequate exposure(2000hrs)/real life experience(not normal school practicals) before graduation? I have seen SLT curriculum and it has been posted here again and again or is the curriculum fake.i wonder why these arguments still come up.someone up there said he can carryout haematology/BGS tests with the crash course he did in BCH.
