can you people use something called the human development index (HDI) to make ur arguments instead of bringing in the issue of what place has the biggest slum and which one has more slums..at the end of the day it matters how the average citizen is able to enjoy basic services..its not about fancy skyscrapers either.. that's why countries like Gabon and Comoros are considered one of the richest countries in Africa..cause the average person lives so comfortably.. pls forget this slum argument..it's getting so irritating!!

We've been through that before. Kenya's HDI is a few points above Nigeria's. Small countries usually lead big ones in hdi if you consider the manifest problems of running big countries especially in a place like Africa. If with all the chaos and corruption in Nigeria, Kenya is just slightly better in hdi, then Kenya is far from being the heaven your compatriots here are making it out to be. And FYI, even hdi has been found wanting in recent times. Let's cite the country you mentioned, Gabon, by way of illustration. Gabon is ranked far ahead of South Africa in hdi but according to several accounts Gabon is among Africa's poorest nations. So it would be stupid of anyone to say Gabon is ahead of South Africa. The size of the South African economy and society create more opportunities and influence than what a small country like Gabon will give.Many would rather be Chinese than Singaporean. Well this is debatable.

what I'm saying is, the average person in the countries I mentioned lives way better than the average person in some advanced economies. I'd rather live where my basic necessities are catered for rather than where the government invests big in skyscrapers and big highways.

I get you but what I am saying is that if we follow the Gabonese case the average citizen in Kenya even lives better than the average Gabonese despite Gabon's very high HDi. Unemployment and inequality are higher there than most African countries.In a nutshell, black Africa is doing very badly and I would rather we held our leaders more accountable than we do instead of posting pictures of exclusive areas and denying those poor souls in our slums.

Whats the issue with the way they doing it?

Think of it as trying to build a pyramid from the top down.....Government has all these wonderful transformation targets for our national teams but they do fvckall to develop the game at grass root level. You can't expect your National team to be 50% players(and coaches) of colour yet only around 15% of all registered rugby players are Black/Coloured.....but you still expect the team to be picked on merit.

Another thing that irritates me is the fact that all Currie Cup, Super Rugby and even some internationals are only broadcast on Super Sport(DSTV) and never on SABC which means the majority of South Africans never get to watch rugby on their TVs and thus there is almost no interest in Rugby from the majority of Black South Africans.

In a perfect world where the Government and SARU actually did their job, our Rugby(and even our Cricket team) would be 70-80% Players of colour and we would dominate like no country has before, If we can win 2 world cups with less than a fifth(20%) of our potential talent pool imagine what we could do with 50-60%.

about the real percentage..hmm I don't really know. what i do know is these NGOs tend to over exaggerate figures for funding purposes..many ppl know this..and remember lots of international NGOs are located in Nairobi, they would benefit from over exaggerating the figures.. I do know Nairobi's population is around 3 million and they say kibera's population is around 1mil which can't be true given the amount of middle class estates that are fully occupied all around... maybe they just consider the fact that slum families tend to have so many children...

haha please tell people like Sirjerry who are gullible enough to be fooled by these international NGOs. in fact a 2009 Kenyan housing census found the population of Kibera to be just around 200,000 and not 1 million. but obviously foreigners who have never stepped inside the country know better. maybe they should come and do their own personal census if they so badly want the numbers to reach 1 million lol
