Off Topic: While Diplomats & Military Commanders from Harare to Abuja to Pretoria and foreign capitals are grappling with Zimbabwe right now I might just be taking an interest in the Super Eagles again. I had previously gone on Nigerian football sabbatical lol! This new mix of guys just walloped Argentina 4-2 following a stream of other successes. It was a training match for the Eagles. Akpeyi's sins gave the South Americans the consolation of 2 goals. Brilliant effort guys!

Errm away from the Zimbabwean issue, doesn't anyone here think the dss agents providing CQ protection for the president are a little too 'middle aged'?

Pretoria lacks the muscle to coerce the Generals. Abuja would be keeping an eye on things down there. A coup would be the nuclear option upending AU statutes. Nigeria may acquiesce with a back room deal with the sworn enemies of the old man to see him go quietly with dignity.

During the Iran/Iraq war Saddam's G-5's were blowing barrels. Most likely cause were crews firing at full charge and exceeding their ROF overheating their barrels.

Apparently Saddam was furious and Armscor was asked to find the cause. A friend of mine who worked at Somchem was part of the project. He told me they had to "catch" a 155mm round intact after it was fired to see what was happening with the barrel. They tried some interesting techniques to achieve this. If I told you, you wouldn't believe the story.
The ones at the museum might be one of these test barrels or one used in development of the gun.

The pick of the old 140mm on the Kwe was from a arms show from the late 80's. Think it was just a feasibility demonstrator for the army.

ActivateKruger:

Apparently the was a G5 that had a faulty shell that killed loaders days after arriving in south Angola. I can't find the link now but I remember reading about it and it wasn't on the Russian propaganda website (we know how they tend to tell propaganda about the whole battle).

If I find a link at any given time, I'll post it up.

On Nairaland we have our ways, how do you think Henry predicted the Yahbon drones months in advance before NAF verified the story? The OCEA boats, NNS Karaduwa. Hehehe bros calm down, the secrecy has been nothing but a minor hinderance grin

Yes secrecy is over, but for NA and NN level of public info is still third world backward. NAF is at very very early stage with Russia, no MOU, no paper work, nothing, yet they declare NAF is interested in mig-29M2/mig-35 to match Egypt, plus yak-130. The yabhon UAV you talk of is a story Henry picked from NAF public announcement. In Europe, before they buy cow dung or chicken shit for their military they announce years ahead to start public debate so that tax payers can comment for 2 to 4 years on the procurement. In Europe you dont defend citizens with weapons they dont hear about or get its full details published in news media before you can be bold to spend government money to buy. NA and NN should wake up, they spend our money not their salary. Kudos to NAF, and best of luck with mig-35 + yak 130, let air power return to West Africa as in the jaguar jet days when Pietha Botha's Apartheid South Africa trembles when they see giant of Africa NAF flying 266 aircraft, including 24 mbb helicopter gunships, 130 fighter jets led by 19 jaguars, 33 mig-21s, supported by alpha jets, aeramacchi jets, albatross jets, delfin jets.

Well thanks LtGen, they don't know we do our home work. SA walks away and will walk away cos it lacks the capacity to change things on the ground. The military intervention threat dimension is absent in SABC. Zim military may have been hit by sanctions but it is still a potent threat for which SA has no answer. Just imagine say Niger is in such crisis as we've seen before, we don't even deploy troops we tell the politicians and boys in the Army what to do and they do it knowing the consequences. Long story short, Nigeria along with the AU and partners will sort this out.

Please if u are going to talk about sanction ask ur self why and who placed it on Zim in the first place I will admit Zim could have taken advantage of it like SA did. Don't say corruption because I am guessing it is worse in ur country. Whose interest are u basing ur opinion I personally don't care much about the man since he was once a Brit puppet but what do we stand to gain. Now u will be calling the international community to help ZIm well guess what if they gave dem they will sanction the Saudis from funding terrorist like Boko Haram that are killing Africans. If u do not have a solution that have Africans as the lead role and beneficiaries but westerners forget it.

Sanctions were placed on Zimbabwe because they violated international law, as well being guilty of numerous human rights abuses
No, Zim is more corrupt than RSA
I want him removed because he is a ruthless dictator who destroyed his nation and has caused untold harm and suffering across SSA

Am not dragging any argument. If NAF kept shut about yabhon drone nobody will smell any fish. Announcement is not always formal, CAS can drop a tiny statement while saying a different thing and you pick his next move, because he has announced informally. Sometimes you see them in photos, Abuja guys saw AVM Alex Badeh's photo with a JF-17 plastic model table display and all knew JF-17 is coming in future without CAS saying a word. None of us here is in the sitting room of any chief of air staff to hear all he says everyday. Guy stop talking about something you don’t know, on this thread we always always announce stuff that the general public doesn’t know yet.
There’s literally no argument there stop making one.

ZIMBABWE

- Gunfire near residence of president Robert Mugabe

- Four explosions heard in capital, military vehicles seen on streets

“Soldiers are reported to have taken over the headquarters of Zimbabwe's national broadcaster, ZBC, amid a growing political crisis.
Heavy gunfire and artillery have also been heard in northern suburbs, although the situation is unclear.
There has been no word so far from 93-year-old President Robert Mugabe.
Zimbabwe's ambassador in South Africa, Isaac Moyo, dismissed any talk of a coup and said the government was "intact".
The worsening situation came after Zimbabwe's ruling party accused the country's army chief of "treasonable conduct" after he warned of possible military intervention....

Zimbabwe is a sovereign state - we have no right to interfere in their internal affairs. If they request assistance they shall receive it.

If you werent such an ignoramus you would be well aware that South Africa has effected great change in Zimbabwe over the past (Who is Thabo Mbeki? What is back-room diplomacy? Who are the MDC?)

Augustine, you need to realize that your childlike ramblings have no place in this thread - even other Nigerians are starting to call you out on your bullsh1t. Go back to beegeagles blog - people seem to like your grandiose fantasies there.

In order for the SA to militarily intervene SADC has to approve. Once approved, other countries like Botswana and Zambia should also contribute BUT I don't think they'll bother at this moment. Botswana wants Mugabe gone so the only action you'll see from their side is massive border enforcement just in case Zim refugees run towards it..... As for South Africa, Zuma/ANC has its eyes in the next month's party elections. Chances are, he won't even be South Africa's president by end of January.

NB: South African parliament won't approve the deployment of the SANDF to protect a dictatorship, the President is only stuck with only 400 soldiers.....

So, let's relax and look forward to Black Friday specials.

What some forget here is that it is in some SADC countries interest that there is a shakeup in Zim especially SA and Botswana who has barred the brunt of Zim instability. A coup is never an option and should be condemned, but its a necessary evil to stop the Mugabe dynasty extension.

There is only two ways this could end up for Zim and I hope it ends in credible democratic elections without any foreign meddling.

At this point I agree with ANC's stance of non interference and diplomacy, because any military intervention would lead to a regional crisis, with losses no SADC nation can absorb. Zim is not Gambia who accepted regional military intervention.

At best I would say SA who currently holds the SADC chairmanship should send envoys to Zim urgently to asses the situation, but SADC should allow the political processes in Zim to unfold democratically and peacefully.
