Eagles Rated Vs Argentina

Completesportsnigeria.com’s ADEBOYE AMOSU rates the Super Eagles players following the team’ impressive 4-2 comeback win against Argentina at the Krasnodar Stadium, Krasnodar, Russia on Tuesday…

DANIEL AKPEYI 3/10
Offered the chance to impress following his unimpressive showing in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa early in the year, he failed to make the best use of the opportunity. He committed an elementary error that led to the Argentines first goal and was poor all through.

OLA AINA 5/10
A real baptism of fire on the international scene for the young defender. The left-back struggled to cope with the pace and trickery of Ever Banega and it was not a surprise he was pulled out at half time.

CHIDOZIE AWAZIEM 6/10
A better showing from the big defender compared to his previous outing against South Africa. Looks sure to get more game time ahead of the World Cup.

LEON BALOGUN 5/10
The FC Mainz defender was badly positioned for the Argentines’ second goal. It was an average evening for the usually reliable central defender who was exposed by Sergio Aguero and Angel Di Maria.

WILLIAM TROOST-EKONG 7/10
Was shaky like some of his teammates in the first half but recovered well and helped stabilize the defence after the break. He was excellent after the break.

SHEHU ABDULLAHI 5/10

Average performance from the usually brilliant righ-back who was duly substituted after the break.

WILFRED NDIDI 6/10
Performed his task well especially in the second half and helped in protecting the defence. Came close to getting a goal in the second half.

JOHN OGU 6/10
A decent showing from the Israeli-based defender who has no doubt enhanced his chances of making the final World Cup squad.

MIKEL OBI 7/10
A superb display from the skipper of the team. Mikel led by example and showed his importance in the team with another impressive performance, holding the midfield together with composure.

ALEX IWOBI 8/10
Came to life after the break following an insipid display in the first half. The Arsenal winger scored two beautiful goals and was a constant threat to the Argentina defenders who struggled to cope with his pace and intelligence.

KELECHI IHEANACHO 7/10
Ihenacho scored a sublime free kick and provided two assists to help Nigeria record an unlikely victory against the Albiceleste after going down 2-0 earlier in the game.

SUBSTITUTES
FRANCIS UZOHO 6/10

The young goalkeeper showed great composure beyond his age. Proved he has a future in the team with a good performance.

TYRONE EBUEHI 6/10
Showed his class with a superlative showing after coming on in the place of Shehu Abdullahi after the break. It will be difficult not to hand a starting spot in the team’s next game on the basis of this performance.

BRYAN IDOWU 6/10
What a debut for Idowu who scored Nigeria third goal on the night. He is surely a big asset for the team.

KENNETH OMERUO 5/10
Took the place of Leon Balogun in the second half and showed his experience by helping ward off the threats of the Argentines who were determined to get a suitable result from the game.

AHMED MUSA 5/10
Made an immediate impact by providing the assist for Alex Iwobi’s fourth goal. Showed he still has what it takes to play for the team.

KAYODE OLANREWAJU
NOT RATED

But Mikel was in Chelsea for years or are you saying Chelsea is not a classy team?

Sentiments!

You obviously know little of Pirlo. I no wan continue this one boss.

Chelsea never played classy football.

Yes, Ndidi has definitely upped his game. These two games - against Algeria last Friday and today - are two of his best performances in the Super Eagles shirt.

And guess what Onazi wasn't playing in those 2 games..

2018 World Cup: Ike Shorunmu suggests Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper SPORT

Published on November 14, 2017

By John Owen Nwachukwu

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu has said that Ikechukwu Ezenwa is good enough to be the Super Eagles number 1 goalkeeper.

Shorunmu, who spoke to Complete Sports, noted that Ezenwa can be Eagles first-choice keeper at the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup despite calls for the recall of the retired Vincent Enyeama.
In recent games, coach Gernot Rohr has preferred Ezenwa in goal ahead of the likes of Daniel Akpeyi, Dele Alampasu and Dele Ajiboye.

Ezenwa’s came under criticism for his poor display in last Friday’s fixture against Algeria with some already clamouring for the return of the experienced Enyeama ahead of the World Cup.

Shorunmu insisted the former junior international is good enough to maintain his position between the sticks at the mundial.
He said, “Footballers have off days and I don’t think it is fair for anyone to crucify Ezenwa on the basis of his performance in just one game.
“He did well in all the previous games and we need to encourage him and not castigate him.
“I believe he has all the ability to become even better that is if we all give him our support and not crucify him.”

Who remembers when we used to be contented with just 1-0?

This year alone we've beaten Togo 3-0, Cameroon 4-0, Algeria 3-1, Argentina 4-2.

Something good is happening

I am happy for the A-rated friendly.

Mediocres/ backdoor guys a.k.a egunje candidates are being exposed.

Akpeyi has no business with the GWG shirt.

Aina is overrated.

Ebuehi is pure class.

Iheanacho is our only FK taker.

Mikel is holds the keys to our midfield.

Musa's best days are behind him.

And Idowu is a gem.....not many players score with thier first touch in thier first game.

O parry and Finito.
Aina is a RB .He is being played out of position. So, don't say he is over-rated.

I do not remember reading that part. Maybe it his opinion from what he notices from the style of Rohr. He can be timid in his set-up and style. I hope he noticed how fierce we can be with bravery.

I think Rohr is deeper tactically than lots feel. However, I think because he does not have enough time to work with his boys, he is building it up slowly. I earlier pointed Jardim of Monaco and Mancini in his City time. They were timid and later grew their teams into fierce attacking sides.

Yes, I remember we had some argument on his ability. It was the day you mentioned Manchini and Jardim and ended by saying we should give him time that I saw you understand the matter.
What's happening is organic, it's a slow build. Thankfully we have close to seven months before the World Cup.

Did anyone notice Ndidi's celebration after the equalizer? The passion!!! He won the ball, passed to Iheanacho who laid it for Iwobi.

To be candid with Brian Idowu's performance today, Aina is left floating. Do we take him to right back or leave him to fight with Echiejile and Idowu at LB?

Brian Idowu has something going for him and it played out today: He is based in Russia. He will definitely be very comfortably with the weather and also many of the pitches. He right now stands a better chance of being in Russia than Aina.

Yea Idowu had a classical game but i still see Aina making the team than Echiejele cos of his versatility but hope to see Aina at RB likely he may be better than Shehu and Ebuehi cos the boy Ebuhei does it with ease than Shehu based on the match i watched today even Rohr was surprised cos he didn't believe much on Ebuhei.

"We are very happy and excited with this development. This is the first time since I started playing for the senior team that I would see everything regarding preparation and bonuses and allowances put down in black and white and a binding agreement executed. It is reassuring that we now have a Federation leadership so committed to making everything work that they arranged this meeting and allowed the players to contribute and then set out to sign the agreement,” Mikel Obi said.

That midfield is already choked up. If Aina wants to make it to Russia he must prove he is better than one of or both of Shehu and Ebuehi.

What can even make things worse or let me say more competitive for the RB position is if Rohr chooses to adopt the 3-5-2 he played today. It means a player like Victor Moses would have to contest for the RWB position of which he would be favorite and that means we may just need one from the RBs to be a back up.

It'd be bad of Rorh going to Russia with one formation in mind. He should pick a large range of players that'd suit most of the formations he chooses. I'm glad, we're blessed with versatile players this time around.

I w never rate the present Echiejele over Aina.

Yea he has Ebuhei and Abdullahi to contend with but don't be surprised if you find out he is better than the duo cos Ebuhei that a lot don't reckon with even the coaches has split us now, some for Abdullahi some for Ebuhei just cos of today's match.

Am just to happy for this team the competition for positions is building up,i know Shehu w be watching his back and Echiejele w now know that Idowu and Aina are there for him to compete with not like before strolling to camp as only LB

I wouldn't call him an !d!ot, that's to harsh.

I'd rather say he's served his purpose for the team and his time is up.
My brother, forget being polite for a second. Akpeyi made a big mess of himself, I'm unapologetic calling him an idiott.
I earned a reputation on this thread as an Akpeyi's defender since the South African game. But on the back of this performance, he deserves any insult that came his way.

We are talking about a man who have played football at the highest level for more than a decade, playing across several levels in the national team and the continent. I mean, how can this guy be so star struck on sighting Aguero that he totally forgot the basic law of the game.
It's akin to seeing an experienced doctor forgetting a pair of scissors inside the belly of a patient after surgery.

I wonder why he wasn't red carded in the first place? Akpeyi is a fo^ol.. No apologies there my brother.
I wish Rohr gave him a resounding slap in the dressing room.

I'm so angry with DSTV ehn... I went to the viewing centre like 5 times today, they didn't open...I even ran to the home of the center owner to inform him that AIT and NTA will show the match grin he wasn't at home..
Had to switch off my phone due to anxiety.. switched it on 3 hours later and rushed to nairaland...I saw 2-4 on FP gringrin I no trust NL mods at all so I ran to goal.com and livescore.com grin grin. Mehn I was so happy grin

I'm very happy for Ebuehi ehn ..the dude finally got his chance and he didn't let it slip.. TBH,Rohr will be faced with a selection headache for the final 23 man squad.. Brian Idowu also made his mark..

As for Akpeyi, Sir Icon79, me and u shall visit a native doctor very soon to make sure he is never invited to the super eagles team again, cus it seems like our goalkeeper trainer are too lazy to do their job...BTW,I saw the highlight and I'm so impressed with Uzoho.. f##k those who will say he isn't experienced... let's groom him and he will turn out good...

My ridiculously early prediction of Rohr’s 23-man World Cup squad... cheesy

GKs - Uzoho, Ezenwa, Alampasu (if Enyeama doesn’t return)

Defenders - Idowu, Echiejile, Ebuehi, Aina, Ekong, Balogun, Omeruo, Awaziem.

Midfielders - Mikel Obi, Shehu Abdullahi, Onazi, John Ogu, Ndidi, Joel Obi/Mikel Agu.

Forwards - Iwobi, Iheanacho, Kayode, V. Moses, Onyekuru, Ighalo.

Having a 6ft 5in player, in Uzoho, as our goalkeeper is massive. He will gobble up most of our opponents’ crosses, for sure. And if he plays at the WC, he will become the tallest Nigerian player ever at a World Cup.
