My ridiculously early prediction of Rohr’s 23-man World Cup squad... cheesy

GKs - Uzoho, Ezenwa, Alampasu (if Enyeama doesn’t return)

Defenders - Idowu, Echiejile, Ebuehi, Aina, Ekong, Balogun, Omeruo, Awaziem.

Midfielders - Mikel Obi, Shehu Abdullahi, Onazi, John Ogu, Ndidi, Joel Obi/Mikel Agu.

Forwards - Iwobi, Iheanacho, Kayode, V. Moses, Onyekuru, Ighalo.

No Shehu??

My brother, forget being polite for a second. Akpeyi made a big mess of himself, I'm unapologetic calling him an idiott.
I earned a reputation on this thread as an Akpeyi's defender since the South African game. But on the back of this performance, he deserves any insult that came his way.

We are talking about a man who have played football at the highest level for more than a decade, playing across several levels in the national team and the continent. I mean, how can this guy be so star struck on sighting Aguero that he totally forgot the basic law of the game.
It's akin to seeing an experienced doctor forgetting a pair of scissors inside the belly of a patient after surgery.

I wonder why he wasn't red carded in the first place? Akpeyi is a fo^ol.. No apologies there my brother.
I wish Rohr gave him a resounding slap in the dressing room.

hahahahaha hahahahaha, I know how it feels.

Guy No try at all. It's not his fault though, he wants to be better than he is actually. It's more of a psychological problem.

Psychological problem or not, we've seen enough of him. Rorh should save him further embarrassments by calling others in his stead.

But the thing really pain you o. To slap a matured-married man, the oldest man in the team for that matter in front of them Ebuehi, Aina, Onyekuru them. Hahahahahahaha. (I get you sha)

uzoho has displaced akpeyi, thus making it more easier for enyema to return to slug it out with the remaining available keepers. There are some matches you don't mess up and today's game was one
I don't think Enyeama is coming back.

Uzoho just need two more friendlies to prove his class and confidence, with confidence at towering 6ft with good aerial ball control, what do we need again, they just need to psyche the guy up nothing more.

Enyeama broke into eagles with just 45 mins appearance against home based Kenya team so why not Uzoho who had 45 mins against Argentina

Enyeama Gives Super Eagles ‘Standing Ovation’ After Victory Over Argentina
Peter Oriaku 1 hour ago

Retired Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has expressed his pride in the team’s performance in 2017, which was rounded off with a stunning 4-2 victory over Argentina in a friendly in Krasnodar, Russia on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles came from 2-0 down to outclass the South American giants 4-2 on the back of a brilliant Alex Iwobi brace and further strikes from Kelechi Iheanacho and debuting left-back Bryan Idowu.

Enyeama quit the team in 2015 after falling out with then head coach Sunday Oliseh but there have been loud calls for him to return for next year’s World Cup.
However, Enyeama, who is on the road to recovery after a long injury-enforced lay-off, is happy with the present team’s performances.

“What a way to end 2017. Proud of @NGSuperEagles as a proud naija soccer supporter. Standing ovation, hat off and bravoooo
,” Enyeama tweeted moment after Tuesday’s friendly win.

The Super Eagles have indeed had a brilliant 2017, overruning their African qualifying Group B opponents on the way to claiming the group’s sole Russia 2018 World Cup ticket before Tuesday night’s superb victory.

"We are very happy and excited with this development. This is the first time since I started playing for the senior team that I would see everything regarding preparation and bonuses and allowances put down in black and white and a binding agreement executed. It is reassuring that we now have a Federation leadership so committed to making everything work that they arranged this meeting and allowed the players to contribute and then set out to sign the agreement,” Mikel Obi said.
I think Pinnick deserves some props.

There has been relative stability in the glass house since he took over. He has also been very pragmatic with capturing the foreign born players. I saw him smiling after the final whistle and I was like "you deserve it sir. ''

I w never rate the present Echiejele over Aina.

Yea he has Ebuhei and Abdullahi to contend with but don't be surprised if you find out he is better than the duo cos Ebuhei that a lot don't reckon with even the coaches has split us now, some for Abdullahi some for Ebuhei just cos of today's match.

Am just to happy for this team the competition for positions is building up,i know Shehu w be watching his back and Echiejele w now know that Idowu and Aina are there for him to compete with not like before strolling to camp as only LB
Aina can be tried for another position but not left back pls, he was not convincing against Algeria either so elderson is still ahead of him, let's admit that pls. If he can contend for the right back which I doubt, no problem but for left back abeg just like we don't want akpeyi near the goal post, I don't want aina near the left back too. Sometimes we over hype these players and they fall hand. We had no business goin down 2-nil but for aina 's sloppiness

Having a 6ft 5in player, in Uzoho, as our goalkeeper is massive. He will gobble up most of our opponents’ crosses, for sure. And if he plays at the WC, he will become the tallest Nigerian player ever at a World Cup.

Mikel sum it all,he said they all struggled due to the new system but find their feet in 2nd half when Rohr spoke to them, meaning starting Ebuhei, Idowu we may still have bad 1st half, good Rohr is working and tactically he got it right today.

2018 World Cup: Ike Shorunmu suggests Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper SPORT

Published on November 14, 2017

By John Owen Nwachukwu

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu has said that Ikechukwu Ezenwa is good enough to be the Super Eagles number 1 goalkeeper.

Shorunmu, who spoke to Complete Sports, noted that Ezenwa can be Eagles first-choice keeper at the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup despite calls for the recall of the retired Vincent Enyeama.
In recent games, coach Gernot Rohr has preferred Ezenwa in goal ahead of the likes of Daniel Akpeyi, Dele Alampasu and Dele Ajiboye.

Ezenwa’s came under criticism for his poor display in last Friday’s fixture against Algeria with some already clamouring for the return of the experienced Enyeama ahead of the World Cup.

Shorunmu insisted the former junior international is good enough to maintain his position between the sticks at the mundial.
He said, “Footballers have off days and I don’t think it is fair for anyone to crucify Ezenwa on the basis of his performance in just one game.
“He did well in all the previous games and we need to encourage him and not castigate him.
“I believe he has all the ability to become even better that is if we all give him our support and not crucify him.”

Thank God we have foreign goalkeepers trainer not all these mediocre.

Ezenwa number 1 keeper for WC,a huge joke, after watching Algeria and Argentina match, Ezenwa and Akpeyi no go area for me.

Yea Idowu had a classical game but i still see Aina making the team than Echiejele cos of his versatility but hope to see Aina at RB likely he may be better than Shehu and Ebuehi cos the boy Ebuhei does it with ease than Shehu based on the match i watched today even Rohr was surprised cos he didn't believe much on Ebuhei.
With ease Sir. That's what I noticed. Now the competition gets stiffer and sterner.

Brian Idowu Delighted To Score On Nigeria Debut, Teaching Teammates Basic Russian
Published: November 14, 2017

Amkar Perm defender Brian Idowu was full of happiness after finding the net on his debut for Nigeria and has revealed that several Super Eagles players have been asking him questions about Russia.

Eight minutes after coming off the bench, Idowu scored to give Nigeria a lead for the first time in the match against Argentina.
''It is clear, I felt normal, the third match at this stadium. Everyone was surprised if this stadium is a World Cup venue. I said no.

Everyone was shocked. But I explained that the matches of the mundial will be held in Sochi,'' Idowu told reporters at the post-match conference, including Sport Express.

''They asked me questions related to whether the soup is Russian, whether it is Russian salad, how to say "good morning", "thank you".

''The atmosphere is very positive, and I'm glad that it turned out to be a successful debut.''

Nigeria boss Gernot Rohr praised his team's resolve after the three-time African champions had looked doomed to defeat.

"There were two completely different halves. The opening period was very hard. One could believe the match was already over after Argentina scored their second goal," said Rohr. "But we managed to perform a comeback.

"After we scored we rearranged our play in the break and performed much better in the second half. My players are mentally strong, they showed strong will. I'm very happy with their perforance."

A great coach motivating his lads and changing the course of a doomed game. Rohr is a miracle. Everything is working well for him

GK position: I think it's time we give David Nwokolor a chance. There is nothing these lads can learn from Ezenwa.
Let's just take Uzoho, Alampasu, and Nwokolor

Defense: I suggest we keep searching for another LB. Let Shehu, Aina and Ebuehi battle it out at RB.
Echiejile should get another competition for who will make the bench at LB. Preferably a versatile left-footed defender.

Forwards: I'm not sold on Kayode and Onyekuru yet. They need more game time to prove their mettle.
Let a fit Success Isaac (with EPL games under his belt), Paul Onuachu, and Sarenren-Bazee (with Bundesliga games under his belt) come to the battle. Then we pick two out of the five.
Where is Moses Simon?

To be candid with Brian Idowu's performance today, Aina is left floating. Do we take him to right back or leave him to fight with Echiejile and Idowu at LB?

Brian Idowu has something going for him and it played out today: He is based in Russia. He will definitely be very comfortably with the weather and also many of the pitches. He right now stands a better chance of being in Russia than Aina.

I expected Idowu do better than Aina because that's his natural position. It means he can fit in flawlessly, Aina is a RB trying to be a LB and doing a good job of it.

I am relying on comments didn't get to see the game here. It seems YouTube will be my friend for various few clips.

Ebuehi a natural RB should also fit in flawlessly football is about opportunity and what you do with it. It seems Ebuehi has taken his with both hands again from the comments made.

I always said there has to be competition for every position. One game doesn't make a player but it's a very good start.

That midfield is already choked up. If Aina wants to make it to Russia he must prove he is better than one of or both of Shehu and Aina.

What can even make things worse or let me say more competitive for the RB position is if Rohr chooses to adopt the 3-5-2 he played today. It means a player like Victor Moses would have to contest for the RWB position of which he would be favorite and that means we may just need one natural RB to be a back up.

I'll say it again one game doesn't make a player. What it means that there is good competition for positions.
