If you are one of those exhilarated about the recent travails of President Robert Mugabe... then you are only smart by half.
You need to read more.

Sincerely, you are very good thinker. If you do not want Mugabe, vote him out through constitutional ways. Don't allow those guys using guns to force out a democratic government. The west keep dictating for the world when we are not fools anymore. Any army general will be eyeing the president of his country so as to usurp his government. we must fight against military coup in 2017. If you cannot vote him out, then sleep in poverty.

With the advent of internet Africans are wiser and won't tolerate coups anymore. Just like the Lebanese who refused to go to war with themselves despite US and Saudi Arabia kidnapping their Prime Minister Saad Hariri, this coup cannot be recognized.
We may not like Mugabe and his long stay in power but any unconstitutional takeover can longer stand in Africa. Libya and the destruction wraught on that country by the west seems to be the last.
Like Syria, AU must resist this

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Zimbabwe is a democracy in name only. The same Zimbabwe where they passed a law on registration of typewriters so the press could be gagged? The same Zimbabwe of stagflation? The Zimbabwe with a power mad first lady going around beating up women her sons are messing with?

It is a fitting ignominious end to mugabe and his attempt at sexually transmitted political power

It is a coup. And AU should never recognize the military junta in Zimbabwe.
Are we Africans not tired of military coup?
From the look of things the former Vice President to Robert Mugabe is not above board.
I for one denounce the military coup.

How can they get a good leader, when the West sanctioned the coup for its nefarious reasons? All Zibabwean's are going to get is a stooge and indirect rule by the West, for the benefit of the West.

Why exactly do you think this mythical "West" is interested in Zimbabwe? What is there to see? Lions, leopards and giraffes? There are plenty in zoos here. What does Zimbabwe contribute to the world that the west would invest so much to depose Mugabe, and only after 37 long years?

My dear, the West isn't your problem, you are.

This is gobbledygook. There is no constitutional mandate if you rig elections in your favor and install cronies who write the constitution to favor you clinging on to power till you die. When will Africans take their own destiny in their hands?

It's a coup and no matter how hard you paint it, you can't change the fact. Some Americans are outraged with Trump, why didn't the military usurper his power.

Yes, he has abused his power but if we allow this coup, everyother military personnel in Africa can rise up one day to overthrow it's government because we sure know as hell that most nations including ours is messed up.

Before you agree or disagree, think of the consequences of such actions.

AU must stand for constitutionality and not allow the western powers to influence their decision on this. The Mugabe era must be allowed to end in a constitutional way, not through the backdoor because of his wife's excesses.

what western own it? Mugabe, 100 years old,has ruled Zimbabwe for 30 years. Sacked his Vice President so his wife takes over government when he dies. Does it make sense to u?

Oh please stop this nonsensical rants about the West. If you ask the average American, they could not locate Zimbabwe on the world map neither do they care. Left to the average American, they would build a wall on their southern border and forget anyone else exists, other than Canada maybe. It's a coup, sanctioned by western government (it's obvious from their reporting) and it shouldn't be recognised in Africa because it would signal double standard and embolden military personnel to start plotting coup.

Mugabe might be different thing to different persons but this action might further lead to the degradation democracy in Africa. I hope AU takes the right stand on thus issue.
this makes sense

But on The other hand. Maybe Democracy is not the way for us in Africa. We can see how "well" it's working for us.
That's not to say a military takeover is the way. But we need to try something else. Something different from Western and traditional Democracy

Which citizens, I am still amazed how most Nigerians react to news without doing their own home work.

I watch CNN, BBC etc like you but I know they have an agenda and removing Mugabe would be a very wonderful achievement. What do I mean, if I were them I would show you those persons that are happy with the coup.

Everyone has Allies and Foes, even Jesus was killed by his people does it mean the action was right and he he didn't have his own followers.

Not everyone in a nation or community has same interest. Personally he has overstayed in that office but a coup in Africa should not be supported because of its ripple effect.

You are talking trash. The people is the essence government. The people want him out, that settles it. This should be a lesson to other African leaders with anti-people agenda

What do they want? Land, Land, Land .... You know, that thing people kill themselves for, even in this our Nigeria. Now if you go to neighboring Namibia what they want and have are all the diamond mines (ask DeBeers). And no they did not buy it. They just took it same way they "discovered and took" America.

AU should just turn a blind eye to the coup and recognise the incoming president. It would send a signal to sit-tight presidents, that if they refuse to leave quietly, they would be eased out noisily.
Glad to see at least one person on here can think straight! What business does "constitutionality" have to do with a sit-tight despot like Mugabe? It's really depressing to see the number of commenters on here rushing to spout "woke" nonsense about "the West" and "giving land back to Africans", when Mugabe has done more to impoverish and disenfranchise his own people than anyone since the days of Cecil Rhodes!

I generally don't support military coups, but on this occasion I'll have to make an exception, and say "Good riddance to bad rubbish". If Robert Mugabe gave a damn about his countrymen, he would have left office at least 2 decades ago after peaceful and fair elections, but the same AU that had nothing to say throughout all the years of Mugabe intimidating opponents and rigging elections now has the cheek to talk about "constitutional" government? They should just come out and admit they're really advocating on behalf of all the other geriatric African leaders who believe they have a right to rule until they die, e.g. Museveni, Biya and Kagame.

This is idiocy. The west has all the land it wants. Try visiting the United States, it is an entire continent on its own with a population just about twice that of Nigeria... so exactly what land does the West want in Harare? Land to plant trees and shoot lions?

Zimbabwe has no minerals of note. It has zero oil... so exactly what would the west do with the land? If you looked beyond your nose, you'd realize your own leaders have been raping you for decades, while you foolishly blame the west as if they care one jot about you.

lol think about what exactly? That Zimbabwe has been ruled by a 93-year old dictator for 37 years? In what country on this planet is a 93 year old a president and planning to stand for re-election next year? When did he intend to leave the presidency? At 110 years of age? You Africans are complete morons. Zimbabwe is a land plagued with hunger, derelict infrastructure, grinding poverty, no functioning welfare state, a complete breakdown of infrastructure, 100% reliant on foreign aid to survive. The hyperinflation it suffered just a few years ago remains the butt of jokes the world over... and you're asking me to think? About what? Yeah, i'm wondering how people can be this blind.

The day us dark African people stop allowing 93-year old dictators remain in office while trying to install their wives as successors as if the nation is a family heirloom.

If Zimbabweans were capable of critical thinking, Robert Mugabe would have been removed from power over 20 years ago. If Nigerians could think critically, Buhari would not be president today... but i digress.

Visit the U.S? Joke of the century. I live in the U.S. So to you the West is synonymous with the U.S.? If not, why do you feel the need to tell me that the U.S. has a lot of land? For your information, the West includes all of the European powers. I am going to leave you with this little quote:

"Pursuing decolonization, Mugabe's government emphasised the redistribution of land controlled by white farmers to landless blacks, initially on a "willing seller-willing buyer" basis. Frustrated at the slow rate of redistribution, from 2000 Mugabe encouraged the violent seizure of white-owned land."

You’re shortsighted.

This action will ricochet on the political landscape of Africa and have retrogressive effect.

The current Vice President should take over and restore legality before the rest of Africa draw a precedent from it.

The US is the defacto leader of the west. That is a fact.

Secondly, which European powers are interested in Zimbabwe? Is it Norway, Germany, Sweden or Italy? The joke is on you. Yes Mugabe redistributed land from whites in 2000... the British took back their white farmers and have since resettled them. The land that Mugabe took back, how many of them have turned into prosperous black farms today? Why is Zimbabwe in a food crisis? Africans are such jokes.

You live in the US, you see how a democracy (with in-built checks and balances) work and you support Mugabe holding unto power for 37 years? You just wasted all those years living in the US, my sister.
