I give up sir, you are so so smart. Check yourself.

No don't give up... you claim Zimbabwe is a colossal failure because of western sanctions, yet you can't name those sanctions when we ask you to. Perhaps your claim is just the usual excuse Africans give to justify their incompetence. If you can't buy a candle tonight, just blame the west. they must have stolen all the candles.

The US is the defacto leader of the west. That is a fact.

Secondly, which European powers are interested in Zimbabwe? Is it Norway, Germany, Sweden or Italy? The joke is on you. Yes Mugabe redistributed land from whites in 2000... the British took back their white farmers and have since resettled them. The land that Mugabe took back, how many of them have turned into prosperous black farms today? Why is Zimbabwe in a food crisis? Africans are such jokes.

Men you are so so ignorant! Why talk about a subject you are so evidently lacking the knowedge of!

You don't seem to have anything of substance either. Please tell us what sanctions you claim are responsible for bankrupting Zimbabwe. Once you can provide that i'll take you seriously.

My problem isn't ignorance, i'm just tired of the usual recourse to blaming white people when Africans inevitably fail time and time again. the asians have gone on and built some of the world's technologically most advanced nations and 2 of the world's top 3 economies. We are still here blaming the west, 50 years after.

You're so awake. Part of the US/NATO AFRICOM project

It's not difficult to spot. Every group/nation has its own interest and I understand perfectly why they want him gone. He is weak, he has always had an anti NATO policy and he also fought hard against the apartheid/colonial power. He seized so many businesses and localised them. If I were a European or an American, I would want him gone and ii would make sure his wife never continues with his policy.

The big question would be, what would be Zimbabwe's interest in this, what would be African interest. Would it be beneficiary or harmful.

I like the fact that his wife won't be taking over the country as if it's her property but a coup brings it's own problem to the subregion. It sends a very wrong message but I hope the situation can be salvaged to be a win for the Zimbabwe people and the region at large, we don't need another Libya.

Why exactly do you think this mythical "West" is interested in Zimbabwe? What is there to see? Lions, leopards and giraffes? There are plenty in zoos here. What does Zimbabwe contribute to the world that the west would invest so much to depose Mugabe, and only after 37 long years?

My dear, the West isn't your problem, you are.
I was about saying the same thing. What is it that they have that the West is trying to hijack? Farmlands or what? With their poor economy and Useless currency. Good Riddance to Mugabe and his Power drunk South African Gucci wife. The both of them should be Jailed.

Nope. the legislature is the one to step in by impeaching the President. the legislature is an arm of government and a check against the government. Not the military

What if the legislature is incapacitated?

Oh please stop this nonsensical rants about the West. If you ask the average American, they could not locate Zimbabwe on the world map neither do they care. Left to the average American, they would build a wall on their southern border and forget anyone else exists, other than Canada maybe. The west does not care about you, they are not dictating to you, you are grossly incapable of thinking for yourselves. You continue to vote for geriatric idiots with no serious economic platforms, you continue to traffic in mediocrity... hailing roads as evidence of development. How can one man rule a nation for 37 years? Is that the fault of the west too?

I am not from Zimbabwe neither I live close to their border. Any decision they make is their problem and I do not care about it. I only care about the ripple effects of the military interfering with a democratic process.

To you, an average American cared about Gaddafi when they took him from power. What was the concern of USA citizens with what was happening in Syria? If you think the "sins" of Mugabe haven't been read out within the caucus of the west after the UN convention then I believe you don't know a thing about world politics. In your mind, you thought the coup was planned immediately Mugabe sacked the vice president. If the west plan your downfall, it will always look like your fault.

How can they get a good leader, when the West sanctioned the coup for its nefarious reasons? All Zibabwean's are going to get is a stooge and indirect rule by the West, for the benefit of the West.

But the same West sanctioned Mr Mugabe time without number during his autocratic regime. Of course they are not in support of military coup. Irrespective of whoever they choose to install, from all indications, Zimbabweans have seen worst..

ma'am no matter how bad a democratic setting is, no military man should go there and remove him from power. If you can't vote him out, keep crying in your room. The military are not angels. in fact most of them are illiterates and just know how to shoot bullets.

Refute my claims

That would be a complete waste of time but since you ask...

You said Mugabe has always been anti-NATO... and so what? Why is that of any concern to even a monkey? Is Zimbabwe a NATO base? Has any western nation had any reason to fly NATO aircraft in Zimbabwean airspace? What influence does Zimbabwe wield around the world that should cause anyone to lose even 2 minutes of sleep? Of what relevance is that point to anything?

I understand the Zimbabwean army see it as an insult that Grace mugabe a nonentity and power hungry fooool, is trying all she can to become president through the backdoor. but they must consider how Robert Mugabe has been able to give Zimbabweans back their lands and kept colonialists western vultures from exploiting and milking the country. the army better restore Mugabe back and ask him to resign willingly then his vice would take over.

anything outside that its a coup and the AU must not recognize the illegal government headed by the vice president.

This appears to be the most rational thing to do,but how do you guarantee that Mugabe will not change tone once he is reinstated,I don't know what it is,but that Grace Mugabe of a woman has a very strong hold on Robert Mugabe. She treats the man anyhow even in public, like he is under her evil spell

Farmlands actually, before Mugabe came into power, it was the whites who were buying up the lands and turning it into farmlands at the same time shortchanging the owners of the land. As I read though my memory is fuzzy now, they made huge gains in Zimbabwe from the crops they grew on it. But something along the line happened which made Mugabe seize control. He actually had good relations with the west before the fall out. Don't think I can find the link now

Glad to see at least one person on here can think straight! What business does "constitutionality" have to do with a sit-tight despot like Mugabe? It's really depressing to see the number of commenters on here rushing to spout "woke" nonsense about "the West" and "giving land back to Africans", when Mugabe has done more to impoverish and disenfranchise his own people than anyone since the days of Cecil Rhodes!

I generally don't support military coups, but on this occasion I'll have to make an exception, and say "Good riddance to bad rubbish". If Robert Mugabe gave a damn about his countrymen, he would have left office at least 2 decades ago after peaceful and fair elections, but the same AU that had nothing to say throughout all the years of Mugabe intimidating opponents and rigging elections now has the cheek to talk about "constitutional" government? They should just come out and admit they're really advocating on behalf of all the other geriatric African leaders who believe they have a right to rule until they die, e.g. Museveni, Biya and Kagame.
You are a very wise intellectual.

even if it's a coup, it is a bloodless one and i applaud them for that but mugabe brought it on himself, running the country like it's a family affair, naming his wife to succeed him like the country is an inheritance smh
Mugabe was democratically elected, the Military has no mandate, their mutiny should never be allowed to stand, it sets a bad precedence, there is not room for military coups in a democracy, the rebelling soldiers should be charged for treason and violating the constitution of Zimbabwe.

Ignorance is not an excuse you need help on international politics. On the contrary mark my words Mugabe will be reinstalled back into power and those soldiers and the assumed Vice President that committed mutiny will flee and go into exile. Something similar happened in Turkey last year?

lol think about what exactly? That Zimbabwe has been ruled by a 93-year old dictator for 37 years? In what country on this planet is a 93 year old a president and planning to stand for re-election next year? When did he intend to leave the presidency? At 110 years of age? You Africans are complete morons. Zimbabwe is a land plagued with hunger, derelict infrastructure, grinding poverty, no functioning welfare state, a complete breakdown of infrastructure, 100% reliant on foreign aid to survive. The hyperinflation it suffered just a few years ago remains the butt of jokes the world over... and you're asking me to think? About what? Yeah, i'm wondering how people can be this blind.
Why are you wasting your precious time arguing with ignorant and senseless buffoons. Something the military should have done a long time ago when the old senic refused to relinquish power but no he wants to hand over power to that useless wife of his. They should have shot them sef. Useless people. Where was that useless AU when Mugabe was ruling Zimbabwe with impunity. He thought he will rule forever cos its his ancestors that own Zimbabwe abi?

Which AU? Paul Biya, Pierre Nkurunziza, Furo, Kabila, Museveni, Buhari, Zuma are next.
cashlurd:
It doesn't seem. It is a military coup!!! I also see the hands of western countries in this coup!
Trace back to Mugabe's approach to Donald Trump during the last convention where in like countries talked about their countries gifts and challenges: Trump talked about the North Korean threat, PMB kept on praising Trump without talking about his country, Putin opposed Trump and the only African President to openly oppose Trump was Mugabe!!!

Throwback to Gaddafi and his opposition to the USA and also to all other African Heads of states who opposed the USA In history.

One thing they have in common They have all been overthrown and forced into exile while some unlucky ones get killed!!

The western world wants to control Zimbabwe but Mugabe's strong opposition hindered them. This is one of the many ways to get him out of power and put his deputy in his place who can be easily controlled.

Africans be wise! Africans be woke!! Africans stand against western control of your resources!!!!

I can guarantee he would. what the army needs to do is to lock that woman up somewhere unknown, reinstate Mugabe who would be heavily surrounded by soldiers and ask him to quietly resign. the old man is tired and not in control anymore. I believe Grace is just using him and waiting for him to die so she can succeed him.
