It's a coup and no matter how hard you paint it, you can't change the fact. Some Americans are outraged with Trump, why didn't the military usurper his power.

Yes, he has abused his power but if we allow this coup, everyother military personnel in Africa can rise up one day to overthrow it's government because we sure know as hell that most nations including ours is messed up.

Before you agree or disagree, think of the consequences of such actions.

Do you live in america or have you ever been there?

My brother please explain to them o. Because there are a lot of clueless people on this thread. Most African presidents are puppets installed by the Western world. And they rule and rape all these countries via the installed puppets. Mugabe took Zibabwe's land and gave it back to his country men. Prior to Mugabe, Zibabweans were tenants on their ancestral land, with all of the land being usurped by Europeans. They (Europeans) have not forgiven Mugabe for that. Africans as a whole must stop being gullible and stop buying wholesale into Western propaganda. Critical thinking is seriously needed.

Zimbabweans have had it rough, I believe they have seen the limit of poverty and bad economy. To me, if it would take a Western stooge to take Zimbabweans away from their misery, so be it.. Sir Mugabe was too greedy and obsessed with power, see where it has left him, a mockery, kicked out of office like a common criminal.. From hero to zero.. grin

Why are you wasting your precious time arguing with ignorant and senseless buffoons. Something the military should have done a long time ago when the old senic refused to relinquish power but no he wants to hand over power to that useless wife of his. They should have shot them sef. Useless people. Where was that useless AU when Mugabe was ruling Zimbabwe with impunity. He thought he will rule forever cos its his ancestors that own Zimbabwe abi?
Who sent the Military to be the social judge?did Zanu PF not win the elections?isn't the Military part of the executive arm of Mugabe's Government,The Africa Union has spoken hand power back to Robert Mugabe or face the wrath of Africa, there is no provisions for Military coups anymore in Africa. Same thing Fidel Castro told them in Cuba that the politicians were bad and he stayed in power for 50 years. South Africa is the back bone of Zimbabwe they will never stand with the coup plotters it sets a bad precedence.

We have been told time without number the worst civilian government is better than the best military regime. The military has no mandate.

No don't give up... you claim Zimbabwe is a colossal failure because of western sanctions, yet you can't name those sanctions when we ask you to. Perhaps your claim is just the usual excuse Africans give to justify their incompetence. If you can't buy a candle tonight, just blame the west. they must have stolen all the candles.

It's a coup, sanctioned by western government (it's obvious from their reporting) and it shouldn't be recognised in Africa because it would signal double standard and embolden military personnel to start plotting coup.

Mugabe might be different things to different persons but this action might further lead to the degradation of democracy in Africa. I hope AU takes the right stand on this issue.
You give the west more power than they actually have.
Mugabe is bad news. The country is retrogressing and it was only a matter of time before the military or the people rose up.

Please tell me what exactly will the west get from Zimbabwe that would make a real difference to them?

So by your reasoning North Korea is a paragon of democracy, since they too hold regular elections, even if only one candidate is on the ballot, and always gets 100% of the vote? Talk about confusing the empty form of a thing for its substance.

Would you have been so quick to endorse Nigerian "democracy" if GEJ had decided to massively rig his way to re-election, giving himself 90% of the vote even across the entire north? What if Buhari decides in 2019 he wants to practice "democracy" Mugabe-style, by giving himself 70% or more of the vote across all 36 states, after sending out troops to flog and shoot opposition supporters away from the polls on election day? Would you be on here spouting the kind of hot air you're expelling over Mugabe's 37 years of "democratic" despotism?

Part of the reason (I guess) that Hilary lose the democratic ticket to Obama was partly because her husband once rule America, even the west couldn't stomach that..

Would you have like to remain under your fathers roof for donkey years without having your own family? just because your parent birth you, feed you, clothe you, Schooled you? Etc

Agreed he was exceptional and did great things for his country men..but that is not a yardstick to hold on to. Power for that long...

How is he better than the colonial whites he ousted ?

He has overstayed his welcome...even has I don't justify coup..but coup as always been part of African tradition..dont go picking on any African mentality ish..whites did worse they took us slaves. Get that

even if it's a coup, it is a bloodless one and i applaud them for that but mugabe brought it on himself, running the country like it's a family affair, naming his wife to succeed him like the country is an inheritance smh

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Too much power can cause rivalry to take extreme measures, Mugabe is most certainly under attack by Western nations, but however, this event is his own doing for failing to recognize the other power parties interests in Zimbabwe. There is a women's association in Zimbabwe that will not recognize the first lady's ascension to the presidency. The first lady, Her Excellency, Mrs. Grace Mugabe is a member too of this national women's group. The women's group has a clause about morality and that of being a lady to rise in rank within the organization. Mrs, Mugabe is rumored to have had a well known scandalous affair, that is what has put the women's group against her and prevents her ascension to represent women in the Presidency of Zimbabwe. This women's group has large numbers and are dead set not to vote for Mrs. Mugabe. This is a cultural issue for Zimbabwe more than it has to do with the West. This is something other people who are not Zimbabwean people must stay out of it. But that's like asking the mosquito not to bite naked flesh. Some people love to poke at an open wound and take advantage of this unfortunate situation because Mr. Robert Mugabe is loved throughout the African world for his champing the freedom of Africans. And like President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda honored former presidents Amin and Obote, Zimbabwe whether or not Mugabe stays or is ousts must honor Mr. Mugabe and thus preserve the prestige and morale of Zimbabwe. Mugabe's is overwhelmed by the West's economic war against him and failed to gather enough forces in Zimbabwe to assist in getting the country economically and socially better. Zimbabwe people are suffering while Mugabe family is raking up power and living in luxury based upon the nation's wealth. This is how come the General stepped in to get rid of this bad element from around Mr. Mugabe. This is a bloodless correction as long as people who business it isn't stay out of it.

The land reforem bullshitt was foolish.
If you want your people to reclaim their lands, you don't just forcefully retrieve it like a banana republic.
You create a prosperous populace that can buy back their lands in a free market system.

How has the reclaimed land helped them? To buy bread, you need billions of Zimbabwean dollars.

Btw, to be a western stooge is not necessarily a bad thing. many countries are western stooges and they are prospering.
The problem is when you are not smart enough to leverage on your friendship with the west.

The US have military bases and weapons storage facilities in Germany and Turkey against Russia. That has not stopped both countries from prospering.

ma'am no matter how bad a democratic setting is, no military man should go there and remove him from power. If you can't vote him out, keep crying in your room. The military are not angels. in fact most of them are illiterates and just know how to shoot bullets.
And when the sit tight leader always manipulates the electoral process to declare himself the winner, and hounds the opposition into exile or oblivion, what is the next step?

Leaders like Mugabe need to realise that their actions would invite coups, if they fail to do the right thing. This would send a strong signal to him. If the AU intervenes, it should be to help the Zimbabwean Parliament put in place an interim govt and compel elections to be held in the absence of Mugabe. Once a new govt comes in, then the AU can back down. undecided

We are not even free.
An import dependent is not even free.

If I were president, I would invite the americans in to build their military bases for their drone operations, with shared oversight with Nigeria and operation beyond Nigerian soil.
Then I will get mutual defence treaty in return, i.e. the total protection of Nigerian territory on the air, land and sea by the US military in case of a foreign invasion just like Korea and Japan, and also negotiate a deliberate policy for US businesses to come into Nigeria as their first point of call in africa.

Then I will pump the billions being wasted on corrupt defence procurements into upgrading our infrastructure and economy into second world standard.
That is how to be a stooge with sense. And it is very very achievable.

Nigerians want a good life. We have no power for unnecessary bravado when we can't even afford it.

It is what it is,coup de tat ! And it's coup de grace for maximum leader,Mugabe.Apart from clinging ruthlessly to the seat of power long after he had spent his creative usefulness,he paved the way for his ouster by allowing his wife to run the country like her kitchen, much to the chagrin of Zimbabweans who see it as an affront.
Now,Zimbabweans say Army coup is better than bedroom coup. She probably would have killed Mugabe one day after she must have placed herself in good stead.Reason why she prevailed on Mugabe to sack the Vice President.
Now that the bubble is bust, she's run away to Namibia, leaving behind her vanities.
