Benita27:She still comes from two cultures. If her mother was Edo, then you can tell her what to do. At this point, she's a mix of cultures and traditional wedding is a cultural wedding that symbolizes where the couple come from. By the way, not all Edo grooms dress in Bini or Edo attire. I have seen many with agbada. |

baby124:Stop misleading people. There's nothing like two cultures here. In the African setting, her father's cultures/tradition is what she follows. Perhaps, you just want to let sentiment cloud your judgement. I quit arguing on this matter. 3 Likes |

Clash of cultures! These are the reasons why some people reject inter tribal unions. |

Benita27:It actually depends on the family involved. Some families might choose to blend both cultures, while others may opt to discard one and stick to the other. Most of those who are die-hard advocates of the father's culture becoming more dominant, are those whose parents come from the same ethnic stock. Those with parents who come from different ethnic groups, are far more tolerant about blending aspects of both cultures, during an event. And there is nothing like a single African setting. In fact, there are different types of African cultures. Are you aware that in a few African cultures, the matrilineal aspect prevails? 2 Likes |

baby124:She could be mixed but she remains her father's daughter and would naturally lean towards the father's tradition, save in cases of neglect. You are clearly arguing about something you don't know much about here. Is it any surprising that most would-be-couples travel to the family house of their soon-to-be brides I have never seen a traditional wedding ceremony in which a woman presided over just because her daughter is 'mixed'. The emboldened depends on where the bride is from. |

laudate:Bro, going by your assertion, this would mean they already have three parties; the introduction, the traditional wedding PROPER (which was done in her father's house), and the traditional wedding party (which was done yesterday or on Saturday). |

Sanchez01: No sir. They had just two - introduction (at the end of which bride price was discussed) because groom's family came from afar and needed to go back, and then the traditional wedding party which took place a month after the introduction. 1 Like |

laudate:Lol! The second paragraph would be a flimsy excuse of not having the wedding in her father's compound. Who chases her daughter out of her compound to wed in the traditional way just because he is Mysophobic or can't stand dirt? |

Sanchez01:Did you see the mother carry microphone? The girl simply wanted her wedding a certain way. Not everyone is like you or has your ancestry. Respect others and don't force your opinion on them. The wedding has ended, the couple have moved on. You should also move on with your life and mind your business. Are they your family members? 2 Likes |

Sanchez01:Guy, you really need to see the damage done at some venues after the party is over. From piles of dirty plates, to piles of leftover food, damaged cisterns in toilets, broken bottles, even missing valuables and items....the list is endless. Can you vouch that all your guests will treat your things with respect? One of my neighbours' swore never to hold parties in his house again, after he surveyed the damage done to his property, by revellers at his party. Worse still, the party didn't end till 2 a.m and he couldn't get to sleep, because of the filth and smells in the house. Someone had even gotten drunk and sprawled across his bed, after vomiting on the bed linen! 1 Like |

cyndy1000: But it's not proper. This is how traditional values go into extinction. Too much acculturation...everyone claiming "modern." We are Africans with a culture that's supposed to be rich...and unless such a culture is destructive, I don't see why it shouldn't be preserved. 1 Like 1 Share |
