Koolmum: Hello Koolmum and Thespecialist; Thanks for the advise , yes i am not pr, but i have a friend who is pr and living in Calgary. So hoping that she can help me as well, i may stay with them for the first couple weeks till i find a place for myself, and she may guide me about hospitals and doctors. That is why i booked my tickets already to Calgary. I didnt do any research before that if i have checked this thread before i might change my direction to Oshava, but now i dont have a chance to change since the tickets purchased are very expensive as well. And so far i am not able to get much help from my friend, and that is why i am checking all information i can find online. Checking abnb also and the prices seem quite high though, sharing could be a better idea. I will keep searching. Many many thanks to every mama that has been sharing again , this is really usefull 1 Like |

deonu: Deonu, Regarding rental accomodation, also try searching on www.kijiji.ca Narrow your search to ‘one bedroom’ and ‘Calgary’ ‘Alberta’....hopefully you find a reasonably prized accomodation that you can rent for a couple of months.... best of luck 1 Like 1 Share |

Dear The specialist, Do you have any contacts for obgyn in Oshawa that deliver at lakeridge birth center? Would really appreciate any info u could give Thespecialist: |
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Thespecialist: 2:19am On Nov 24, 2017 |
Gottigoodgood: Dear Gottigoodgood, The health care system in Canada is structured such that a family physician has to refer you to an obgyn. If you have friends or relations here get them to do this for you. You can go online to read reviews of obgyn doctors in Oshawa or any area you intend to give birth at so you could provide the info of your choice obgyn to the family doctor for the referral. Hope this info helps... 3 Likes 1 Share |

Dear Thespecialist, Thanks alot for the information. It was surely helpful. I start researching OBGYN in that area. Is it possible to use midwives and OBGYN together? would really prefer a natural birth and research shows that the C-section rate is very high in Canada. Thespecialist: |

Midwife is part of thr team that will deliver u as each person has a role to play Gottigoodgood: |
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Thespecialist: 8:56pm On Nov 25, 2017 |
Gottigoodgood: Hello Gottigoodgood... Regarding your preferring a natural birth, note that if you’ve had previous birth(s) by c-section(performed in another country) your obgyn here will opt for a repeat c-section...(this info is going by my knowledge of Canadian birthing system and from my personal experience here) |
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Omodadi2: 10:15pm On Nov 25, 2017 |
Even in the US, only few doctors accept VBAC trial. Some even say they accept and at the end, they change tone. So i believ this sint what she meant by saying there is high C-section rate in Canada. Thespecialist: |

Hello house Just wanted to share my update.... I called the office of Dr Grace of Humber River yesterday and what i was told was they do not take cash payment anymore that i have to have get the OHIS /Health card when i am in canada before i can book appointment with them. Was a lil surprised as i though they attended to international patients as well as Hotstepper had earlier recommended. I also called Dr kayode's office and got below Quote 3500 CAD (Dr's charge which which covers all hospital visits till delivery, the actual delivery and one post parturm visit at 6 weeks) 2000 CAD for one night in Hosital for Mother 600 CAD for one night for Baby Does anyone has any other Doctor of Humber River that i can contact to check prices also before i finalize. @TheSpecialist can you share your Oshawa doctor's name or contact? 4 Likes 1 Share |

Koolmum: For a PR do you get instant healthcare for child delivery considering the fact that you may just be arriving? In which province can this be obtained? |
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Olushta: 3:30pm On Nov 30, 2017 |
What's the advantage of giving birth in either US/Canada? |
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Koolmum: 6:16pm On Nov 30, 2017 |
Cofinity: Yes you get instant healthcare for child delivery as a PR but in any province aside 3provinces,British Columbia,Toronto and one other province which I can't recall. Am using Manitoba as against Calgary that I initially wanted to use becos I culdnt get someone to stay with in Calgary. |
