Mujtahida: Firstly, this is a team on a transition path. It takes time for equilibrium to be achieved in the different segments of the team. Secondly, it is normal for teams to maximize their area of key strength and for us it is the right wing of the attack. Even a left footed forward like Iheanacho scores over 90% of his goals from the right position with his left foot. Watch all the goals we scored from open play against Argentina the attacks came from the right. Thirdly, there are no much quality LBs compared to RB in the world generally. That Argentine player that played LB against Nigeria, if he was Nigerian that would be his last game for us. All the attacks that led to all our goals from open play came from his territory. Fourthly, the world is generally is lack of quality left footed players. And the few quality ones are played on the right. That is where they are most deadly. I don't see that as a problem. We just have to maximize that strength. And also some times we can start one of RWF from the left just to destabilize our opponents. A case in time was starting Tijani Babangida from the left of attack against SA at the 2000 AFCON. SA were 2 goals down in 17mins or so. 4 Likes |

Joebie:You're totally spot on bro. I just hope Rohr or the technical crew sees this post. O would suggest Moses plays from the left since he's dual footed... I think Iwobi is also dual footed. |

Mujtahida: Diversifying your attack does not necessarily have to do with left footed or right footed players. Nowadays, right-footers play on the left and left-footers on the right. I do not know if it is a problem yet. Against Argentina, the reason we attacked mainly from the right in my opinion was because of Ndidi. Ogu played from the left but was understandably less willing to go forward so we built from the right. I remember Victor Moses was a solid threat on the left against Cameroon and Algeria. 4 Likes |

Mujtahida: You are right.. The gist is how can we make best use of right footed players? .. Greece that won 2004 Euro trophy (I will check and get back to you) with all their players eft footed ..how do they do it? We have seen great team with strong and weak point how do they make better use of the team? They are alot of things that can work for us and make us win games .. Like set pieces .(.free kicks, corner kickers and throwing in) ..we have see team like Bolton and stoke City make good use of the mechanism and it work magic for the team in the past.. We have counter attacking system that can be a massive exploit... The truth is we cant really have 100percent balanced team due to the resources available... Come think of the if the left footed player can't be a good a the right footed players.. Should we drop the later and pick the former? I believe we should work on our strong point with that we can achieve alot... You will surely find a loophole in a team.. That's why need to have atleast 3 game plans prior to World cup My opinion! 1 Like |

Good thing is Victor Mosis is quite comfortable with his left foot and has delivered some great passes and scored goals while playing from the left. Ihenacho is also a natural leftie. I remember Ahmed Musa's goals against Argentina from the last world cup came from the left wing too. While the left side of our defence and midfield seems weak when compared to the right side, I don't believe we are that bad. Hopefully with a fir Victor mosis and an able left sided defender, we should be more effective on that channel. My humble submission. |

Rohr have my respect 100%. if Rohr eventually perform well at the WC with the choice of his players, would u still attack. u should know that there so many factors that determines players invitation,it's not just performance alone, good altitude, discipline, and good working relationship with ur coach can influence coaches' choice of invitation. i mean would want us to hire ,GADIOLA,WENGER,ZIDAN. |

@all on the matter of balance, here's a greater part of the article written by solace chukwu on the medium(take note of the bolded) https://medium.com/solace-on/now-that-we-are-born-again-part-1-bd0b2c6dd07a You may have noticed that much of our play comes down the right side of the attack. I make it 8 of our 12 goals were a result of build-up/a passage of play from that flank. That is a staggering percentage. Two have come down the middle, two from the left (one of those a corner). See what’s wrong with this picture? Victor Moses has the rights of democracy to roam wherever he pleases, creating overloads. He invariably drifts to the right to link up with Moses Simon, who holds width rigidly on that side, opening up the channel between the opposing full-back and the near-sided centre-back. Odion Ighalo as well tends more naturally that way, so we end up with a cluster. Not to say there is anything wrong with this in and of itself. As a matter of fact, creating superiority in certain zones is the very key to unlocking defences. However, we won’t be playing Zambia, Cameroon and Algeria at the World Cup (no disrespect to them); what’s going to happen when teams realise we have no left-sided width? The reason overloads work is that, in creating superiority in one zone, you force the opponent to commit more resources there in order not to be undermanned, weakening them somewhere else. You overload on one side, and you finish on the other where the opponent is now underloaded. However, when our entire attacking band shifts over to one side, we have to have a threat on the other. Else, the opponent can simply commit one more player than we have in that zone and squeeze, safe in the knowledge that no one is taking advantage. In theory, you want Elderson Echiejile pushing up into that area and holding the width on the left. The benefit of that goes beyond even attacks: once the ball is lost it, his presence in that advances area makes it impossible for the opponent to escape an immediate press by simply switching the ball to the far side. As it is, our attacking play is quite blatantly unbalanced, and you can be sure whoever comes out of the hat for us at the World Cup will have noticed. |

Taliban: I hope you trying to mock some players due to your limited knowledge about their abilities? However, I will ask some few questions. Is Vincent Enyeama a wack player? Who is most consistent goalkeeper in Europe this season? If none don't you think Dele Aiyenugba deserves a call? Is Dele Alampasu bad? In defence, you included only 6 defenders instead of 8. Now add Leon Balogun and Troost to the defence. We still have to remove Moses Odubanjo and Sheyi Ojo because the former may not be fit prior to the WC while the later is not a defender. Are you not aware? Their talents is never in question. Tiago Iloriand Dominic Ihorfa have not been approached but if they pledged to play for us na na, they will surely make my team. Hence, my DF will be Leon Balogun Troost Ekong Tyrone Ebuehi Elderson Echiejile Brian Idowu Ola Aina Tiago Ilori Next is the Midfield Just remove Hope Akpan, Jude Aneke and Ryan Sanusi for Ndidi, Ogu and Onazi and we have a compact midfield. Pls, take note that I still rate Jude Aneke highly but his club his a big disadvantage. MF Mikel Obi Joel Obi Onazi ogenyi Wilfred Ndidi Josh Onomah John Ogu AT Obafemi Martins Odion Ighalo Alex Iwobi kelechi Iheanacho Sone Aluko Victor Moses Simon Moses That is just how I want the team. |

Mujtahida: Many went for my jugular when I questioned the inclusion of Simon in our first eleven. Don't u think that my assertion that, that dude isn't what we need on that left wing has been justified? He and Musa ain't cerebral, hence they are not imposing and effective. Play a tricky, skillful, nimble footed Onyekuru on that LW to see the difference. Iwobi won't be bad there but I would rather Iwobi played as an AM. Simon is a one-trick punny unlike Onyekuru that has an avalenche of guiles in his offing and he (onyekuru) is a modern winger, in that he always cuts in to good effect unlike that stop-and-run, outdated winger that mans our left wing. I no even wan talk about Musa bkus presently he ain't any better than Simon. The solution to our problem is right under our nose dude |

Joebie:Take note bro, Iheanacho playing from the right flank is actually the appropriate position for him, as he's left footed. A left footed winger plays from the right while a right footed winger plays from the left. But for Fullbacks and Wingbacks the reverse is appropriately the case. |

Are we going to say he doesn't trust nacho, ighalo , kayode And others... Just believe he's looking for best legs incase of loss of match fitness |

forgiveness: Wonderful and good job. Yes Seyi isn't a defender but your only brother here has suggested we try him at Left back. Afterall Ashley Young and Valencia were forward players turned defenders. Where is the mercurial Raheem Lawal in your team, what about Kayode as well. If Echejile playing in Turkey can make the team why not Aneke and you completely bewildered me by leaving out one of the best Nigeria born midfielders in recent times, Ryan Sanusi. Why is Musa competing with Ajagun?? Ajagun that plays regularly for Musa, Musa who is a forward and hasn't even featured for ordinary Leicester in a while, haba. You didn't include Iorfa too, it won't take long to get him to switch for Nigeria. |

ChrisKels:But both Moses and Musa play predominantly on the right for us not left. Victor Moses plays as a LWF not Moses or Musa even though they switch wings but Vicmo is our designated LWF. |

Taliban: I have already modified my post. My friend, if I want Raheem Lawal then Jonh Ogu must go out because I know Raheem Lawal is more versatile than him. And if I want Kayode then Martins must go out but I think Martins is better than him. If I want Agajun then Sone Aluko must drop but Sone Aluko is a better quality than him. However, my point is, a coach must have ready made options to replace injured players. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Mujtahida: 9:37pm On Nov 21, 2017 |
soetanoreoluwa:If I know your strength lies in your right leg and I clip it what would you do? Take note that in France 98 Denmark studied us and realised that our strength is in the wings. They shut down Finidi on the right and Garba Lawal on the left and it was game over- our wings were clipped. Mind you we had built our attack around wing play right from the days of Westerhof. So note that our strength can be our undoing. 1 Like |
