Expect these 2 new products from International Breweries in 2018

Managing Director, International Breweries Plc, Anabelle Degroot
The Managing Director (MD) of International Breweries Plc Anabelle Degroot yesterday had a press briefing with business editors of which Nairametrics attended. The MD designate discussed a wide variety of plans including the coming on stream of their Shagamu brewery, merger updates and new products

Shagamu Brewery

The Shagamu brewery which cost $250 million is expected to come on stream by the second quarter of 2018. The brewery is one of the company’s biggest in Africa, and was built in order to address a supply constraint issue that had limited sales of the company’s products to areas close to existing plants. The brewery is expected to produce a wide range of products including popular brands Hero and Trophy beer. The facility is AB Inbev’s fourth brewery in Nigeria.

Merger update

The enlarged entity is expected to be listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) by the end of 2017. The company’s current expansion plans will however lead to limited rationalization of jobs post merger. International Breweries will also undertake a name change next year to reflect the interest of the combined entities.

New products

The company also intends to introduce new products next year including Budweiser and Eagle beer.

Local content

About 70% of the company’s raw materials such as cassava, millet and sorghum as well as packaging materials are sourced locally.

Operational update

In response to a question posed by Nairametrics about a spike in bad debts. Degroof stated that International Breweries had taken more prudent provisions in line with standards set by parent company AB Inbev.

Competition

Degroot sounded confident about handling the competition, stating We know our competition.

International Breweries is a subsidiary of AB Inbev the world’s largest brewer. AB Inbev has over 500 beer brands sold in over 150 countries including popular brands Stella Artois and Budweiser, and employs over 200,000 people. The company was listed on the NSE in 1995.

I was wondering how international Breweries which was below 20 early this year now selling above 50, this just clarified things. Anyways, simply means Nigerian Breweries will hv to raise their game, and Guinness too (but Guinness so far has found strength with the spirit segment and might keep it that way).

@NoMoney

I will only pick one example because I haven't got much time for unproductive discussion.
You have emphasized a PE of 2: do you know that C/I leasin is one of the coy (others are NEM, ETERNA) on nse whose year end is always lower than Q3 (except 2016). Do you think it is impossible for the year end PE to sudden turn 6 at the present price? So, doesn't look reliable to me.
I was a regular follower of C/I leasin some years back when I thought there was hidden value behind the company but for every low PE that remains low for a long time, there is usually a reason.

I have already wished you best of luck. For those who have stayed long in nse, one of the most powerful tool is GUT-feelings. You cannot analyse this grin

Kindly explain how you came about the conclusion that I am suffering from confirmation bias.

Confirmation being that you look from evidences that support or confirms your belief while you ignore evidences that contradict your belief.

Given the recent profit profile of the company what do you think a reasonable valuation will be. Is a PE of 2 too high, too low or just right?

Oando took on debt to buy an asset assuming the cash flow from the asset will remain at historical levels without hedging the price of oil for the duration of the loan. They ran into problems when the price of oil dropped and the cash flow was insufficient to meet loan repayments. C&I Leasing on the other hand took loans to buy ship and locked in long term contracts for the duration of the loans thus hedging the cash flow from these assets. They consequently had their best two year ever profit wise during a recession. Spot the difference between Oando and C&I Leasing?

Please note that I didn't come online to promote the stock I just intervened to correct the bashing of the stock.

On your assertion that there is a 10% probability that I might right, which of my comment are you referring to and why such a low probability

1.C&I Leasing intends to raise N25b selling 2.6 billion shares?
2.C&I Leasing is cheap at the moment and the fundamental supports its share price getting to N3
3.C&I Leasing debt profile is sustainable given their cashflow

I am open to constructive evidence backed by facts and I will really appreciate it if you could assist in correcting any bias I might have.

Kindly note in all my submission how I attempt to attend to every issue raised instead of dismissing arguments with sweeping statements. I will appreciate similar responses.

Being unable to repay convertible loan stock 2 years after maturity that will in share reconstruction when the share price just barely recovered from coma is not a good sign. Share reconstruction in this case implies that the shareholders are indirectly paying the loan which the coy ought to have paid. There is something amiss that we are not aware of and the prospect of the share price reversing back to coma is high after reconstruction even if the value will be adjusted on NSE considering:

1. There is going to be a combination of share allotment and cash payment to abraaj which will dilute the shareholding of shareholders and take away a significant part of the profit declared (and possibly reduce reserve/retained earnings) thus affecting retained earnings and dividend payment.
2. They declared a good result in 2016 but failed to pay dividend on the grounds of this abraaj loan. Investors still held on to their shares cos the interim dividend promised which they failed to pay cos of this same loan. With the issue of this new shares and cash payment there will likely be a liquidity squeeze on the coy thus will be unable to pay dividend (or resonable dividend as expected) in addition to a less unattractive balance sheet.
3. The loans that the have lined up for collection need to financed hence profit and retained earnings will be affected.

Further dumping dumping of shares may follow thus SP crash.

Also, there will be an urgent need to raise cash to increase liquidity hence the need for more loan or right issue or public offer. Should they consider right issue then the coy automatically becomes abraaj cos of their percentage share holding. Dont forget the free float policy of NSE which affected ashaka cement.

However, the company could become highly profitable afterwards with sound management as nothing is impossible. But I dont see it happening anytime soon. Investors will have to be very very patient hence I see it okay for very long term investors.

Trading altcoins has not been a fruitful venture for me.
I want to also ask that we have a crypto version of NSEMPA so we don't derail this forum.

So, you want post recession crash prices? Then create another recession, in order to have your desired prices or or pray for total crash of the Nigerian economy as we had, three years ago; otherwise, these current prices will continue to advance. As a matter of fact, Nigerians confidence in NSEM is just coming back, just as traders are just returning to the market. That is why there has not been bear since October till now. Goodluck.
