Any First Class grad that is worth the certificate should not struggle for job. First Class will not earn you automatic job. If you cannot pass job test, your FC wont help you. The likes of Odufuwa should tell us what they have done with their test invites. 5 Likes 1 Share |

well first class is not a yardstick to success because having a first class is just a matter of memory. the aspect of the brain that control logic is and reasoning is very different from memory (to recall what you have read or seen). 4 Likes |

I've said it before "EDUCATION IS NOT THE KEY TO SUCCESS ". Get first, 2nd or 3rd class no guarantee say u go dey successful for naija. Why waste 4years in school when you can pick up something better and develop yourself in it. Though it's good to be educated but that can happen after learning a skill or you do both together. If school no favour you now drop out and develop yourself on something better. Some go say Na bad advice No Suffer mama and Papa finish and Leta come with that paper say make them carry u meet Pastor make Dem conduct Job deliverance for u. Create a goal and work towards it. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

oyb: Almost automatically first class grads get shortlisted for job test. The problem is, some of these FCs flunk the test, but they will not talk about that part. The best your grade gets you is shortlisting for job tests. Your FC wont earn you automatic job. 11 Likes 3 Shares |

I graduated with a third class ( not proud of it tho) but I engaged in politics and creative media while in school currently I'm serving and by God's grace I got a job and already working with as Media Assistant to a billionaire till date he's never asked me what I graduated with I doubt if he remembers the school I finished from. It's all about value added services and God's grace. I would still do a story . May God help us all. 10 Likes |

Afriifa:Tell all of them I'm sorry,We know how to party. @OP Well what do you expect us to do after struggling hard to achieve 1st class? Yea it is important to learn a skill and be more relevant in the job market but this kind of posts aren't motivating fresher's,it's killing their zeal towards academic success. I have heard of first class graduates that got automatic employment either in the school itself or outside of it.With this post of yours, you are only making inexperienced fresher's believe that they can actually succeed in life without good grades. This isn't right. I'm not saying good grades determine employability. But whatever worth doing,is worth doing well. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Results doesn't mean everything, if u r not competitive nd creative, certificate won't bring profit to a company or an organization The fact dat graduates out-number job opportunity is also a reason 4 mass unemployment . I will advise students to start creativity nd entrepreneurship b4 graduation. Course there no guarantee of a job 1 Like

I can understand that the OP is trying encourage First class graduates to acquire more skills, etc. However, I would like to disagree with his statement that the number of First Class graduates have now exceeded that of Second Class Uppers. As a First Class graduate, he should know that such statements cannot be made without facts. It is quite unfortunate that many graduates, first class inclusive, can't find jobs these days. Nevertheless, it would be wrong to belittle the achievement of a First Class graduate just because of temporary unemployment. They faced challenges just like others in school and came out tops. If given the chance of employment, there is a strong possibility that their contributions might surpass that of others. First Class graduates are unique people. I wish I was one. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Jarus: Yeah, forgot to add that part. Personally I would be seriously disappointed in any first class grade unable to get an entry level job. If you have the focus to get a first, then test and interview prep should be a breeze. employers love first class grads 6 Likes |

Yet another foolish thread filled with ignorance of how things work. Firstly, there is no law that stipulates first class graduates to be awarded humongous sums of money because they performed well academically. Additionally, first class graduates didn't aim for a first because they desire to be awarded 25 million naira. How many times will it be drummed into your head that private firms sponsor the likes of BBA, MBGN, EPL etc? And as such, they reserve the rights to award any amount of money to winners? Awarding monies is strictly at the discretion of the awarding body not because you had a first. Secondly, it takes determination, hard work and perseverance to get a first class whatever the discipline, wherever the school and irrespective of one's background. It's these characteristics that firms look out for. How do you want a recruiter to judge when s/he doesn't know you from Adam? Yes, value addition is important and this cuts across all disciplines, individuals and grades not only first class grads. 10 Likes 1 Share |
