Wow, congrats bro. So happy for you.
For the petroleum engineering, that's the only admission I have in UK, just applied to Imperial just to fulfill righteousness, never expected ptdf will be transparent and the list came out too late to start looking for admission

Imperial is tight, my issue is I wish you were in their Chemical Engineering program.

I understand your predicament though, I was just stubborn in my heart knowing I won't compromise and then a previous scholar assured me that they would still bend and let us have the "countries" we desire.

I have learnt alot about the scholarship body having been to their Towers recently and I just realized they played some of you guys who went early - unnecessarily and unfairly I must add.

Let me not derail the thread. I am sure you would still aim for that PhD in the US, and I bet you that Imperial degree on your resumé will help even if it may be unrelated to your PhD options (I presume you would still shoot for your first love - Chemical Engineering).

Cheers.

arTiculaTe01,

I believe I recognize the original post but the moniker not so much. I could barely make out your post perfectly but I think I understand what you are driving at.

Your GPA is your asset, coupled with your now MBA degree, and 5+ years of work experience. Don't downplay these aspects as the GRE - as we have said ad nauseam - is just one aspect.

Personally, you are selling yourself a bit short. You should combine Direct PhD apps with some MS apps. You really could get funded. I wonder why you are not as optimistic for yourself as I am for you.

And yes, Texas is good and reasonably cheap to live in but I would advice you to look for departments in various schools that have your program/interest, across the US. Don't settle for just Texas.

Have you looked at Texas Tech in Lubbock? Anyways, UTD is also a good school. And if you are keen on your Telecommunications research area, restrict your search to it. See, the thing about Computer Science is, in the US, it is MIGHTY competitive.

Look at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill as well and maybe Arlington. University of North Texas too. Since you are big on Texas.

I know you alluded to TAMUK in your post but they won't fully fund you perhaps except for a direct PhD. I expect you to have made enquiries by now about it. I know for certain that for M.S, perhaps you would get some partial funding in form of instate tuitions but if you need strong financial aid, the direct PhD might be your best bet.

Good luck.

Morning sir.
I have a draft as well for a Norwegian school. I could send it to you for perusal and evaluation if you don't mind.
However,I also second your request. I intend to write other ones for US schools. I trust that you can be a lamb and send the samples you get to me (winks).
Merci.
Best wishes.

Morning Sir !

I am currently in NYSC orientation camp. I will send it as soon as I get out.

I have also sent you a pm. Reply so we can talk more.

What advice can you give a prospective student like me who is just preparing for GRE. Is it possible to get a fully funded MSc in Mathematics with a CGPA of 4.24 of 5.0?

Yes it is. Very very very possible. Just do very well in the Q section of the GRE.

Consider El Paso as a safe school. Word is, they funded every maths student that was accepted.

Well done the gurus in the house. Am a medical doctor hoping to go for masters or PhD in any health related courses in America or Australia and also hoping to get scholarship. I will appreciate it if you could help with suggestion on how to go about it and recommend some schools. I have started reading for my GRE . Going to write it in February. Thank you for the anticipated reply.

Quick Question ,even if it sounds ingenious
Is it preferable to start registration/application with a school before sending in your GRE scores or Its Vice-versa?

It does not matter, at all. Just have the official reports sent in when the school asks for it. They usually ask for this when they have offered you a place.

Hello folks.
I appreciate everyone on this forum. Y'all are doing wonderful.
Please, I need y'all to help me on this.

Profile
Undergrad: 3.26/4.0 (WES- unofficial)
GRE: Dec/Jan
TOEFL: Jan
Course: Agricultural Extension and Communication Technology.

I intend to apply to Penn state University for the fall 2018 for an MSc in Agriculture and Extension education.

Now, to my enquiries.

Can I possibly get full funding with that CGPA?

Which other schools(full funding) are safe for me to apply to? (
I am open to other courses related to Agriculture and rural development)

Many thanks.

Your question should be; can I get fully funded with that PROFILE?

Your GPA is just one aspect. So work on the others. Say you get 340 in the GRE, Ofcourse it would be possible to get into Penn State fully funded.

As for other schools, you have enough time from now to January to use Google, check out schools and depts. Requirements etc. It is when you are done with that aspect that people can help you by telling you which may be too ambitious, safe, a deadend and the possible GRE cutoffs (if not clearly delineated on the website of the school).

It is research you want to do in the US. Start showing you would be good at it in future.

Your quant is quite low for Finance. Apart from that, your profile is nice.

Thank you for the reply.
I clearly get the underlying messages as well.

However, I have actually researched about the schools in the US that offer the course.
I have Utah state university, Universityof Arkansas, Texas tech and a host of them. I got them pruned to just Penn state and Arkansas because they were the only ones that stated funding through graduate assistanship.
I didn't ask to be fed, but to be led.
I am a gentleman in this sphere, that was why I sought guidance from experienced ilks like you.

Best wishes.

No need to be defensive man, your questions were answered; Your GPA can work with the whole profile in tact. Sure, Penn State is not MIT so a wonderful GRE can make up for perceived deficiencies. Someone with a 2nd class lower got into UPenn fully-funded with a 328. And UPenn is bigger than Penn State.

As per GA, are you talking about M.S or PhD? Most schools rarely fund for M.S programs but for PhDs, sure. So it depends.

Penn State, will be tagged as ambitious until your GRE and other aspects of your profile are formed. Iowa is big on Agriculture and what not so you can check the schools over there.

Regards.

Perhaps, you were oblivious about it sir. Your offence was a classical suarez, subtle yet lethal. I had to play Vidic, considering the research time I put in it. Lol

Anyways, I now know that acing the GRE is a very major determinant here. Thanks for that.

And yes, Penn state and university of Arkansas have GAs for MSc students.

Going by your assertion that most schools rarely fund MSc, do you think a great GRE score can get me a Phd?

Best wishes.

Depends on the school. So you may need to check the requirements of your school. Some schools will evaluate the application with just uploaded versions but others will insist they must receive the official ones to deem your app complete.
