paulavon: That on its own is not a red flag. Apart from your interview, things you fill in your DS-160, your 'family record', composure (to determine if you're lying or not) and the VO factor play a big role in determining whether you get a visa or not. 1 Like |

k199192: Do not be quick to judge. I know Mekurexx personally. Exchange of Dollar/Naira between people who have both is a common and easy way of sending money back home or receiving money from home now, especially due to the forex restriction/ban placed on Naira. For example, some students have Naira in their account from their parents but are unable to withdraw it here due to low withdrawal limits and what they do is find someone, preferably here in the US, who has Dollars to sell, say $2000, then they agree at an exchange rate and exchange currencies (the student with Naira transfers the Naira amount into the Dollar seller's Naira account, and the Dollar seller gives/pays in the Dollars into the student's US account). This is cost-effective and a preferred way by many as there are no transaction fees (that you get with money gram or western union) involved. I understand the Nigerian mentality and having trust issues but do not be in a hurry to judge. You probably will find yourself needing to buy or sell dollars this same way after you arrive. Justwise, if you can please unhide Mekurrex's post. I know him very well, down to his family. He is a good person. 15 Likes |

jerrypeacelinks: I think you really answered your questions correctly, for the most part. I did notice, though, that the F1 student visa questions have become quite tougher than they were during my time. Back then, if you answered the basic questions (as we used to analyze them back in 2013 and 2014) correctly you would probably be approved. Another trend I sometimes notice is some actually serious students are denied the first time and approved the second time. It is as if they know that if denied, most likely you would reapply again, which is extra bucks for the embassy. N64,000 per interview, multiplied by the thousands of people that go to the embassy 5 days a week. The amount of money that the US embassy generates from Nigeria alone every year would most likely exceed billions of Dollars, how much more from all their embassies worldwide. From an economic view, this is money making business for the US embassy. Anyway, you just have to try again. Sometimes you could be very much prepared and be a genuine student but meet the wrong visa officer. Cheer up and give it a second try. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

mcabidoh:LOL! Sorry for your denial. The VO is right to doubt your ability to return to that company, so to speak. It seems that he or she knew exactly what is going on there. The gospel truth is you can't return to that organization. Not even after your studies. That is why when you said yes, he or she went ahead to ask are you guaranteed this? The place sucks because some Nigerians messed it up. You need to think about something unique to say apart from this company. 2 Likes |

Niv25: Nigerian banks wont charge you the official rate with your Naira acct. Na black market. To be sure, buy sth online with $ as the currency and see the exchange rate. |

You almost got your visa until that leave of absense talk. No Chinese firm would do that..Try and refire but this time avoid those coming back to resume in Huawei talk..Good luck.. mcabidoh: |

biikeys: I think my denial was either the VO factor or in my response to her question, WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS COURSE. The only question I may say I didn't answer well is where she asked WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS COURSE? I replied by telling her I will need to complete 30 credit units and even mentioned some of the core courses I was to take. That's the place I am very very sure I may be confused about the answer. As for composure, I was a 1001% composed and a nairalander here who got her visa today can attest to that fact. She too is confused as I got a denial today. I am most confused even. |

jerrypeacelinks: This thing can be very unpredictable .... you can do all the right things and a VO will say no . Dont give up. Refire and go back. But still review your interview today and say how could i have done it better and go back. See if your i20 can be amended and resent. If time is too short then ok |

good day family... I had my visa interview today. Like someone rightly pointed, its getting tougher by the day .. But this is not to create panic. I just believe all will end well. In my own case, i just believe it was God's doing. Not to bore you so much, I was interviewed by a guy in Window 6here goes my transcript; V.O: good morning Me: Good Morning, how are you doing? V.O: Fine thank you (in my mind, this is going to turn out good)... Pass me your passport and I-20 please Me: passes V.O.: Why are you going to TAMUK? Me: For my Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering V.O.: How many schools did you apply to? Me: 3, Tamuk. Sdsm&t and TTU V.O.: So why Tamuk? Me: Tamuk offers excellent education to its student through high quality teaching, research and scholarly activities. It has facility for work in Computer aided engineering design and computational fluid dynamics. I am keen on working with Dr. Johnbull. I contacted him and he was impressed with my undergraduate result and test scores(if only i know i hyped myself in his eyes at this point ) . I continued, We will be working on a collaborative project with UofW to model their steam generator using ansys fluent or open foam Now this is where the real driling started... Baba was on his computer for like 2minutes or so, apparently he was checking online for questions to ask me on fluid dynamics since i claimed i was a badass. i have read so many transcripts here on NL, i havent seen something like that before, the most they do is ask one technical question in your field. Then the bombshell followed... V.O: Tell me about di-kinikan kinikan of fluid mechanics (i swear i never hear am before, in my mind, i was like village people finally followed me to this place) Me: What? V.O: Repeated question again ( i still couldn't make sense of what the word means or how to link it with fluid mechanics... My own don be, i asked what again) Then he repeated the question for the 3rd time using the same word and then he was like "or how is it pronounced".. that was when i knew baba just checked something randomly, i dont know where the courage came from, i just started saying this unplanned rubbish confidently and even said it has application in production industry like coca cola V.o: (obviously wasnt impressed by my answer, i could read that) then he asked for something something on turbulent flow Me: Confidently, Turbulent flow is a flow where reynolds no is >3000. where you have layers of fluid interwoven into each other. It has application in oil production and undesirable in some circumstances, as a result, you see flow meters and other measuring devices on line (trust me, I dont have an idea of either the question or how the answer i was giving relates with it) V.O.: Explain Bernoulli's principle Me.: (Ope ooo, finally i can breathe) Bernoulli principle is basically the law of conservation of energy, the cumulative energy at one end of a flow is equal to the other end, so when you vary a parameter like diameter, you will expect a change in pressure. i gave him an instance of a venturi meter TBC 5 Likes |
