vcole: Thanks madam vcole, I just got off the phone with the serviceontario people and she told me pretty much what you outlined above. I can only exchange a 2+ years licence (with eye test). Under 2 year, they'll exchange it for a G2 licence and upon successful completion of a G2 test I get a full licence. Sucks to be me right now. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

If you can afford it, I'll advise you do a short landing... Considering your Medicals would expire soon. Santino1: |

Santino1: It was. He is saying you can land and then return when you have completed the number of required months so that your medical doesn't expire and you would have the required number of months for the driver's license. |

XX01: Hi XX01 and boldinc, Thanks. When I spoke to the lady, she made me realise that the 60 days starts counting the day I become a PR (i.e my first landing). Thus, short landing won't work. Thanks all the same. |

Hello Landed seniors, My question is with regards to schooling for kids in Canada. I understand that their elementary school calendar starts from 1st Sept to 30th June every year (based on Ontario education website), and Grade 1 is for 6year olds, but my son will only clock 6years a month plus after the resumption of the school session, that is Oct 22nd. Would they consider him for Grade 1 by that school session? or he will lose a year just because of a difference of one month. I'll appreciate your valid contribitions. Thanks. |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by A555: 6:23pm On Nov 28, 2017 |
Santino1: What they are saying is that you can come in before your medicals are past due. Stay for a month or so to get your PR card then return to Switzerland for a few months to ensure you have a full 2+ years before you return to Canada permanently and then swap your license for a local license. |

Virt: I stand corrected, if a child will not be exactly 6 years or over by the first day of the school year, he will actually be allowed to start in grade 1 provided he's 6 by December 31 that year.. Apparently the September cut off is not so strict in Ontario. I appreciate the experiences shared below. 8 Likes |

Santino1: Hello boss, I understand your plight but I think it all depends on you. At least, you will get a G2 license and that still puts you in close proximity in terms of wait period in getting the full license. I really do not see any reason in doing a short landing and then go back just because you want to your Swiss license to clock 24 months. If you have other things beside the license reason, then a short landing will be good. Else, it is better to land and face the wait squarely. PS: I no get any license oh, i just dey share opinion based on data gathered. 7 Likes |

Virt: He will be allowed to start grade 1. As long as he turns 6 before or on the 31st of December of same year. |

honey86:NO. You would provide a license number which will be used to pull your record. Its a no brainer. If you are confused with what I said about fake license, I was referring to the license I was holding before 2016 |

MysteryBud: I have not heard that WES accepts Statement of Result. The certificate remains your best bet. Make effort to obtain it if you can. Good luck. Just saying, but questions like this stand a better chance of getting answers quickly on the FSW/EE thread. |

Many who come to Canada as skilled workers are disappointed that there are no gold streets, no red carpet and no $200,000 per year job for them in Canada. Experience is, it takes time to find your place in Canada. Immigrants, new Canadians and long time Canadians are all in competition for positions. My advice is, be patient, work as smart and as hard as you can. People hire on qualification and experience, but they also hire on personal knowledge and relationships. That is true around the world - including Canada. It is not nepotism exactly, it is a safe way of hiring people when you must deal with thousands of resumes that may or may not be accurate or true. My advice is to take the best job you can find in your industry, and meet people with your specific specialization. After they know you and understand how you work opportunities will open up. Almost always it is at least two years, maybe five or more years before immigration is worth the move. Cost of beginning - anywhere - is high. You are making a life decision, not a quick trade in the stock market. Build a life in Canada. You will be very pleased with the results. Don’t make decisions for benefit in months or a year, or even two or five years. Make decisions to benefit you for life. culled from quora 34 Likes 2 Shares |
